That's Mata off as well. The list still has several player we'd want to see gone like Jones, BIssaka, Martial, Pereirra, etc.

Ed, are United looking to bring in both FdJ and Ruben Neves or is it one of?

Interesting that you said Savic would be ideal replacement for Pogbye. assuming he's the fallback to Fdj.

Ramsey9090

{Ed002's Note - Manchester United want two MF players. You can likely discount Neves. I would not make any assumptions.}

1.) 02 Jun 2022 12:48:12
Thanks Ed! A bit deflationary though.

Have yourself a lovely day.

2.) 02 Jun 2022 14:59:08
Six gone, fourteen left to go.

3.) 02 Jun 2022 15:02:15
Ed a quick run down of our targets for the summer if possible. I know things mightve changed since Ten Hags arrival.

{Ed002's Note - Nit worth the grief.}

4.) 02 Jun 2022 16:07:01
Ahhh never mind ED have a great summmer!

5.) 02 Jun 2022 17:22:37
Six?

I have Pogba, Cavani, Matic, Mata and Lingard gone thus far. Who did I miss.

6.) 02 Jun 2022 20:27:13
The GK, Grant I think.

7.) 02 Jun 2022 20:31:00
The great Lee Grant :)

8.) 02 Jun 2022 20:34:39
Legend Lee Grant.

I'm not one to panic, but at the moment I just want to hit that button

All the teams that we want to be catching up with have just increased the distance between them and us. Also rather than speeding up we have slowed down.

A top 10 finish next season looks more than likely.

Ramsey9090

1.) 25 Jun 2022 08:15:32
Calm down, signing players does not automatically equal an improvement in a team.

Some times the players signed don't work out.

Some times the players signed actually cause problems and make things worse.

Some times regardless of signings things go sideways for a team during the season.

We don't know if any of our rivals are actually better on the pitch, and we won't until they start playing games.

Whose to say that Tuchel and Conte will still be in a job come May? To be honest the only two managers I'd guarantee will still be in charge of their clubs come the end of the season are Klopp and Pep. Everyone else including EtH could viably get sacked before the end of the season.

We have a new manager and a new direction, that alone means we have improved more than anyone else already.

2.) 25 Jun 2022 08:38:32
I wouldn't say that we have improved more than anyone shappy.
A team with a style of play that players have bought into and are surely further ahead than a team who's new manager doesn't know if his players can do what he wants or if they will just throw him under the bus at the first opportunity.
I'd also say we are the worse ran club in the league which also puts the so called improvement into question.
Regarding new signings I can't see many coming in if we can't move some on.
This team has no connection to the fans I think eth is up against it and wouldn't surprise me if he walked by January.

3.) 25 Jun 2022 09:34:38
Shappy you are right that it doesn't instantly improve but we don't have a squad.

Pogba, lingard, mata, matic, grant, hendo, cavani, greenwood all gone

Look at the midfield, it is average, then we have 1 striker in ronaldo

Some of the players left simply are not good enough. It will be hard to sell the likes of telles, awb jones, bailly and tunz.

Maybe a few of the youth can come in like garnarcho and hanibal.

But if we want to compete and ultimatly the aim for the glazers will be getting into the UCL as for them money matters.

We needed to strenthern and agree deals early on.

I get you can't go make 7 or 8 signings but we need to start pushing now for players in this next week

Already taking a dump on ten hag.

4.) 25 Jun 2022 09:56:28
Tom, Liverpool have signed Nunez and sold Mane. In time that might be an improvement, but we don't know. They've seen a key player leave and a big money signing come in. For them to improve by 10% they'll need to get 101 points this season. I doubt that will happen so have they improved much?

City have signed Haaland and Philips, they might get Cucurella. They have sold Jesus, while both Sterling and Bernardo Silva could also leave. They'll need 102 points to improve by 10%, again this is unlikely.

I expect City and Liverpool to achieve between 90-95 points this season, meaning they have stay around the same.

If Chelsea improve by 10% they'll have 81 points, Spurs 78. Possible, likely? Who knows.

United got 58 points last season, a 10% increase (if we round up) takes us to 64 points. I'd be stunned if we didn't manage that. 70 points should be achievable with this squad with good coaching, and a change in attitude without any additional signings.

That would be an increase of 20%. Meaning that if EtH is as good as we hope he is we will have improved by a greater amount than anyone else without a single signing.

If we make a few key signings to the first 11 then maybe we can get 75-80 points. That'd be a 25-30% improvement on last season.

People see shiny new names signing for other clubs and believe they will transform those teams into something amazing. Maybe they will, most won't though.

Surely the 1.4bn we have spent over the past 10 years proves that simply spending money does not improve a side. There are many factors.

I just think people need to keep their knickers untwisted and just wait for the start of the season.

5.) 25 Jun 2022 09:59:08
To say that signings won’t automatically improve a team is nonsense. Especially one in our position where the players we have are simply NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

6.) 25 Jun 2022 10:06:25
Bolger, timings of signings are an interesting point.

What is it do you think that EtH can coach into his players this week that he can't in two weeks time?

Do you think if FDJ comes in tomorrow he'll be a better player for us this season than if he joins in two weeks time?

Do you think the extra two weeks training with the squad will make a huge difference?

The signing takes as long as it takes. Would you rather wait a few extra weeks to secure our first choice signing, or give up on them to sign our 2nd or 3rd choice now?

Surely making sure the right signings are made is more important than just signing someone because we can get the deal done early.

I don't think the timings make a huge difference in the grand scheme of things.

However, I'm almost certain that if United made 6 signings early on in the window there would still be United fans disappointed that we didn't make a deadline day signing.

I think fans just like seeing shiny new players, like spoilt kids at Christmas, they discard the last present as soon as they see the next one, and no matter how many they get it's never enough.

7.) 25 Jun 2022 10:34:09
Fireman, the players we have who aren't good enough and didn't improve the team cost over 1bn.

That is proof enough to say that signings won't automatically improve a side.

Did the 89m we spent on Pogba make us a much better side?

What about the 75m we spent on Lukaku?

Or the 68m we spent on Di Maria?

Or the 85m we spent on Maguire?

Or the 50m we spent on AWB?

Last summer we signed Sancho for 75m, we went from securing 74 points to 58.

So don't tell me the singings AUTOMATICALLY improve a side, they don't and we are the shining example of that.

8.) 25 Jun 2022 11:06:02
For me shappy, the early the players were brought in the better planning he has, then he can focus on other aspects of his job.

They fly out soon and he is likely to have maybe 1 player if we can get de jong done before the 30th.

I have no doubt we will see a better united because ten hag won't take no crap and tbg even 5 percent extra effort than last season will be better

I am even after all the negative posts I've wrote actually looking forward to the season.

We don't want to be on tour and already in pre season having still not got the squad he wants to go into the 1st game of the season in.

Lets hope we get some good news in the next few days.

9.) 25 Jun 2022 11:23:08
Bolger, EtH will be focusing on the other aspects of his job. He'll have little or nothing to do with actually getting a signing across the line. He cannot draw up contracts, thrash out financial structure of deals, release funds, or anything else. His role will be restricted to do you want his player or that player. To which he says yes or no.

While it would be better if any signed players can head out on tour they can join halfway through the tour, or wait until we get back.

We have one game in Thailand against Liverpool, then play three games in Australia against Melbourne Victory, Crystal Palace and Villa. The final two games of the tour will be in Oslo and at Old Trafford.

I'd imagine the first few games will be more about building up fitness than actually implementing a new style.

It won't be the end of the world if new signings miss a few pre-season games.

It's far more important we get the right players through the door, no matter when that is.

10.) 25 Jun 2022 14:06:23
Agree get the right players, but he will want to implement his style from the get go gives him an idea of who needs replacing also and who can cut it.

11.) 25 Jun 2022 14:20:31
We had one of the worst ever seasons.
Playing style is sh1t.
8 players left the club.
Pre-season training starts in 2 days.
And we have given the new manager 0 backing so far.

We have incompetent people in charge.
As simple as that.

12.) 25 Jun 2022 15:14:58
To be fair shappy I'm not arsed if utd sign players or not. Hopefully ten hag gets the best from this group. I'm excited to see if hanibal or garner step up, intrigued if he can get a tune out of rashford and sancho who are both good players but for what ever reason haven't shown what they are capable of.
All I'm saying is to say we are most improved is just ridiculous. Like I say this group of players have lost the fans with their constant moaning and attitude next season so eth will be up against it.
I fully back the manager and hope he can get us playing lije his ajax teams.

27 Aug 2021 16:13:38
I am so so excited about this happening! Can't believe that we're suddenly so close to bringing back CR7! Until yesterday it was all about City.

Though I'm hearing about Cavani's Exit. Would rather be Martial's exit tbh.

Ramsey9090

1.) 27 Aug 2021 16:52:32
CR7 being back is really something else.
Happy to see the club show ambition and us signing the best striker in the world.
Cavani can still stay, would be sad to see him leave
Finally, we do need a midfield players and I really hope we knock some sense and get a Neves or camavinga.

{Ed077's Note - or Bissouma or Ndidi or Saul. Liked I said the other day, there are so many good midfielder we could look to bring in who would improve our midfield. And I've not even mentioned the likes of Merino, Koopmeiners, Fabian Ruiz, etc...

27 Aug 2021 06:57:37
I had a sleepless night. honestly. the first time I read about Ronaldo's agent pushing for a move to Man City. and now it's almost a done deal.

People might say that he has every right to play for whom he wants. and that is right, but there's a certain loyalty that isn't there with today's players. see Scholes, Gerrard, Totti, those who would never join a rival. but because of the money in today's game all the loyalty has gone out the window.

Now Messi and Ronaldo instead of playing El Classico will play the Oil Classico in the Champions league. disappointing.

Ramsey9090

1.) 27 Aug 2021 08:15:29
Wow a sleepless night over a football team. Hope you never have real worries.

2.) 27 Aug 2021 08:21:35
it has nothing to do with money and everything to do with his ambition to be the best player in the world. he said he wanted to be the greatest of all time. which means winning more trophies at the top clubs. none of the other top clubs want him so does he stay at Juventus and win nothing or come to city, annoy the utd faithful but win several more trophies and cement his place in the history books.

3.) 27 Aug 2021 08:40:50
Rumour has it that Mendes approached United first but United turned them down. If that turns out to be true does that change your opinion?

Remember both Law and Schmeichel played for City yet we still consider them legends at this club.

4.) 27 Aug 2021 09:16:47
If we were a proper club and got ronaldo back, the shirt sales easily would have covered up a lot of the money.
If you get ronaldo or messi you make space doesn't matter who gets sold or goes to the bench.
Ronaldo will play till 40s, he's super super fit.

{Ed002's Note - Manchester United don't get the money from the shirt sales.}

5.) 27 Aug 2021 09:27:12
Ed002 I think you may have mentioned that before🤣🤣
It takes a while to sink in.

6.) 27 Aug 2021 09:27:53
Maybe if they hadn’t signed Sancho they would have at least entertained it? An attacking midfielder hadn’t been on anyone’s minds for the past month.

7.) 27 Aug 2021 09:52:35
Ronaldo was never a part of our plans, we would be he most pathetic club in the world if we attempted to sign Ronaldo just because Man City were interested.

No body burns effigies of Law or Schmeichel because they played for City. Law even scored the goal against us that effectively relegated us. Still the man's a legend, and rightly so.

If Ronaldo joins City then that does not erase everything he did for us.

I doubt Viva Ronaldo would be sung in the Stretford end the next time he played at Old Trafford, and while he is at City I doubt many United fans would talk too fondly of him.

Yet in time his spell at City will likely be forgotten by most United fans.

8.) 27 Aug 2021 10:26:08
Shappy I don't agree people bringing up law Schmeichel and Cole the circumstances were so different with those united and city weren't rivals with any of those deals we are now. Schmeichel and Cole wouldn't have benefitted united and law left because he was too good for the team we were at the time. The closest thing to this is tevez but again not the same as tevez eventually turned us down we haven't even made an offer to Ronaldo.

As for not considering Ronaldo do we not need a striker? We're definitely short there, martial doesn't fit the squad or put the effort in to try and fit, Greenwood is young, and it looks like cavani is going to spend half the season in quarantine unless something changes.

For me we should be in for him he guarantees goals and the boost to the dressing room would be massive imagine being in the dressing room as he goes to city!

9.) 27 Aug 2021 10:29:15
I agree, Shappy. I never once saw Ronaldo's name mentioned on here as a hoped-for signing this summer. Well, maybe Fresh did 😁 Now, it's like we absolutely must have him, even though it would blow out of the water any other plans the club have for a midfield signing. A position where we really do need to sign someone. Just because it's City.

10.) 27 Aug 2021 10:47:07
we was already relegated laws goal didn't send us down.

11.) 27 Aug 2021 10:48:30
I wonder how Ronaldo and Guardiola will work? Could be similar to Mourinho and Pogba. Not all transfers work out despite the obvious talents of all parties. There has to be a reason Juventus are not concerned about letting Ronaldo go. Can anyone shed any light on this? Ronaldo is a big personality and ego and not sure Guardiola deals with these players well as he is the same. Maybe Ronaldo is on a sabotage mission hahaha.

12.) 27 Aug 2021 11:09:04
Law didn't leave because he was too good for United, exactly the opposite in fact, injury had blighted his final years at United and we gave him a free transfer, so he went back to City.
The relegation goal is a myth, we were relying on other results which didn't go our way, we we going down whether Law scored or not. It was his last goal in a meaningful game I think.

13.) 27 Aug 2021 11:19:49
Dbrooks, do we need a striker?

Cavani, Greenwood, Martial and Rashford can play as a striker well enough.

Do we need someone to replace Cavani MORE than we need someone to come in and replace McFred?
Or even someone to challenge and push AWB?

Even a week ago we didn't NEED Ronaldo, but now he might go to City suddenly he needs to be the priority. Ridiculous.

Bolger, I wasn't born but my understanding was that if we won against City and Stoke then we could still stay up, then Law scored the winning goal for City making it impossible for us to stay up. The game was even abandoned due to pitch invasions but the league said the result still stood.

14.) 27 Aug 2021 11:58:56
Southampton beat Everton Shappy which meant United were relegated regardless.

15.) 27 Aug 2021 12:13:59
In my opinion we do you don't think we do the way I see it,

Martial is awful and we might as well play with 10

Cavani looks like he's going to spend most his time in quarantine after international breaks

Greenwood is still only 19/ 20 and we can't put everything on his shoulders

Rashford will play from the left.

Last week we didn't need Ronaldo because no one was sure Ronaldo was actually available that's clearly changed.

16.) 27 Aug 2021 12:24:27
Romano said Mendes approached United first and there were talks but nothing came of it. If City are the only team putting an offer on the table, then why shouldn’t he accept? Yes, it sucks for us, but we have to look at the board again who are failing to keep up with the rivals.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if City are putting down the offer to play for New York after 2/3 seasons.

25 Aug 2021 04:57:19
Please tell me its not true that Cristiano is trying to Join Man City.

Ramsey9090

1.) 25 Aug 2021 06:02:20
He has been offered to city for a fee it seems. City are only interested if its a free transfer. Buy yes cristiano is open to a move there.

2.) 25 Aug 2021 07:58:35
So what? Fair play to him.

3.) 25 Aug 2021 08:46:39
come on ken fair play to him?

he joins city and he loses most of his love the united fans have for him.

its his choice where he plays but to some fans football is more than just a job, its a way of life.

a passion that goes far beyond just being a sport.

he joins city and he loses all my love for him regardless of what he done for us.

theres 2 clubs you don't join and that's city and liverpool.

personally i think he will end up at PSG or stay at juve for the rest of this year b4 moving to america

i don't see the logic in city getting him for the wages he would be on just for a season or 2.

4.) 25 Aug 2021 09:07:15
Bolger,

Do you honestly think he cares about your ‘love for him’? He left us in his peak, I’m surprised so many United fans still idolise him, if he cared as much as you think he wouldn’t have left in the first place.

5.) 25 Aug 2021 09:15:06
Dennis Law joined City and scored the goal that relegated us. He’s still a club legend.

If Cristiano wants to leave Juventus and wants to come back to the Premier League and City is the only option then what is he to do? If we aren’t interested then it’s on us, not him.

Plus, would you rather play for Pep and have a great chance to win the CL or for Ole and get forced to play out of position for no reason or be benched for Martial?

6.) 25 Aug 2021 09:29:21
gds2 he prob does care what fans think of him you can tell that by the way he is with fans, the way he acts and comes across.

i wouldn't say he left in his peak he left when he was 24 he hit his peak playing for madrid.

what i'm getting is that most fans will lose a bit of love they have for him some won't like yourself but more will than the few that wont.

7.) 25 Aug 2021 09:58:36
You get players and managers who are so ingrained in a club's history that it seems implausible that they could play for an immediate rival. Maybe in the past they indicate that they could never play for this or that club. But inevitably it happens. Figo, Campbell, Benitez.
I can't see it. City have spent an awful lot of money and could be about to bit a world record for a different player. And where does he slot in? Grealish took that spot.
Then there are the PSG rumours. It looks like they're about to come into some extra pocket money themselves, and I imagine that could instigate a move for Ronaldo or Pogba. But as mouth-watering as the thought of seeing Ronaldo and Messi lining up together is, could they play effectively together? Wouldn't it be more awkward than Salah and Mane, or Gascoigne and Doll, refusing to pass to each other or tee each other up? Plus their combined ages on those salaries suggests PSG would only get a few seasons max out of both. But they'd sell a few billion shirts to be fair. Whereas we'd have McFred, they'd have Messildo. I know which I'd prefer.

8.) 25 Aug 2021 10:34:05
for me players like law and schmeichel lost the legend status when they went to city.

think its an opinion that not i share.

9.) 25 Aug 2021 10:42:52
Ronaldo is ambitious and wants to be the best player in the world and painful as it is to admit it, City offer the best chance for him to win trophies and further boost his reputation as the best player in the world.

PSG are competing in 4 trophies - city in 6 if he wants to win another UCL and win more than Messi and potentially another ballon d'or then City is the logical choice.

personally i hope he goes to PSG as i don't want to see city win the UCL but it seems only a matter of time.

10.) 25 Aug 2021 10:47:39
Schmeichel is still a Legend. spending 1 season at City doesn't tarnish what he achieved for us in the 90s, well for me anyway.

maybe that's just me. but then they weren't a big team then. i think if Ronaldo won the UCL with City it would hurt but i'd still be happy with what he did for us and that i got to see him win trophies in a red shirt.

11.) 25 Aug 2021 11:53:41
He is an ex employee bolger no more than that just like John o shea.
I stop caring about any player once they leave or retire.
You are completely on your own in your judgement of law and big Pete.

20 Aug 2021 11:01:07
I remember reading on here some time ago that we need to reduce squad size before signing anyone. Now with Perreira most likely going to Flamengo, and maybe Diallo headed on loan as well, anyone we're still monitoring this window?

Ramsey9090

1.) 20 Aug 2021 11:10:42
I saw Romano say the club are monitoring several midfielders but nothing advanced as of yet. He has also just tweeted that Chelsea may be looking to move for Saul. If Lingard gets his move too, that's another space freed and there really shouldn't be any excuse not to get that much needed DM.

2.) 20 Aug 2021 11:33:24
Andreas Pereira leaving helps. Amad Diallo while needing regular game time would benefit from a loan doesn't make much of a difference in terms of our named 25 man squad as he is under 21 and doesn't have to be named in it.

In terms of reducing the squad before we can sign any players it is those players over the age of 21 that we need to move on.

Currently we have: DDG, Henderson, Heaton, Grant, AWB, Dalot, Varane, Maguire, Lindelof, Tuanzebe, Bailly, Jones, Shaw, Telles, Matic, McTominay, Fred, Donny, Pogba, Bruno, Andreas Pereira, Lingard, Mata, James, Sancho, Rashford, Martial and Cavani.

Which is 28 players who have to fit into a 25 man squad. Meaning at least 3 need to go. With 4 needing to leave before we can sign another player over the age of 21.

Tuanzebe and Andreas Pereira have already left on loan. Mean we need to trim at least one more to fit the 25 man squad, or 2 more if we are to sign another player.

Most likely of those left to leave would be Lingard, Jones, Dalot. Maybe Matic or Pogba.

I'd say Lingard is probably the only one I am really confident of leaving this summer. If Dalot goes as well then I'd expect a RB to come in as a replacement likely Trippier. I only see us signing a midfielder if one of Matic or Pogba leave.

Most of the players under 21 such as Mengi, Laird, Williams, Garner, Pellistri, Amad and Elanga probably need to head out on loan to get regular game time and continue their development.

3.) 20 Aug 2021 12:24:42
I think we usually only name three goalkeepers in the 25 man squad, Grant will probably miss out.

{Ed077's Note - also didnt Tuanzebe signed for Villa? }

4.) 20 Aug 2021 12:27:13
Wasn't Jones not registered last season? If it's the same case this year and Lingard leaves, there's the extra space.

5.) 20 Aug 2021 13:14:39
Wages are the problem. If Jones left that would certainly help. I'm rather hoping Roma are still interested in Static. Italy would be a suitable retirement home for him.

6.) 20 Aug 2021 13:17:40
How will big Phil ever pass a medical at another club. They will have to hire a lorry just to transport his medical history.

7.) 20 Aug 2021 14:43:49
GrimisnotDead, any club would be put off by the cost it would take to transport Jones safely without injuries. It's a lot easier transporting his medical history 😊.

8.) 20 Aug 2021 15:25:43
LPU, do we still have DHL as a partner, might need their expertise.

9.) 20 Aug 2021 15:31:01
You have to wonder whether he really wanted to hold on to the number 4 shirt because it reminds him how many painkillers he's allowed to take a day.

10.) 20 Aug 2021 17:38:32
LLV, the shirt number would only help if he ever got to wear it😂

Also I'd imagine he's on significantly more than 4 painkillers a day.

{Ed077's Note - these "jokes" are becoming tiresome now...}

11.) 21 Aug 2021 04:14:57
GrimisnotDead, yes we do. Although, DHL have confirmed they do not transport 'extremely fragile' packages 😊.

Hugo Ekitike to Newcastle is off, could be a shrewd signing seeing as we are trying to get players on the cheap.

Shappy whatever you're saying is 100% true and makes perfect sense. However, because of our approach over the last 10 years is why the building has become dilapidated.

Now, we May see a change in the approach going forward, but up to now there seems to be no change.

I'm afraid that if things just continue as they are, as we've seen with all the Post SAF managers, we'll be hearing Ten Hag needs to go by around Oct or Nov. Given the power of social media as well as the media itself, he may very well be gone by December. I really do wish that I'm wrong.

If they are planning to renovate the building, we should be able to see something a bit more than just clearing the ruble. If you bring down one wall surely you have to think of the materials needed to put up a better one asap. Failure to do that and you'll be living in a three-sided room until you can figure it out.
