I have a question for the experts on here. Has any Manager, appointed during a season, secured fewer points per game, than RA? Asking for a friend.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Apr 2025 18:44:10
RVN mate, Juric this season alone.

21 Apr 2025 19:00:20
Ruud van Nistelrooy.

21 Apr 2025 19:02:59
Ruud?

21 Apr 2025 19:19:09
Colin Todd for Derby in 2001 did pretty terribly from memory. Was hired and replaced within the season.

21 Apr 2025 20:03:20
I love this. So basically, RVN who has seen Leicester relegated without scoring at home for god knows how many games, and Colin Todd from 25 years ago.

21 Apr 2025 22:47:11
It's been disappointing no doubt. A very difficult period for the club both on and off the pitch. One of the worst seasons i can remember since I started supporting in the mid seventies and it's been bitter pill to swallow after bitter pill. I am very hopeful that in 18 months time we will be in a much better place. We have a great crop of young players at the club so recruitment to compliment them and the likes of Bruno will be crucial. I think RA is an excellent young coach and will build and develop a squad and team that will be in a position to compete. Qualifying for cl next season would boost those hopes further. Unlike previous summers I think the club will be ruthless in shipping players out. I'm not anything other than hopeful of us winning the europa league. It's hard to see us scoring enough goals although we have scored more in europa league games.

22 Apr 2025 06:59:54
OP Making the case to show how bad the manager is, without taking into account all the factors. Some on here were cheering to for Ruud to stay as well.
RA is an excellent young coach who I believe will restore us to challenging if we stick with him. Didn’t SAF finish 11th twice and 13th in his early years? I would argue the club is in as big a mess as then, albeit slightly different problems. They wanted a philosophy so appointed RA, utter madness not to carry it through.

22 Apr 2025 11:17:03
I didn't suggest sacking him, I was expressing some surprise at how poor results have been. You would have expected some sort of bounce yet I haven't seen it

And again, he has a formation that none of the top teams play, perhaps he knows something they don't.

Lovely guy, but I remain unconvinced.

22 Apr 2025 11:52:12
I’m with AJH on this one. I’ve seen nothing yet to suggest he’ll be here for the long haul. I’d happily eat my hat and anything else if he proves me wrong but not seeing it myself.

I saw a stat today regarding the wolves manager. He’s picked up 16 more points in the same time he’s been at wolves and beaten us twice along the way.
Playing the same style. Are wolves’ players that much better than ours?

I also keep seeing ‘we’ll be better off in 18 months time’. What’s happening over the next 18 months to suggest we’re going to be better off?

22 Apr 2025 13:09:42
Been some questionable displays, no doubt, but looking at it closely, lately we have seen an improvement. We create a lot more chances inside the box now, retain possession better and create more chances against low block teams than 3-4 months ago, just can't put them away

I think since we had fewer games and more intensive training there's definitely been an improvement, not drastic, but glimpses.

22 Apr 2025 13:22:09
We just have to hope, that when RA gets the tools he needs, we start to witness that he is and will be a good coach. Yes on one hand he should have picked up more points since arriving, but on the other hand the squad is awful got worst GK in the league and worst striker/ s and what’s the point in RA changing his philosophy just for this season to what get 5-6 extra points, hopefully he is building even if in his own head and we start next season much better, could hardly be worse!
If by this time next year we are still this crap, well then yes he is gone and we move on again!
All those who loved ETH and that was most on here, he really decimated this club, I said all along the players he was letting go, the replacements were absolutely worse! But that history now, let’s hope the future gets brighter….
I’m hoping more with my heart than my head we win the Europa, we desperately need CL next season.

22 Apr 2025 14:32:49
AJH, you can't point out a negative on here regarding RA or you'll be accused of asking him to get the sack. Or ploughing your own furrow, right ken? ? Or are AJH and I ploughing it together lol.

It's been worse than poor.

I really hope he turns this around, but like you I remain unconvinced.

22 Apr 2025 14:34:32
Redman, the utter madness could be appointing a coach who has only coached in the Portuguese league and bringing 2 assistants with him, 28 and 30 and then persisting with a formation that doesn't seem to work.

Either that or our genius but so far it's looking like the latter. Fingers crossed he can change it around.

22 Apr 2025 14:35:28
2 toms, good post.

22 Apr 2025 15:20:32
Fans need to be patient. Season doesn't matter now other than winning europa - and no, that will not be easy.

The club need to get real and sign a main striker. We have players who will leave in summer and somehow we need to bring in some quality experienced players to work with our good group of youth.

22 Apr 2025 16:21:16
DB, I agree, honestly. I know all eggs are in the Europa League basket and have been for some time.

We need a couple of different attacking options and I'd say a decent CM. And obviously a dependable GK.

22 Apr 2025 19:50:24
Let's be honest, there isn't a single position in that team that couldn't be upgraded, many with quite modest signings from the clubs around us in the league. Bruno is arguably the only exception. He has his critics but is our best player by a country mile.
Our best centreforward is a centreback no-one at the club or seemingly outside it wants.
We have a selection of attacking midfielders/ no.10s behind them in these crucial creative positions, any on their day could be sold without being missed. Amad walks back into the team but there are others who improve it instantly, from Cunha to Kluivert and Semenyo.
All wingback options other than Amad are uninspiring. Dorgu I'm sure will improve and as Amorim's only signing so far deserves the benefit of the doubt.
I actually don't mind our current quota of centrebacks, if any of them could stay fit and build on their form. Quick word on Heaven, what a great signing he will prove to be. All these big names floating about and says a lot that a kid picked up for pocket money walks into the team and improves it. Either shows how dreadful our squad is, or maybe the scouting team deserve a rare pat on the back.
Don't get me started on Krusty in goal. I think he's going backwards. With every shot I have no idea whether he's about to pull off a worldy or catch it and throw it into the net. Madness.

22 Apr 2025 20:08:12
Amos been a disaster so far not what i was expecting don't no why people are thinking he's some top top young coach he's been very 1 dimensional so far. But TH absolutely destroyed UTD with his signings gave Amo nothing to build on 700 million spent be very lucky to get 100 million for the lot of them . i'd give Amo the summer window but if he's still serving up gash by xmas stuck in mid table i'd sack him got to end this cult of manager damaging to the club no other club or fanbase thinks like this can't judge till he's spent half a billion+ on a raft of players can you imagine a serious club like Bayern doing that aww its ok he's no spent much yet wel write this season of can't expect the manager to work with what he's got like actually improve them.

22 Apr 2025 20:27:38
Let's not beat around the bush, with this squad 90% of managers would be relegated. Even guardiola, klopp, ancelotti and ferguson wouldn't be much better off. It's not the current manager, its the previous couple of ceos and their teams of bad recruiters that have done this.

22 Apr 2025 20:40:47
2 Tom's. You don't see anything improved over the last 18 months.
The whole financial structure of the business has and us all going through a massive overhaul.
The foundations to rebuild the squad are being put in place.
We have been playing a massively inexperienced team. 5 or 6 of our regular startes lately are teenagers or under 22.
We have the worst keeper in the division.
We have the worst strikers in the division.
We were playing 2 teenagers in cb positions.
The club is laying the foundations that will allow us to rebuild a squad that's full of over paid and under performing players that are simply not up to the rigours ov epl football.
Sancho Anthony rasford ericksen lindelof Evans and Heaton all on their way out.
It may take 12 months to rid ourselves of others due to not being able to take a loss on their book value.
On the pitch I see a modicum of improvement in how we play and approach games. We just don't have the players to play epl football. I think we are unbeaten in Europe since RA game having not won a European game in 10 or 12 matches before that.
If you can't see that there have been many and some positive changes your not looking at the full picture imo.
Lots of good work going on much of it unpleasant for some but necessary in order to get the club in a position to recover from the poor leadership and mistakes of the past.
Eth was a huge mistake and the idiots that put him there and spent stupid money giving stupid contracts will take some time to recover from.
In order to fix what happens on the pitch open heart surgery is required we were told that many moons ago.
We have in place now a team that will have the courage of their convictions and that takes time.
A few idiots won't be happy because there here and now is not ideal but as a club we are better off without those idiots that can't see the wood for the trees.

22 Apr 2025 21:13:11
Funnily enough Danny I reckon the likes of Moyes/ Silva would have get us higher in the table this season with their simplistic approaches and formations.
But I’m not saying I want that.
They’d get no further than mid table, with a Europa chase our only dream.
With Amorim I believe, if we’re willing to take the risk (which it is), and something clicks into place, we ‘might’ be so much more.
Red or blue pill.?

22 Apr 2025 22:38:15
The same people who threw ETH under the bus after 18 months are now allowing RA time on the basis Fergie didn't start well in his first 2 seasons.

22 Apr 2025 23:33:24
ETH destroyed this club his legacy will be the wasted open heart surgery saddling UTD with utter gash like Hoijlund Onana the Balsa wood butcher etc . No manager should get a free hit anymore pretty sure if Amos still gash by xmas hel be gone hopefully anyway.

22 Apr 2025 23:50:21
Kurtis. Eth had over 700m spent for him. He brought in too many players that did not do well.
Cf he brought in are zirkzee rasmus weggy.
Keepers he brought in onana and bayindir.
Cbs martinez deligt
Fbs maz and malacia
Cm mount and casimero
Winger Anthony
I'm sure there are others.
Not a good record.
Imo eth was not a good leader. The team got worse overtime not better.
He was fired on 13 points after 11 games in 15th and left behind a mish mash of a squad with little coconfidence and low morale. Hadn't won in i think 12 games in Europe. Finished 8th and with a minus goal difference and left us in 15th with a minus goal difference.
Again imo he spoke very poorly and was in total denial of the poor job he was doing and how poor this team were.
He did not have the courage of his convictions and he didn't stay true to his beliefs.
I see something very different in the personality with RA. I see a leader a man with a plan and a vision.
He can't deliver his vision with this squad. Completely lacking in the physicality needed to compete in the premiership.
He has been doing a little better in Europe because there is less emphasis on physicality in Europe compared to the epl.
Regularly he is playing with 5 or 6 players under 22 with 2 or 3 teenagers.
I understand that things can't happen with the squad until the summer I'm really hoping for a massive clearout.
I also understand if you don't see what I see.
You amd angel and jimbob saw a future in eth i strongly disagreed.
Your entitled to disagree I've no issue with that at all.
You wanted eth to get more time in didn't. I think RA will be fully accountable in 18 months time.
I've not once compared him or his start to fergie.
It's a different time and different era the rules of engagement have changed substantially since then.
But the job he has to undertake is similar. He needs to rid the club of poor characters with inflated ego and no winning culture or pedigree.
I think amorim is the right man to do that.
Plus off the pitch the club was in turmoil when fergie arrived. So in those respects his job description is similar.
Eth was bringing us backwards and left a terrible mess behind so happy for RA to be given the time and tools to build something great.

23 Apr 2025 05:16:23
Let’s be fair in Tumble, you was not against ETH from the beginning, like your now trying to say you were, in fact I specifically remember you and other posters chastising someone on here who said that ETH was far out his depth and the players he was buying were worst than what he was getting rid of and parted with 700m to do it.
Yes you finally caught up and turned on ETH and then others followed, but others still wear those red tints even on our crap players now, I see one even questioned why I called 90% of our squad useless, simple answer is they are useless and 90% is being generous, you yourself even slate our best player in Bruno!

23 Apr 2025 06:32:59
Ken, a few idiots? You can't help yourself can you, a good discussion isn't complete without an insult is it?

You're always so sure you are right, and get personal with those that disagree with you. Have you considered therapy?

23 Apr 2025 06:41:53
I believe Amorim is a leader, has conviction in what his plan is, is not scuttling back on that plan to try to win games because some fans are squeaking like ETH did. I am with him in what he is trying to do. Nothing lasts forever and he has to turn it round but I believe he deserves time based on what he wants to do.

23 Apr 2025 08:47:24
I'm a firm believer in therapy ajh. If you go it allows you to express yourself without fear. Yes I'm nearly always sure I'm right I'm never afraid to express that. Nor am I afraid to admit when I'm wrong. If people are insulted so be it I'm not responsiblefor people's feelings. If anyone feels insulted i can't control people's feelings. When you are used to getting most things you want it tends to come across like that. I'm really not bothered.
German your right I was pro giving eth the opportunity I remember having the discussing with you under one of your other logos ins.
He came with a decent pedigree and deserved the opportunity to do it his way. But unfortunately it became obvious he was not the character I thought he was or at some point he broke and became unfixable. The warning signs were there and I heeded them.
Every new manager gets my support. He was not my 1st choice at the time but when it became obvious to me he was the wrong man I put my flag in the sand.

23 Apr 2025 10:18:32
I think DannyC and Spenno have nailed it succinctly.

Yes, maybe Moyes or managers with a similar style could get this team higher up the table, but so what? Finishing 9th every season would be pointless.

I agree that top managers past and present like SAF, Guardiola, Klopp etc would do no better with the current Utd squad.

I'm not sure how Ancelotti would fair ??‍♂️

It looks like he will be available in the summer though. Just saying ?.

23 Apr 2025 10:35:47
Tumbleweed, no I don’t see improvement at all. I fully understand these are not Amorims players. I also understand that the board are now making drastic changes behind the scenes to rectify years of inconsistency.
I also can see that week in, week out we are being outplayed by most teams. Our set up is appalling.
I don’t just have this blind faith that Amorim will turn out to be this master tactician when so far his system has proven to be rubbish in the PL.
If that makes me one of the idiots then so be it.
Pass me the dunce hat and next time I watch us play I’ll just pretend everything’s going in the right direction and we’re not languishing in 14th.

23 Apr 2025 11:38:49
I can kinda see now why Liverpool and West Ham rejected Amo very 1 dimensional and his style which may not work will require a lot of money spent another huge gamble by UTD i said at the time and still say wouldve been better with Southgate for a few seasons if that'd had been some sexy named foreigner got say Belgium to finals and semis etc UTD fans wouldve been all over him . Don't understand this oooooh X manager wouldve got higher with this squad but wer playing the long game time as seen with TH dosent make a donkey a racehorse Amo was definitely a panic move by Ratclife not a mention of him when they were interviewing every other manager last summer strange appointment imo.

{Ed025's Note - Soutgate would have bored you to death Brum boi, i think hes awful mate and there is a reason he is out of work, had a great England squad but played his favourites like Harry and Shaw who lets be honest are Turkish Delight..

23 Apr 2025 13:16:58
Well 2 Tom's if the cap fits wear it.
If you think nothing has improved over last 6 months that's your perogative.
I can assure you a lot has improved in terms of the infrastructure and finances and the outlook is a lit more positive for the short to medium turn due to the tough decisions made.
That will transfer onto the pitch in time I think.

23 Apr 2025 14:24:07
Jesus Southgate…. no way, terrible tactics terrible manager! Not for me that’s for sure!
I don’t get why anyone can say they have seen nothing so far, it’s been a huge shift in play, least you can now see what we are trying to do and what way of playing we are aiming for, I for one love that RA is sticking to what got him the job, but how anyone expects anything with zero strikers and such a dodgy keeper is beyond me along with one dimensional Garnacho and fridge carrying CBs
We will get in 4-5 players without doubt and 2 of them must be strikers or maybe Odi makes up 1 place, gone will be
Rasmus, Garnacho, Onana, Deligt or McGuire, Shaw, Zirkee, possibly Cas, possibly Mainoo
Mazaroui will become backup along with Dorgu.

23 Apr 2025 23:48:11
Why not Southgate tremendous record as England manager brought loads of young players in bit negative sometimes but usually against teams far superior to us. What you seeing i see UTD loosing most weeks and in need of yet another rebuild to accommodate a 1 dimensional manager each to there own tho German fella hopefully your right and Amos as good as you think ill wager with you my man if you want 20 bangers he's gone by Xmas love a bet?

24 Apr 2025 04:17:03
Tremendous record as England manager, you’re joking right! won nothing, beat no decent teams in anything meaning full, had a golden generation of talent at his disposal, bored the pants off everyone in every game, fluffed the most winnable games, now can’t get a job of being a manager after thinking clubs would be bashing his door down, on top of that the most boring man apart from one or two on here!

23 Apr 2025 23:43:19
Ed 25 maybe but Amos footballs not exactly edge of the seat thrill a minute unless you support the other side who are usually pulverizing UTD . Would be good to see an English manager at UTD i think he'd shock you look how bad England were before him likes of Iceland used to smash us imo he's been a tremendous England manager never imagined us getting that close to winning big tournaments specially with such a young team.

{Ed025's Note - in the end its just about opinions mate, i think you dodged a bullet not appointing Southgate myself..

24 Apr 2025 09:49:49
I'm not convinced by Amorim yet but there are so many individual mistakes that he can't be blamed for. The players are really poor, I just don't see it working for Mount either. My only criticism of him is that I think he left us short by letting players go on loan. But I guess that was done with a view to getting rid of them in the summer.
