I really hope all this paper talk of Mainoo and Garnacho being up for sale is rubbish. I think these are the players we should be keeping as we rebuild a young side. Always thought Garnacho worked hard and applied himself, he must be working in training too having played in our last two games.
1.) 13 Jan 2025 10:27:12
The mainoo story is 100 percent rubbish. Not sure on garnacho though. He could make way.
2.) 13 Jan 2025 11:41:41
Mainoo contract is until 2027 with a 1 year extension available to 2028. It'll be sorted this year, no rush. Just media BS.
3.) 13 Jan 2025 15:38:47
Plus, I am sure Kobbie and his agent are looking for a decent pay raise in the interim, which will no doubt be forthcoming if we can get rid of Rashford and Casemiro. He's not going to be held to £20k a week until 2027. Given his potential it would take upwards of £75m for the club to sell him.
4.) 14 Jan 2025 16:04:30
KM is signed til 2030.
25 Aug 2024 19:51:29
Is Rabiot still an option for us, if Mctominay is sold and Amrabat gone back, even Urgarte signs we could do with another in the midfield. High wages l assume but a free agent with lots of experience etc.
{Ed002's Note - Rabiot remains an option for clubs byt wages are an issue.}
1.) 25 Aug 2024 20:47:38
Than you.
2.) 26 Aug 2024 08:18:35
Rabiot and Ugarte would transform our midfield, but both seems impossible with Casemiro still on the books, and to a lesser extent Eriksen.
3.) 26 Aug 2024 18:55:07
They would indeed wazza. Not sure we would get both in every week though for me mainoo rabiot and ugarte would be the ideal midfield 3.
But that means no place for Bruno.
I'd also very much like to see a midfield of casimero ugarte and mainoo. But again it leaves no place for Bruno.
With maz there I think Bruno could play from the right and come off the wing and get involved.
We need a solid midfield we don't have one and won't have one as long as Bruno is part of the 3.
Midfielders need to be where they should be when they need to be there. Too often defensively Bruno is not.
I think mainoo will develop more like Bellingham in terms of much more attacking and when he plays further up he will get a lot of goals possibly more than Bruno.
It's just my opinion that this false 9 experiment is to cover bruno's defensive frailties (position wise not effort wise) .
Dream midfield 3 for me would be
Ugarte rabiot mainoo but very unlikely. Cas ugarte mainoo would be a very solid midfield 3 imo.
4.) 26 Aug 2024 21:32:36
The team will get no better whilst casemiro and onana are in the team.
5.) 26 Aug 2024 22:11:51
With mctom gone or going why does ugarte seem impossible?
I'd much rather keep casimero and sell mctom.
Financially it makes a lot more sense unless we get 40m for casimero which seems unlikely.
Casimero offers a lot more to the team for the season ahead than mctom also.
I'm sure ericksen will be off before the window closes too. Along with hannibal and sancho if we can get a loan sorted at worst. Getting a decent loan fee and continuing to his wages should get us out in a neutral cost situation.
I highly doubt juve who signed 2 winners last week will advertorial an obligation to buy, perhaps an option to buy is best we can hope for. He is entering his 4th season with us so his book value will have decreased substantially by the end of the season like casimero so a sale will be a lot easier next summer and a lot less of an impact on the books.
6.) 27 Aug 2024 08:34:14
if we can get sancho out, mc done and ugarte in, its a great window Imo. Anything else is cherry on top. if eriksen goes i can see us adding a midfielder late in the window. We need cover/ rest for mainoo ideally.
13 Aug 2024 21:56:36
Mended in UK to try and get the Urgarte deal over the line.
1.) 14 Aug 2024 06:19:11
Last night I read that there is a chance of Sancho-Ugarte swap, but United rates Sancho as a more expensive player. Seems funny to me! Perhaps just a negotiating tactic.
10 Aug 2024 19:59:16
Funny feeling well get Urgarte too?
1.) 10 Aug 2024 20:37:15
I'm quietly confident we will, if not him then at least one other maybe even two midfielders.
2.) 10 Aug 2024 21:36:20
Ugarte McT please.
3.) 10 Aug 2024 22:40:02
I think could be a crazy few weeks until the windows shuts. Once MDL and NM are in and AWB leaves we will have a net spend of around £95 mill.
Hopefully we can find suitors for Lindelof, Hannibal, Sancho to raise £50 to £60 mill. Bonus if we can move McTominay and Casemiro but don't see those happening personally.
If we can raise that then hopefully cover a Ugarte type move, then if we can move one of Cas or McT, if not both, go for Rabiot too. I get I'm living in dreamland but what a window that would be!
4.) 11 Aug 2024 08:49:47
Ugarte or dejong (i know completely different)? I think if we going to dominate (try to) the ball the dejong all day. Both be nice.
5.) 11 Aug 2024 09:05:08
Don’t see why we’d let McT go unless he wants to leave to be a starter somewhere else.
Hannibal, Lindelof/ Maguire and Sancho all ahead of him to ship out for fees first.
6.) 11 Aug 2024 11:47:54
I think we will be working on outgoings mostly now till window closes, sales or loans. Even if we add a cm, can't see us selling mc or cas. Pellistri, Hanibal, Eriksen and lindelof most likely sales.
7.) 11 Aug 2024 18:22:19
Eric79, just tell me what McT brings to the team and the play of the team? Nothing, pure nothing. He is a midfielder and can't pass, can't defend, can't attack. Just some kind of weird energy which often leads him to a foul or he's just easily turned in 1vs1 situations leaving open spaces for the other team.
8.) 11 Aug 2024 18:57:07
Ziko, utter tripe. he may not be sexy, he may not be exciting, but your description is ridiculous. He bleeds United, always gives 110% and has scored some very importent goals. I think he would be a great squad player but I understand if he leaves
Jeez, with fans like you.
9.) 11 Aug 2024 18:57:28
7 goals in 32 appearances, often as a sub and often late winners. He brings grit, determination and great attitude, and immense pride for the shirt as one of our home grown.
Far more than a player like Sancho has ever shown.
Not once have I said he should be a starter, but he’s the epitome of the perfect squad player.
10.) 12 Aug 2024 07:32:22
But he is bang average, in every other area. He played 32 minutes on Saturday, made 2 tackles and 2 passes. Collyer made 3 tackles and 13 out 14 successful passes. It’s time McT moved on, he has and never will be good enough to play for Utd.
11.) 12 Aug 2024 07:55:34
People get carried away slating McTominay. He's really versatile, understands his role and follows the managers instructions.
Only a couple of months ago he started the FA Cup final.
I imagine he maintains an intensity in training which helps set a good example and raise standards. He has done plenty of tough post match interviews. A really good pro, and an academy product.
If he wants to leave to fulfill personal ambitions, I would wish him well; but I'm certainly not ushering him out the club.
As Eddie Howe recently pointed out, PSR rules may have good intentions, but they also make it beneficial for clubs to sell their homegrown talents - which can't be right and needs looking at.
12.) 12 Aug 2024 08:26:04
Not slating anyone at all. From what I see above, the reasons why McT be at the club are - academy graduate, good professional, scored important goals (which are 2). None of you pointed anything about playing in midfield and doing things as a midfielder. City have Foden, Kovacic, Nunes, Bernardo, Rodri, KDB in midfield and we are trying to catch them with McT? AJH fans like me want United back on top, fans like you want United to play with McT, Hannibal, just because they give 110%. I'll give 200%, but that doesn't mean I'm good enough to play for United.
13.) 12 Aug 2024 11:12:23
If you want to be challenging for titles then MCtominay should be nothing more than a squad player.
14.) 12 Aug 2024 12:13:35
McTominay isn't a bad player, he's actually a pretty good player.
He's a hard working, dedicated professional. He has a great attitude and is a leader both on and off the pitch. He also has a knack of scoring important goals, which is a trait many of the best players don't have. Erling Haaland for example is probably one of the most prolific strikers in the world right now, but I think I'm right in saying he's never scored at Wembley, in a semi-final or final. That doesn't mean McTominay is a better player, but he has the mentality and ability to step up and make a difference when needed in those vital moments in big games.
He's versatile and capable of playing in multiple roles in midfield, as a CB or as a striker.
If you described the perfect squad player you'd be describing McTominay. I'd be more than happy to see him stick around next season and even beyond as an option off the bench. I think most fans would be.
He lacks the quality and specialism to play a specific role as a starter for a club challenging towards the top of the table.
Ultimately it comes down to what he wants, he'd be a starter at any mid-table upto Europa league level EPL club, and he's at an age where he probably wants to play regular football. While I can understand the draw of wanting to stay at United (his boyhood club) even as a squad player. He'd probably accept a lesser role at United that he just wouldn't accept elsewhere.
If he wants to leave then the club should try and find a solution. If he wants to stay, then we keep a good squad option.
15.) 12 Aug 2024 14:07:24
Shappy, still not convinced he's even a squad player. Nothing comes from him, he's like Nicky Butt. If you need a player, just to replace someone in a cup game vs Coventry (:D I know), then Ok. But if you need him to replace an injured player, like Mainoo vs Lpool, City etc. Well, I don't trust him at all.
16.) 12 Aug 2024 17:06:48
Butt was a really good player. To compare him to mctom tells me you don't know what your talking about. Totally different type of player.
Did butt not play instead of keane in 99 cl final.
17.) 12 Aug 2024 17:20:07
Ajh I'm sure rashford or Bruno would say 'jeez with fans like you' after the slating you give them. Or is that different?
18.) 12 Aug 2024 21:56:56
So Butt starting instead of Keane is your reason? Butt (even Fred was better than him) was an average player in a good team, on the other hand McT is an average player in a not so good team. And I've seen worse players starting a CL finals, so that's not a very good evidence for your point. Saying "Butt was a really good player" proves that YOU don't know what you're talking about.
19.) 12 Aug 2024 23:57:04
Ken is totally right. Butt was very good at doing his job, Scholes and Keane both rated him highly, as did Pele in the 2002 world Cup. He wasn't the sexiest player in the United midfield but he did his job.
Kante wasn't the sexiest player but without him Leicester and Chelsea don't win the league and France don't win the world Cup.
The Messi Xavi Iniesta Barcelona team don't win anything like they did tmwithiut Busquets.
20.) 13 Aug 2024 00:03:15
Clicked send too early. I thinkbits you who hasn't got a clue here, not Ken. Butt did all the hard, non glory nob sext stuff very well and you don't win anything without having a number of them.
Butt played within himself to do his job because that's what the team needed. Buttbplaying alongside Mainoo right now would make a massive difference to this team.
21.) 13 Aug 2024 13:24:07
Ziko were you born in 87? That might explain why you have no clue how good butt was.
A very good player with Multiple titles intl caps and a very good career.
Played a role nothing similar to mctom.

There comes a time when all the "l agree" from Ruben will need to change. Accepting we are bad, accepting lack of effort, constant mistakes at the back etc. As the manager you are never going to get everything you want when it comes to players in or out, but there are some things you should be doing as manager, attitude and culture on the pitch is definitely one. While l understand he is looking for the right players for his system the only way to change attitude and culture is through the manager. I still see the same old lazy place, lack of intensity. If a player isn't working, drop him send the message play the kids, set standards, that is part of being the manager. I just don't want to hear the same answers next season, if he doesn't get 7 -8 new players because that won't happen, he might get 3 or 4 in depending on the Europa result. Worrying times ahead this is such a huge summer for the club.
1.) 12 May 2025 13:20:03
Has he not done that though with Rashford? Did ETH not do this with Sancho? People cry about a manager being tough and changing the culture and attitude of the team and players but when a manager does do it people are very quick to say they're being harsh on the player!
2.) 12 May 2025 14:54:25
Ports, he has told us and them that they are the worst squad in history. They believed it, because since then, they've gone on to be the worse. All under his watch too.
3.) 12 May 2025 15:38:04
He isn’t wrong this is the worst man united team and it’s about time someone had the balls to say it about this team, they can have a performance once every so often then they go back to not giving a crap when it suits them.
Remember a few years ago the big banner in the crowd “play like you care”
The majority of these players just don’t give a crap, they have even stopped coming out with there “sorry tweets” and sorry interviews that they use to do all the time.
Some players just feel sorry for themselves can’t take any criticism and whinge about it.
There is about 5 maybe 6 players in the entire squad that you would keep and that’s being generous. The rest you wouldn’t care if they left
That is how bad this team is.
4.) 12 May 2025 15:45:52
And ETH fiercely defended his team and what they were doing and everyone said he was deluded so as I said, fans want one thing and moan when it’s delivered.
5.) 12 May 2025 16:13:26
What's been delivered though? A 16th place?
6.) 12 May 2025 16:43:05
So what is it that you want Angelred? Call out the team? Praise the team? Discipline players? Allow them more freedom? You’ve got the call from Jim, you’re taking the team next season, how are you approaching this group of players?!
7.) 12 May 2025 17:28:05
Well one thing's for sure. I'm not calling them all out telling them that they are the worst squad in United's history ? a) when has that EVER worked to the benefit of the team b) it definitely hasn't worked here. We've gone on a terrible run!
As to how I'd go about it, I have no idea. i'd guess I'd have to ride out the storm, keep them onside until the inevitable clear out comes. Do the best to see how out the premier league year and get to the summer.
What he has done is show no compromise to his set up, call out the squad as the worst in history and then said they can find someone else if they don't back him. All from 6 league wins in 25 games and sitting in 16th position in the league, haven't even hit 40 points yet. I'm very glad that the 3 relegated sides have been so shocking this year.
8.) 12 May 2025 19:06:55
We have gone on a run we were likely to go on regardless.
9.) 12 May 2025 21:23:56
Jimbo, absolute nonsense.
10.) 12 May 2025 23:54:16
Angel,
He didn’t tell them they were the worst squad, easy to take a quote out of context though.
11.) 13 May 2025 01:23:30
What would have occurred differently angelred, if everything remained as before?
Who would you have installed differently to RA angelred, and how would that have changed matters?
I am sure, for all you ramblings of your discontent towards RA, the rest of us would greatly appreciate your advice on the above 2 points.
12.) 13 May 2025 06:28:08
Jimbo, you're asking a poster on here what I would have installed differently?
I don't think there is anyway that you can claim we would have went on this run regardless.
Ramblings? We are in 16th mate, 6 wins in 25, 3 of those wins were against relegated sides. They are not ramblings, they are facts. And my opinion is, that due to these facts, I sincerely worry that he is the right man to guide us through, what is turning out to be a very difficult time in our history.
GDS his quote
"We are being the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United. I know that you want headlines, but I'm saying that because we have to acknowledge that and to change that. Here you go, your headlines. "
Why is he even saying this?
13.) 13 May 2025 10:01:47
He wasn’t wrong tho.
People call for honestly then when it’s given slate the guy.
Ten hag spoke waffle even when it was obvious how poor we were and was slagged off on here for it constantly.
Don’t get the big deal of him saying that quote. To long have the club been babied and these players protected for poor performances after poor performances
Remember when fergie won the cup with Aberdeen and slagged them off in the first interview he did.
Some of the fan base are deluded to what the issue is at the club and the manager is far down that list.
14.) 13 May 2025 12:08:19
Bolger, when has it ever worked where a manager comes in a throws in a grenade like that.
I don't know if you manage or have managed people in your job, but what he did was wrong. Yes it was honest, yes I don't disagree but he has done it to the near detriment of his season.
You can not compare fergie on the pitch with Aberdeen. Fergie had built a winning reputation at the club, he sat a top of the tree and the players would climb over mountains for him.
11 May 2025 18:13:19
We can all talk about the need for CF and wing backs got the system. The whole spine of the team needs an upgrade starting at the back. Great sides are built on solid foundations for me that more a priority now.
1.) 11 May 2025 18:31:38
In reality most of the team needs replacing. the lack of effort again is what makes me angry. Ruben hadn't held back thou, the defending is so bad its laughable. But you're right, need a whole new spine. gk centre half ball winning midfielder and centre forward. but it's not happening with jim the rat in charge.
10 May 2025 19:43:51
Nobody knows what summer holds but we all hope firstly we win the Europa, which brings more money and Champions League. We can sell off the high earners and bring in a few first teamers So the big question what are your expectations for next season in the league? What ever happens we should be getting top six at least next season, it a big jump from 15th / 17th but RB will need to deliver next season.
1.) 10 May 2025 21:05:29
Life doesn't work like that Redcon. We have no devine right to be in the top six anymore. The middle of the league now stretches from 17 up to 4th, and it is very competitive.
If we try to win with kids, albeit very talented kids, we will struggle to get top 6.
We have the talented youth, we have the older gen in Casemiro, mcguire, bruno.
I assume Lindelof, eriksen leave (not renewed) . Assume no way back for rashford, Anthony and sancho.
So we need some good quality additions that have experience to lead the youngsters. A striker, a 10, a midfielder and a CB.
Just making names up, Gyokeres, Cunha. Ederson, Ineacho would be the type.
And then there is the keeper. AND I'm not convinced about our backup keeper.
This is before we start to talk about wingbacks as a special-ist role that would seriously help his system.
Until we see what the club does in the summer, we can't start setting targets. It is unlikely we will out spend the everyone above us. We cannot do everything in a single window. There will be improvement I'm sure, and I do feel the players are starting to visibly show improvement from the coaching.
2.) 10 May 2025 23:40:02
Given the other requirements in the squad, I feel Utd don't need another 10. Mount, Mainoo, Garnacho, Amad will be fine.
The priorities are GK, CF, CM, LWB and RWB.
3.) 11 May 2025 00:47:05
Mancman
I think Cunha is a club priority. Even THE priority. Garnacho needs competition to develop, not certain starting. Mainoo may be more of a CDM, who knows what they are thinking. Mount has not show yet that he can stay fit for 90 mins in a single game, let alone 2 games a week all season. Non of us have mentioned Zirkzee, who is a good option at 10, but a little slow. Fernandes can play there, but suspect he moves back into midfield more and more, where he has been improving and more I influential.
Amad a great player, and can also play in the wider role, where he looks great when we are pushing further forward.
Bottom line is that we have not created enough chances this year, so something must be done to change that. Probably a 9 and 10 incoming, hopefully more proven than potential.
4.) 11 May 2025 14:46:05
I think a creative player / 10 is essential. Just because Mount and Diallo are back it shouldn’t take away from the fact we’ve been desperate for such a player for years.
5.) 11 May 2025 17:16:02
Rashford, Sancho, Antony, Eriksen, Lindelof certain to leave.
I think Garnacho will join them.
What Amorim does with that income plus whatever is already set aside will determine next season and probably his entire United career. I’m actually a big fan of the manager and back him to get it right.
Cunha, Gyokeres (if we beat Spurs, Delap if we don’t), Cherki or Mbuemo and a central midfielder and we’ll be an entirely different proposition.
Onana
Mazraoui De Ligt Yoro
Amad Ugarte Bruno Dorgu
Mbuemo/ Cherki Cunha
Gyokeres/ Delap
Is what I expect our strongest team to be next season. I also expect us to be top eight minimum.
09 May 2025 14:51:01
Jesus, Maguire back to his mistake making best, surely he has to go. We really can't keep giving away goals. Yoro was very good again last night, you'd wonder could Yoro play in the centre of the three with Masouri and Heaven either side? Young l know but good speed back there.
1.) 09 May 2025 17:47:06
Not just him but Lindelof and Ugarte also woeful.
2.) 09 May 2025 18:31:46
I'm not a big Maguire fan but he's been very good recently. But hey, first chance we get let's slag him off.
3.) 09 May 2025 19:46:42
Just think back to when we bought Ugarte (who I don't think is the worst) . I personally was suggesting we bought Neves, but no, we paid the same amount for a player from the club who bought Neves, effectively facilitating their purchase of Neves.
They are not in the same league, but that is where we have fallen to, and I accept that.
Ugarte isn't that bad, it is just where we are.
But as per your original text, yes slabhead has to go, he is useless, and barring a couple of contributions, he always will be.
4.) 09 May 2025 20:55:31
Neves was never an option because he wanted to go to a club competing for trophies. He’s one of the best young midfield players in Europe, and that standard of player doesn’t want to join a club in our position.
5.) 09 May 2025 20:59:01
Jimbobred, you're making the assumption that Neves would've come here. I don't think anyone at the time disputed that Neves is the better player. Ugarte is a disruptor and we need players that can progress the ball. Hopefully we get that this summer and Ugarte's strengths will start to show more beside whomever that is.
Maguire is second choice central CB to de Ligt. It's not particularly close between them. I have to say that I admire Maguire's resilience. He's clearly not good enough but he'll just have one more season next year as a back up and that's fine by me. We have higher priority positions to fill this year than CB where imo we're well stocked with de Ligt, Yoro, Martinez, Heaven, Mazraoui, Shaw.
6.) 09 May 2025 23:18:30
Maguire was his usual self. Very good recently is a bit of a stretch in fairness. He had two reasonable games which were very much the exception.
7.) 09 May 2025 23:20:24
Ugarte is great, it is his first season but he has shown plenty already. He has that bit of south american spite that you need to win things. His passing can be very good when he moves the ball quickly and simply. Cassemiro also fell into the bruno trap of hitting overly ambitious passes - lately he has taken fewer touches and played simpler passes and he looks far far better.
8.) 10 May 2025 01:49:55
I am not making any assumptions. I have stated that is where we are at.
Last summer though, not many said Neves was as good as he is, on the contrary a few said he wouldn't be what we needed. Too small, lightweight etc etc. I could go on.
Again, I accept where we are at this point.
Hopefully we are scouting for the next Neves because is severely underrated.
9.) 10 May 2025 07:21:13
Great is a stretch too far, like stating his passing is good! Unbelievable.
06 May 2025 20:03:20
I'd keep both, they are only 20, give them a chance.
25 Aug 2024 20:47:38
Than you.
07 May 2025 20:31:03
Remember that goal, was he only 17 at the time? Yip Remember when it left his foot is was always going in.
22 Feb 2025 19:50:12
Saying it for years he is useless, if he wasn't English he would be critised way more. Biggest was of 80+ million ever.
19 Jan 2025 18:30:38
The second was his fault too.
04 Aug 2024 16:37:23
Maybe Zirkee playing off Hojlund up top.
