So as the last few weeks of the window approach. Who do we think the club will sign? If Rashford leaves I think we sign 3, if he stays I think we sign 2.
I'm gonna say a LB and a CM are the definites.
There seems to be a few things happening on the outgoings at the moment, so very interesting times for the club.
Our usual dependable journalists like Mitten and Whitwell, who are usually well up on a lot of movements in the club have been very quiet this window and they don't seem to have a lot of info.
Tells me the club have completely closed ranks.
I've been very happy over the last couple of seasons but would like to see a couple more reinforcements come in this summer to strengthen us.
06 Aug 2026 12:46:05
Not bothered who we sign, to be honest. We have signed 80-90 million pounds players who did crap. So, I will trust those in charge to do their jobs as good as they can, with the constraints they're working to.
06 Aug 2026 13:15:19
Cheers, Ken. ??
Anyone else want to have a crack at who we think we might sign, either names or positions. Bit of fun. ?
06 Aug 2026 13:15:59
The club uses the likes of Mitten and Whitwell to put out rumours that benefit them. Been going on for years. Let's face it, we were never in for Anderson, Semenyo, Kane, and on and on. But it serves the club's purpose to put it out that these guys are their top targets when they know they are not going to put together the financial package to convince their club to sell or the player to join. Just want to make it look like we are in the conversation for a perceived top level player.
Someone recently posted the list of players we have signed and got nothing for when they left. Worse, we have to continue to pay wages or pay them to leave.
Rumours of the Madrid boys don't come from nowhere. We are just letting it be known we favor getting one of them to any other third midfielder. It is a safe rumour; we can always say they didn't want to come, Madrid wanted too much, the player's wages too high. We are signing players for mid-table money, on mid-table wages.
Two signings look pretty good. We are asking the scouts and Carrick to perform alchemy. Let's hope it can work. Stability in UCL and challenging for league and cups as the next step. Can we stay there, or will bigger spending teams overtake us? Time will tell.
06 Aug 2026 13:41:34
Maybe so, DB, but I do like them, particularly Mitten, who is very well connected and always seems to be well informed regardless of the subject matter, and in life that tells me he is well liked and respected.
I'm sure the club use him where they can, but he has also built up many contacts outside of the club that I am sure also inform him.
I'm just saying, the fact that neither of them, and many others, seem to have a clue about targets tells me that the club are tight lipped.
To be honest, it is great. They have been shrewd in their signings and I look forward to seeing who comes next.
I'd like a LB, CM and CB if Rashford stays.
06 Aug 2026 13:54:03
Antonee Robinson, and a CM before end of window... 1 of Baleba, Kone or Tchouameni. Maybe a CB too.
06 Aug 2026 14:08:12
I would have said Baleba, but no idea where his current injury leaves that.
06 Aug 2026 14:11:22
I think Mitten has to be well informed. For example, look at Chewyournanny. I nearly fell off my chair when Mitten said on the day he agreed his new deal that he still might be sold and we will be waiting for him before going for our third midfielder. Now that comment looks spot on instead of utterly bizarre. Never heard a rumour like that ever in memory I agree with Ken though, we have to become a little more disconnected between the sticker prices of sole of these players and the actual value they would bring. For example. If anyone reckons that Anderson is 3.5 times better than Anderson, or that Diomande is 4 times better than Amad then you sure as rubbish won't be asked to do my grocery shopping. We need attitude, behaviour and character purchases aligned to data driven performances. That's hard to deliver on every time as there's always likely to be one or two bits that are false indicators or outlier datasets that cannot continue. Always going to be errors in any recruitment. i'm a business owner so I know I don't want to waste money and I also know I do so every month. Drives you mental u til you a cept paretos law. I think k we still see the CM as our next purchase and also hope someone still comes in for rashford whilst paying attention to our next pre season or even the last next week before making any more firm commitments. We need to see how or who we can move players on that are not vital to our future. See what the pot is and also who's available. But we definitely have 3 nailed on purchases in mind I like the fact we have very little idea other than chewmynanny exactly what that looks like.
That's the united of old. Waking up one morning to Andy cole being signed, or Jaap team, Schmeichel, Solskjaer, Cantona or Vidic, following a transfer saga only to see them pivot to United like Berbatov. Younger fans might know them as legends but I promise you, there were plenty of signings that you all love that I remember first reaction being really, did we, wow and even more signings that befofe the did we it being who? Who are they, never heard of them. And yet we had 20 years of magic. And like magic, its always almost impossible to see how they pulled it off. So I prefer the sit back and see and then wait and see the results than judging in advance, becaise I have hlbeen pleasantly wrong way more often than recent years when I am like, yeah great, Falcao, Di Maria, Pogba, Antony, McGuire, Sancho, Sanchez Mhikitarian. All massive failures and totally held back our progress. Also looking at other teams who are now firmly in that trap. Liverpool Newcastle and Chelsea whilst this year's contenders are firmly City Arsenal and Spurs. Doesn't stop.me trawling these pages and the news sites every minute of the day. But I find myself these days reading and saying out loud oh get a grip what a load of tripe rather than wa hey that sounds great. I just can't wait foe the window to be over or at least the season to start so we can get on with it. Right now i'm like a fatty stood outside Greggs waiting foe them to open and I can smell it through the window.
06 Aug 2026 16:09:59
Co.
Can you imagine the reactions from the usual suspects if we signed an unheard of Dutchman or Norwegian or Dane as our key signings. ???
06 Aug 2026 18:01:57
At the moment I'd be happy if they signed someone that can simply kick a ball.
Without significant reinforcements, the team will struggle with the extra games. Most of the back 4 are either slow, injured, or about to be injured.

I don't know who the club will sign tbh. What I would like to see is
LB. Hall
CM Scott
ST. Watkins
If I was fickle, I would say no one. Carrick then fails, gets sacked, and they might get a better manager, but I am not. They need to give him a chance now they chose him.
06 Aug 2026 18:27:30
Last year, you wanted to sign Baleba, Red Man. Do you not want him anymore?
06 Aug 2026 18:29:59
I like the two key players signed (others I believe are youth / future players / fringe squad at best).
We need a good leftback and another midfielder (don't trust Mount's fitness and would like a more physically dominant CM to round out the squad).
Would love a rightback who can attack and defend, but not expecting movement on that this year.
We need a second specialist striker, but doubt they will sign one when we have Fernandes, Cunha, Mbeumo, Amad, Mount, Dorgu, Lacy and now Rashford to fit into the team.
But imagine Sesko gets a long-term injury, we are too close to no striker for comfort. Can others fill in? Yes. But they should only be in that position when injuries mount up, not when your only player needs a rest or has an injury.
06 Aug 2026 19:07:42
Let's see where they are in 3 weeks time, Red Man.
LB, CM and Forward would be ideal.
06 Aug 2026 19:11:00
Sign Hall or Truffert.
Sign Scott or Baleba.
Sell Rashford and some fringe players.

Do you keep files on people?
Did I want Baleba? Can you show me my post or posts that said that. To be honest I don't remember being that enamoured with Baleba. The position yes.
Is he not injured now?
Angel
I agree on the three weeks. Guess we have seen the owners mess with us all before and that is the concern. I really hope for those three with a very good level of quality.
06 Aug 2026 20:14:16
I don't keep files, I have a photographic memory for the written word.

? Red Man

10 Aug 2025 10:39:08 DCL is apparently willing to sign as a back up for Sesko, once Hojland goes.
Sacked his agent to make it happen. As a pure back up with low wages, I don't think that's a bad call. A top GK and Baleba is a very, very good window, possibly our best ever.
06 Aug 2026 20:17:41
Yes, rolled his ankle. Red Man should be out till mid September.
06 Aug 2026 20:16:41
There is another 4 or 5 posts from you calling for his signing last summer.
So why don't you want him anymore? I think that's fickle. Scott you never mentioned last summer and only when Bournemouth said they don't want to sell him you've been pushing his name.
Your more see through than a roll of clingfilm.
06 Aug 2026 20:38:53
The extraordinary thing, Redman, is you don't remember wanting a player that would have been in possibly our best window ever. ??
06 Aug 2026 20:42:32
Baleba was trash last season, and Scott had a breakout year? Maybe. I have to say I'm not certain about Scott to go with our other midfielders, but my biggest concern right now is sheer numbers and availability (Mount) versus playing someone out of position (Bruno) or from youth (not ready). So, any decent cm with a modicum of experience and I'm happy at this stage.

Clutching at straws a bit.
10 Aug, after we had already signed Cunha, MBueno and Sesko. So Baleba was not the key signing, but a CM who we needed. Icing on the cake.
I get you want to try to destroy any semblance of anti-Glazer or negative comment about Ratcliffe, but that's a bit weak.
Actually, thank you, it flags I was recognising we needed a good CM 12 months ago and the owners still haven't dealt with it.
06 Aug 2026 22:31:12
This time of year on here is just comedy gold!
06 Aug 2026 23:02:36
Red Man, do you not like Tielemans or Santos?
We have spent over a billion pounds in the last 5 seasons, Red Man. I'm not sure spending endless amounts of money is the answer. It certainly hasn't been up to now.
It's about picking the right players, whatever the cost, and I think that's what they're trying to do.
06 Aug 2026 23:24:32
No, Red Man, you thought we could get 4th or 5th if we signed Baleba. We came 3rd with no new midfielder. Not as astute as you make out.
You wanted Baleba. This year you don't. But you want Scott, and have been pushing his name since they said they won't sell him, so it will give you something else to moan about.
Getting Baleba in with a keeper would have made it 'our best window ever.' Not a keeper and a midfielder, a specific midfielder Baleba!
You'd have made a good copper, cos you just keep lying, even when presented with your own words.
07 Aug 2026 06:47:33

Santos and Tielemans are good players, but I don't think they dominate a central midfield.
It's not about the amount we spend, but the quality. Other teams have bought higher-quality players, and, yes, cost more than those two.
It looks like they are cost-driven, not the right-player driven. The image so far is they are the right player as long as it isn't affecting profits too much, bargain hunting.

The OP asked who do you think the club will sign. I said what I thought. You have turned it into something personal. You have history with doing it and got yourself banned previously. You directly call me a liar now. Unreal.
So, last summer, after making 3 really good signings for Amorim, we still needed that top class CM. Baleba is a good player, maybe would have fitted that role for us, might still, but didn't have a good season. Yet you are making a massive thing about how I now suggest Scott, a player who has come to prominence this last season, and started being directly personal.
To take the conversation in a different direction to suit you is quite something. Maybe you are fishing for a reaction, but actually it does flag more that you are connected to the club, with an aim to get fans to stop calling out what the owners are doing.
So, last year, adding a CM like Baleba would have been really good. Now, having seen Scott, I think he is better. I don't go back to old posts, don't know how, and I don't need your permission to suggest players, nor does that make me a liar.
07 Aug 2026 07:43:54
Not signing a 3rd midfielder would be a massive mistake and a huge risk. With the fixtures increasing, we just don't have enough options in there, never mind the quality. We need someone with legs, who can break up play and deal with the physicality of the EPL. What we have won't do that. Already seen a few articles talking up Mount, so if the club are trying to act like he's the saviour, then good luck. Injured by September. Hopefully we get some extra quality in, after all, we skipped January so as to fully prepare for this window... Hmmm!!
