Is the Maguire deal done Ed's? Cheers.

UnitedWeStand

{Ed004's Note - Not yet}

1.) 21 Jul 2019 18:15:40
Thanks Ed.

2.) 21 Jul 2019 18:33:12
Think it will be a bad signing. he's good, but not great.

3.) 21 Jul 2019 20:03:32
Mad hatter ask your self this

Would he instantly walk into the team?

Yes.

4.) 21 Jul 2019 20:02:01
So if he’s good, how will it be a bad signing?

5.) 21 Jul 2019 20:08:45
Hatter he gets some bad press because his name isn't very exotic mate. I honestly believe he is exactly what we need. We looked very suspect from set pieces and crosses last year, that has carried over into preseason and Maguire would go a long way to solving that issue. He will prove people wrong if we get the signing sealed. It's widely said that Pep is the best thing since sliced bread and he obviously see's something in him too, do all the critics no more than Ole or Pep? I'd suggest not.

6.) 21 Jul 2019 21:50:31
I’m bored of reading week in week out people saying “his name isn’t exotic enough”. Absolute bollocks, myself and I’m sure other posters don’t think he’s great because of his ability, nothing to do with this fancy name crap people keep throwing out there.

7.) 21 Jul 2019 21:55:28
Didn't pep also want Sanchez and Fred? Look how that turned out.

8.) 22 Jul 2019 06:04:31
We never know darv.
Sanchez and Fred could have been a hit at City.
Sometimes things don't work out for players at certain clubs.

9.) 22 Jul 2019 06:55:09
Stand- you and a few others on this site may be the exceptions and genuinely believe he isn't good enough, however we do live in a world where foreign players are deemed better than homegrown, it's the same with managers. On to his ability, to insinuate he isn't good enough is "absolute bollocks" as you so eloquently put it. He would be the best CB at the club, he is one of the best CB's in the league and will only improve. He improves our aerial threat in the opposition box and makes us much less shakey at set pieces. The only thing he lacks is pace but even then he covers ground quickly at the top end because his strides are so long, I would argue he only lacks acceleration and not top end pace.

Darv- sometimes signings just don't work. My point was I believe Pep and Ole know more about football than us and that includes judging player ability. If they want a player, that's good enough for me. I couldn't care less if we pay 80 or 180 million personally, people get too caught up in fees and money.

10.) 22 Jul 2019 09:00:32
Fred needs another season and a decent run in the team

Give him a chance.

11.) 22 Jul 2019 09:59:57
Agree with that bolger, there is a player in there.

12.) 22 Jul 2019 10:22:46
I am more excited about the fact we have a proper right back now. A natural right back that can head the ball, tackle, lots of pace to get up and down the line. He's young, hungry and going off the three games he's been involved in looks a bloody steal at 50 million quid. Aaron Wan-Bissaka will be a brilliant signing for us. Great bit is business by United.

13.) 22 Jul 2019 14:16:36
I think Maguire will be an excellent signing. I am not saying there are not alternatives but for me he is a round peg in a round hole for us when you list out what we need from CB to partner Lindelof.
Alongside AWB the backline has massively improved defensively and this will give OGS hopefully more confidence to play a HM that is not Matic to speed our play up.
I think whilst we are wanting more the signings so far and who we are looking at are at least filling need and with a longer term vision in mind.

14.) 22 Jul 2019 16:56:20
To say he's one of the best cbs in the league is pushing it. Be interesting if he doesn't sign how many people will be back tracking on comments like. This if he signs back him if he doesn't i won't lose any sleep.

15.) 23 Jul 2019 02:37:25
W16. Matip and loveren at Liverpool, stones at city, luiz at chelsea, sanchez at spurs, anyone at arsenal. All play most weeks for those clubs.
Maguire is a better cb than all of them. He would get into any of those sides.
He will be our best cb instantly.
Is there better cbs in world football. Yes. Are many available or epl proven. No.
I think he and awb will become cult hero's and firm fan favourites because they are trier's. Maguire is very comfortable on the ball and if you can show me 5 goals in the last 3 seasons where he has been at fault directly for conceding goals due to his lack of pace i'd be surprised his stats say he has not been.
Not perfect but more perfect than most imo.
If we concede 12 goals less this season it will have been money well spent.

16.) 23 Jul 2019 09:52:00
Well said Ken.

You've actually half convinced me that it's a solid signing (if it finalises) .

Few reports saying that Miranda is done Eds, any truth? Do like him as a player!

UnitedWeStand

{Ed004's Note - didn't the club deny it yesterday?}

1.) Sorry mate, haven't seen that. Only thing that worries me is his age.

2.) 29 May 2014 20:23:00
Think you'll find Barca have come in for him.

28 May 2014 07:34:05
Is there any interest from us from Maxime Gonalons of Lyon eds?

UnitedWeStand

{Ed002's Note - On a number of occasions Frederic Guerra has said that Gonalons would only leave Lyon for Real or Napoli. Whilst he took over as captain, Arsenal, Manchester United and Monaco were still looking for a deal for the player. Frankly, Guerra remains most likely correct in my view with the interest of Napoli bubbling away and there have been a number of discussions. It has been suggested by someone from Arsenal that they might look again at the player. I would think he would want to speak to Faunier before long.}

1.) Cheers ed. I rate the guy highly, also heard he's a fan of the Bundesliga.

Matic. Wow. I knew he was a good player but I didn't know he was that good. His composure on the ball was excellent, he reads the game so well. He will be a massive miss for Chelsea this year and a massive plus for me.

It's early days but nobody will fancy it against us on that showing. I still feel we need a wide player, everything goes central and today it's worked but against better teams we will need someone to hug the line and give us that wider dimension to pull players out. Enter peresic.

1.) 13 Aug 2017 20:11:26
Really surprised at this narrative that people didn't realize how good matic was. All you have to do is sit down and watch a few Chelsea games to understand how great a player he is. I hope it puts the doubters to bed.

Chelsea fans must be fuming they allowed the board to sell.

2.) 13 Aug 2017 20:39:42
To be honest angel in my opinion he wasn't as good as he was today at Chelsea. Seems he had a little more freedom today. That's the best I've seen him play, he was phenomenal. He freed up Pogba too which was also telling.

On a side note surely Martial keeps his place, when he came on Zableta must of died a little inside. "Rashford to martial, give me a break". That said I'm not sure who you drop!

3.) 13 Aug 2017 20:48:55
Well you should really go back and watch him. He didn't just miraculously become a great player today. He has been that good for Chelsea.

4.) 13 Aug 2017 21:05:34
Angel I've seen plenty of him and in my opinion he was better today. Like I say just my two cents.

5.) 14 Aug 2017 00:30:31
Angel. No one is saying he wasn't great for Chelsea, but in the dozens and dozens of matches I've watched him play, that was his best passing performance. It was like watching a Pirlo stuck in a 6'4" body. His long passing out wide was great, but I lost track of the number of times he slid little delicate passes into space in midfield to create chances, like mini-counterattacks with Pogba, Mata or Mickey driving at the defense with multiple options around them. Best I've ever seen matic, and that's not an insult to his time at Chelsea.

16 Apr 2017 19:42:58
What a performance! Just got back from the game and I have to say that is the loudest we have been in a long time, the place was absolutely rocking! I thought Herrera was absolutely phenomenal, the complete action man performence today. His tenacity and ability to stifle play is second. Hazard has just climbed out of his pocket for the evening!

11 May 2016 18:16:26
Devastated about the absolute shower last night, especially the first 45 minutes which I think is probably the worst I've ever seen us play.

My question is do people think we will be back? Will we win the title again In the near future? The swashbuckling style of yesteryear seems so long ago and it's gutting to witness.

UnitedWeStand

1.) 11 May 2016 18:24:33
That was the worst you've seen this season?

2.) 11 May 2016 18:46:58
It's a long road back.

3.) 11 May 2016 19:08:44
That wasn't the worst and it isn't a long road back. We got battered for 45 minutes but rose to the challenge and took control in the second half. Unfortunately we gave away stupid fee kicks and could defend set pieces, no excuse for that. At 2-1 up we should have brought on the bog boys to consolidate but once again, slow to react and suddemly it was too late.

LVG has been tortuous and if he stays I think next year will be much of the same. However, the team picked last night could and should have won that game and I think the players are culpable. After the attack on the coach, and knowing it was the last game at Upton Park, the team should have be fired up and chomping at the bit knowing they were in for a battle. They were flat and got bullied, the teams of 93/ 94, 96/ 97, 99/ 01 wouldn't have and that says a lot about the lack of character we have in the squad.

Recently we have lost Evra, Vidic and Ferdinand who were always up for a scrap. Sadly, we look lightweight and whoever we buy this year, we need leaders and people who stand their ground.

I maintain that 2 or 3 quality signings, and a change of Manager, will have us competing again.

4.) 11 May 2016 19:46:33
2 or 3 signings who could fight, would be a start.

5.) 11 May 2016 20:42:23
As soon as Utd scored to make it 1-2 I wanted LVG to bring on Jones in midfield to help with the aerial bombardment.
After the cup game was I the only one who knew exactly what was coming?

I know Jones is not a world beater, on top form and has not played in the first team for months. However he was on the bench and as such must of been good enough for 20 minutes. He would of at least given us some additional muscle to defend against the crosses and free kicks!

I don't simply just blame LVG for our results as the players have something to answer to as well. However for someone of his experience I feel he should be acting to the situation. West Ham used pace and power and out muscled Utd and all we did was bring on Lingard and Januzaj, two featherweights.

I can't imagine players like Vidic, Keane, Scholes, Giggs, Butt, Neville, Becks, or Stam, or Pallister and Bruce not rising to the challenge. At 1-2 they would of closed out the game and picked West Ham off to score another goal.

We have a long way to go and I am happy to wait for a good period for this to happen. However we need the right man at the helm and a plan for the long term. LVG is bringing in some good young players which I like but the style of play and lack of leaders on the pitch is really concerning.

6.) 12 May 2016 08:47:55
Mostly agree AJH, a couple of quality players (CB, energetic MF, winger, striker) would set us on the way again - plus a new manager.

Happy enough with the potential of most of the squad (though they need to show up more often) but more leadership needed to bollock those who are slacking.

John Terry for a season anyone?

"It says a lot about our team that we're worried about this United side"

"The worst United side I've seen in years"

"How is this team in the running"

Just some of the quotes I've taken from the other sites. Is anyone else getting tired of hearing this rubbish? On current form we have the best defence in league, over the last few games we've created much more than people like to give us credit for & our style of play is very similar to that of the great Barce teams(no we're no Barcelona) . when they play possession football it's majestic, when we do it it's boring negative.

I actually like the style we're trying to play & the 40 odd pass goal the other week proves its starting to come together. If we win the league (IF) it won't say champions via possession football, it'll say champions! So sod the haters we are United & we're more than used to it.

2-3 today, hoping for a big Depay performance. Come on boys!!

1.) 04 Oct 2015 11:17:30
I noticed that too, the Arsenal site are referring to us as at best average. Not sure I agree re the style, we still need more pace and penetration but controlling the ball is the start point I guess. We just need to keep winning and people will soon change their minds.

2.) 04 Oct 2015 11:21:59
How anyone can say this is the worst team they've seen for years is beyond me.

Correct me if I am wrong, but did we not go through a period where Cleverley and Anderson were first choice? With Valencia and Young wide, and Welbeck with Rooney upfront. now that really is a bad team.

3.) 04 Oct 2015 11:33:21
AJH and the rest, let whoever refer to us as whatever they want. It reflects worse on them when we beat them.

In reality a lot of fans of a lot of different football clubs are envious of the success we have achieved in recent years and will take a pop whenever they can as we have not been hitting the heights in the last couple of years. But now we are slowly getting back to our feet and putting together some nice football while other clubs ie Arsenal are doing the same things over and over again.

4.) 04 Oct 2015 11:36:56
Yes I've noticed that too. I quite like it when everyone writes is off though!

5.) 04 Oct 2015 12:11:27
Fresh didn't that team batter them 8-2.

6.) 04 Oct 2015 12:36:30
Yes, and look at what a terrible team it was! Haha.

7.) 04 Oct 2015 12:44:26
How bad were they then ha.

8.) 04 Oct 2015 13:12:22
I hear you Fresh. AJH my point is mate I don't care (for now) how we win aslong as we win. I'm starting to feel that 'the world hates us' feeling again but that's good. It means we're winning again. Now until we walk out I'm a toffee for a few hours, hoping they pile the pressure of charismatic Brenda.

9.) 04 Oct 2015 13:20:18
I don't know who said its the worst United side in years because they obviously forgot about the moyes year and to some extent last year. This year you are clearly moving forward, you have a good base and he know his team and shape now. But I do agree you are still currently average to good at times. Even against Wolfsburg at home in places they made you look average despite the win. And that never happens at OT. You probably can scoff because we have had some shockers this year. But if we can find our knackers and come out and play think we will put a few past you.

I will come on guys after the game to either roll in the roses or eat the s**t.

Good clean game with no Reffing howlers. May the best team win.

Peace

10.) 04 Oct 2015 15:25:54
Nice one grow hopefully another classic between the 2 great premier league sides.

11.) 04 Oct 2015 15:44:42

My point is we scored 4, luck doesn't come into it when you score 4 unanswered goals. Yes Chelsea were wasteful and yes Dave saved a few but Chelsea not finishing isn't our problem and isn't your keeper supposed to make saves?

I thought Pogba was poor all game but then there are glimpses of the player you know he is, the ball for Rash over the top and the drive through midfield to set up DJ typifies him. For me he will worry teams and cause problems.

In Rash, Martial and Jesse we have players with pace who can run in behind and run the channels, this will also cause teams problems. I actually think we will be better suited to play against teams Like City, Liverpool and Spurs etc. Teams that will have a go and press high giving the pacey front 3 chance to stretch them at the other end, that's where Pogba will be very important for us with his vision, It's imperative he is motivated and he stays until replaced if we want to be top 4.

As for teams that will defend in compact blocks (that's where we will struggle) I think Maguire will become essential in bringing the ball out from the back and creating an overload in the middle. Can we break them down?

I thought we were poor at the back, great individually but we didn't defend well as a team, partly because Shaw was doubled up on for most of the game with Rash not really tracking back but I do think that will come.

City- I thought were phenomenal and are the team to beat again.

Liverpool- While good I thought Norwich created a few good chances, I have a feeling they can be got at this year. It's whether or not teams can outscore them.

Spurs- I thought ran out of ideas until Eriksen came on, he's important for them.

Arsenal- I really didn't see anything much from them, I thought Newcastle were always in the game (who looked very poor themselves) Auba is excellent and does what he always does.

All in all I'm excited, I'm enjoying watching us again which is amazing. I even got my Mrs cheering us on! I think we will surprise a few this year. I don't think we will be as far away as last year :)

Spot on that Shappy.

Jackson, "with better finishing from us the match could've been a lot different" and in other news if my Mum was male she'd be my Dad.

We were clinical, we took the chances that came our way. It's that simple. You can be lucky in the odd game winning by 1-0 but if you win 4-0 you fully deserve it, which I know you have already stated but some of the posts on the Chelsea page are laughable mate.

UnitedWeStand

{Ed0333's Note - I don’t concur mate I thought Chelsea were wasteful and should of been 2 up before you scored. That wasn’t anywhere near a vintage performance from you’re lot and if you'd have played City, Liverpool, Spurs on that form you’d have been soundly dealt with. I didn’t see anything from United that worried me but I agree you did make the most of you’re chances.

I would say, as you have already said, people in glass houses should not throw stones. That being said Maguire will surprise a lot of people, mark my words he will make it at United and will prove to be a good signing. Remember the mob signing Van Dijk? Was he worth 75 million then? No of course he wasn't, yet he went on to prove his worth and is for my money the best CB in the world. English players come at a premium, add to that the fact Leicester didn't need to sell and the fact we needed a CB desperately and 80 million is the outcome. Come back half way through the season so I can say I told you so.

Scott when I scroll down the pages here and see your posts I instantly know it's going to be a negative post. Lighten up man, Young is one of our longest serving players and is a voice in the dressing room. He has a wealth of experience and despite his best playing days being behind him will still lead by example and give 100% whenever he is call upon. He won't start many, if any of the big games and will get game time in Europe and the cups. We have a team filled with young talent, when you have that it's imperative there are old heads about the place. As I said regardless of skill set, the young lads will look up to him which can only help.

I cannot wait for the season to start, life just isn't the same without United in it!
