A lot of Matic rumours flying about this evening, saying he will be a united player by the end of the week.

No doubt he does what he says on the tin.

Tuor10

1.) 25 Jun 2017 22:51:07
He might even do what it says on the tin.

:)

2.) 25 Jun 2017 23:05:53
Squad depth is important. I'd take him and Fabinho, doesn't have to be an either or. Fabinho plays right back too. They can alternate in the holding role and can both come in for the big away games alongside Pogba.

3.) 25 Jun 2017 23:10:55
a couple of seasons ago yes there are far better players than him around put tfm there.

4.) 26 Jun 2017 00:03:15
If we're going to sign a destroyer, I'd rather one who has other aspects to his game. Whenever we played Chelsea they were always attackkng a man short because he provides nothing in the attacking half.

5.) 26 Jun 2017 07:37:37
I think Matic is a very good fit for us at the moment. Certainly for the season coming!

6.) 26 Jun 2017 09:52:18
If he's not good enough for Chelsea why should he be good enough for us.
He's a good solid player but that's all.
By the start of the season he will be 29 years old.
We shouldn't be looking at paying 20-30 million pounds for players who are nearly 30 years old.
Matic isn't going to get any better at 29,
He has top try and sign Fabinho.

7.) 26 Jun 2017 10:57:45
I don't get all this pessimism over potentially signing Matic.

Just two summers ago everyone was bemoaning us missing out on him, saying he was the best CDM in the league and one of the key players in Chelsea's title winning team.

Name me a better CDM in the EPL?

Fabinho looks a good player, but let's not forget he didn't make it at Real Madrid. Yeah he was young and he has made huge strides since. Ligue 1 isn't the strongest or most competitive league, there are no guarantees he would adapt to the EPL, either the style of football or the culture of our country.

Fabinho has the potential to be a better player than Matic, but how many players fail to live up to their potential?

People moaning about Matic's age need to calm down. He might not be a young whipper snapper anymore but he doesn't rely on pace, his position is one which relies more on experience and understanding of the game.

There is every chance he will be able to play at the highest level for at least another 3-4 years. We have the young TMF who is a couple of years away from really being able to challenge and make that position his own. Signing a younger player may block his progress, we could end up with him leaving and us having to resign him for an inflated fee in 4 or 5 years time ala Pogba.

Jose isn't likely to be here for more than another 2-3 years at most. So signing players who will be here longer than that could lead us to being in a situation where the new manager doesn't rate or feels the players he has at his disposal don't fit his ideas. Then we have to sell them off.

Schniederlin, Delay, Schweinsteiger anyone?

Matic knows Jose and knows what he wants. He also knows the EPL and has been successful here and is settled in this country. He also is unlikely to be pinning for a move to one of Barcelona or Real in a couple of years.

His signing makes more sense than any other.

Also can we stop with this he isn't good enough for Chelsea, he was a key part in them winning 2 titles in 3 years. Conte has changed Chelsea's style of play, Matic doesn't quite suit this new style and Conte wants to bring someone in he feels will suit that style better. Bakayoko at this time isn't a better player than Matic, he might be one day. He does however potentially suit what Conte wants better than Matic.

8.) 26 Jun 2017 11:14:12
Sorry Shappy I have to disagree with you.
Chelsea will demand at least 25-30 million pounds for Matic.
You hit the nail on the head when you said 2 summers ago. Matic isn't anywhere near that level now.
I think Fabinho has shown more than enough this season to suggest he is the better option for us.
Another thing that totally sets Fabinho apart from Matic is that he can actually score goals and create chances / assists.
He's the perfect all round player / age for us.
I'm not knocking Matic, he is a really good player but at 29 i can't help but feel his better years have already passed him by and like I said for that kind of price it just doesn't make any sense.

9.) 26 Jun 2017 11:41:02
Last season Matic had 7 assists and Fabinho 4. Certainly Fabinho has more goals but consider that nearly all his goals come from the fact he takes Monaco's penalties then he isn't more of a goal threat than Matic is open play.

Matic also plays more passes on average and is more successful with his passes. He also loses the ball less often. He also manages these stats in a far more competitive league.

The only arguement for Fabinho over Matic for me is longevity. But with TFM coming through, and the likelihood that Mourinho will be gone in three years and we will have a new manager with new ideas that longevity isn't necessarily a good thing. Especially when you consider he could well flop in the EPL. It seems a gamble not really worth taking.

10.) 26 Jun 2017 12:15:15
Is it completely out of the question that both could come in excuse the football manager lingo but

Matic - ball winner
fabinho - deep playmaker
pogba - roaming.

11.) 26 Jun 2017 12:19:49
dont usually care about the money most of the time, but Matic at 22-25 million ok, Matic at 35-39mill as some of the media are reporting is hard to swallow.

12.) 26 Jun 2017 13:04:59
Shappy I completely agree with everything you said.

Not to mention DM's usually hit their peak at the age Matic is now, we can't rule out Matic improving further as he matures and plays a more simple game as Carrick does now.

With TFM a couple of years away from being ready, him learning from Carrick and Matic makes perfect sense and he'd surely learn a lot from having them around.

I disagree wit the people saying we need BOTH Matic AND Fabinho. Perhaps you've forgotten about Ander Herrera who is better than both of them and deserves to be first name on the team sheet.

13.) 26 Jun 2017 14:10:05
Wazza we need more than 3 midfielders plus carrick or else we will see fellaini playing 30 games again next year and him playing that amount of games guarantees 4th at best as we have seen for last 4 years. We need more strength In depth.
Assuming we play 3 in nidfiels i think we should have 4 capable of starting every week without weakening Tyne side plus carrick and periera as back up. So matic and fabhino would be ideal. Leaving any 3 from fabhino herrera pogba and matic. In a 60 game seadon each of that 4 could start 40 games leaving us never having to rely on players as poor as fellaini to start 20 to 30 games.

{Ed004's Note - Can anyone remember how many midfielders Ed2 said we were looking at. I vaguely remember he might of said 2 and it would make sense if we are playing a 3 man midfield}

14.) 26 Jun 2017 14:29:12
Ken, I'm not quite sure what Newcastle has to do with this :)

Pogba, Herrera, Carrick, Matic, Pereira, TFM (plus Mata, Miki, Jesse if we play with a 10) is plenty of options. I don't want to sign a youngster just for the sake of it when we can develop Pereira and TFM.

At the moment it looks like Fellaini is staying whther we like it or not so you can throw him into that list as well.

If we get Matic AND Fabinho then we whould be looking to play Fab at right back most of the time and CM when needed.

15.) 26 Jun 2017 14:30:02
Matic and Renato Sanches to come in?

16.) 26 Jun 2017 15:39:38
Eric,

Ergh no, I feel like if Renato Sanchez was called Rory Stones nobody would even be mentioning him!

17.) 26 Jun 2017 18:36:28
Like his brother John?

18.) 26 Jun 2017 18:48:34
I dunno gds if Rory had dreadlocks he could be famous😂😂.

19.) 26 Jun 2017 20:19:46
Yes but john stones fetched a sanchez amount of money!

20.) 26 Jun 2017 21:47:42
I don't think matic was great last season and Jose dropped him the previous season saying he needed to many touches .
Had a good season 3 year back but I'm not surprised Chelsea are happy to sell .
Another body in cm and we are probably 1 short in there but not a huge upgrade imo.

21.) 26 Jun 2017 22:11:50
IF Jose didn't rate him he wouldn't buy him! Again.

22.) 26 Jun 2017 22:32:46
Ed4 I think ed said if Carrick gets a contract prob just 1 cm in .

{Ed004's Note - Suppose that makes sense unless someone like Fellaini moves on}

23.) 26 Jun 2017 22:35:40
Eric
I'm sure he does rate him but he must of rated his other options more .
And that's probably the same with Chelsea at the moment which is why i guess they are open to selling him.

24.) 26 Jun 2017 22:51:07
Ed4
The wig only has a year left on his contract will be 30 this year so club and player may decide to cash in .
That said I think Jose likes him gives a different option.

{Ed004's Note - I like Fellaini as well. Gives his all every game and is a different option. However he should only be a sub option}

25.) 26 Jun 2017 23:38:04
Would be interesting to read what Chelsea fans think of this rumour. Personally I rate Matic as someone who would improve our 11 in many circumstances.

26.) 27 Jun 2017 09:12:03
Zlatan
If they replace him with Bakayoko I would imagine most will be happy .
Looks a good bit of business to be honest.

27.) 27 Jun 2017 10:49:31
Matic is EXACTLY what we need.

A sitting midfielder who will break up play and give the ball to Herrera and Pogba.

Sometimes you need a player to come in that will allow others to play.

Or, y'know, we could just stick Fellaini there and see what happens.

28.) 27 Jun 2017 11:27:50
Dowders
Fellaini doesn't really play that role herrera does and he done it very well last season.

13 Jun 2017 23:32:19
Celtic are apparently favourites to sign Januzaj this summer. I personally think it would be a good move for him in a good side that will sort his style of play.

I for one am disappointed he didn't make the grade at United because I think he has a lot of talent; but I wish him well where ever he ends up, and hope he can fulfil his potential.

Tuor10

1.) 13 Jun 2017 23:35:54
That should have read: suit his style of play.

2.) 13 Jun 2017 23:45:07
swap him for the young left back i am sure edo7 will agree.

{Ed007's Note - Throw in De Gea, Mata and Rooney and you're getting close.}

3.) 14 Jun 2017 00:18:19
you can have smalling and jones as well ed.

{Ed007's Note - We've got The Krankies, we don't need another comedy duo up here.}

4.) 14 Jun 2017 00:25:03
One of the coaches were quoted as saying Januzaj and Wilson stopped doing all the good stuff with their first big contract.

{Ed007's Note - Sounds like my wife after we got married.}

5.) 14 Jun 2017 04:09:47
I would be very surprised if this was true. Celtic seem to be pushing for young Roberts (who is a superb little player) and I can't see him and Adnan in the same side.

6.) 14 Jun 2017 01:21:15
Hahaha, she did carry on Bond, just not with you 😂.

{Ed007's Note - Well everybody's good at at least one thing in life - and my Mrs sure as hell ain't no cook! ;)

I think you're going to be disappointed.

08 Aug 2017 23:17:52
Got to say I am very proud of the lads tonight. A lot of other teams would have rolled over and allowed Madrid to run riot but we doubled our efforts and was unlucky not to get a second.

At the end of the day, That Real side are the best team in world football. They have been together a while They play as one. We are not at that level yet - not many that are - but I am confident we can get there.

Quick shout out to Matic. I thought he was top class. He is going to be the signing of the season IMO.

Can't wait for Sunday.

Just seen a picture of Zlatan training at Carrington; and the article goes onto say that the club might offer him a contract to the end of the season if he recovers well enough.

I for one would not be against the idea of him being given a new contract. From what I have read, he is very popular around the club.

What do you guys think?

Tuor10

1.) 23 Jun 2017 00:46:31
I would be glad to have him return, but only if he was not automatic first choice. it is a tough call because he brings goals, experience, confidence, and a certain swagger and edge to the team, but tactically, he slows us down in the way we play.

2.) 23 Jun 2017 07:58:18
Would also like to add he would be beneficial to keep on to help lindelof to settle in. Seems to help the young players from abroad settle in if they have some fellow countrymen around.

Thanks Ed.

Is he an attacking CM player?

{Ed004's Note - Seems to be able to play in the box to box role or as a number 10}

Not sure how that game can be considered any sort of measure of how far we have progressed.

Some of Fergie's greatest teams got their pants pulled down at Anfield, by poorer Liverpool sides than the one we faced yesterday.

IMO, there has been a lot of improvement in all areas. Just my opinion of course.
