As the emotion subsides let's remember we should never have got ourselves in the position we did, and it kindness sums up much of our season.
We looked good in spells, this time for the first half, and took a 2 goal lead. After the break, the intensity dropped, we were dominated and let them back in with 2 goals.
In extra time, we had a spare man yet conceded 2 more, only to show incredible fight and spirit to turn it around.
It was Lyon, at OT, we had an extra man, yet we made incredibly hard work of it. I really don't know what to make of it. We could win the thing playing like this which is mad, but I guess we would happily take it as it's a major trophy and ECL qualification.
I'm trying to remember the early 90's and if there was a light switch moment, because we need something to click right now.
So, I'm as delirious as everyone else, but let's remember we conceded 4 goals and still look all over the place.
{Ed025's Note - you are spot on AJH..

I'm still in shock! We were so bad at times but. bloody hell!

It was late 80s ajh mark robins.
Not sure why you feel the need to be a miserable sod but each to their own.

I hate the way we play, there is very little control and helter skelter. The end had me shouting and going nuts but i prefer some form of boring control of a game and winning without this kind of drama. Athletic is a good team and we cannot play like this against them.

I don't mean to be rude, but blah blah blah blah blah.
That match was exactly why I love football.
Screw the analysis, who cares? Just ride the emotion and appreciate the drama.
{Ed025's Note - it was certainly entertaining MM..

In 20 years I won't remember this season. I won't remember conceding 4 goals at home against Lyon. I won't remember all the ex players and fans slagging their own club to hell and back. In twenty years I will remember one of the most incredible games of football I've ever seen, I will remember the feeling when mags got the winner, I remember thousands of people going absolutely mental. What a night.
{Ed025's Note - i think your spot on Deano, do you think Liverpool supporters remember the pathetic performance in the first half against Milan in the 2005 CL cup final?...no they call it the "miracle of Istanbul" mate, its been very lean times of late at Old Trafford so these are nights that should be celebrated imo..

In a season like what we’re having, you need to be enjoying games like last night AJH.
Anyone with a pair of eyes can see that we collapsed in the second half but we scored more goals than the opposition!
Our system actually worked first half. Not sure what happened second but I read today that Mazraoui and Lindelof had to leave old Trafford for personal reasons?
Anyway, watch the highlights back and listen to the crowd when the 4th and 5th goes in.
That’s what it’s all about surely!

Spot on ed, history is kind to winners . In the poignant words of Dominic Torreto. " It doesn't matter if you win by an inch, or a mile. Winning is winning. " ??.
{Ed025's Note - exactly Deano..

The only way last night gets remembered is if we win Europa.
It was a great game but if we play like that against Athletic or Spurs we’ll get beat.

Absolute nonsense utd road.
Look at poll of united supporters picked as the best games ever at old Trafford.
We only won 3 of the 8 comps featured in the top 10 .
People remember great games and atmospheres even if they don't go on to win the comp.
I would say the win will count for nothing unless we win the comp but it will be remembered for generations.
18 Apr 2025 14:40:57
Not to be to Keane like but it was a quarter final in the europa league.
It was a good game but counts for nothing if there’s no cup at the end. Sorry to be the voice of realism.

Duh, read my post, 'I'm as delirious as everyone else'. Amazing game and comeback.
But it doesn't make us any less crap.
Amorim is the nan, he has a system, we just need better players. We shall see.

Ahmad,
That’s a very interesting take, if we had won 3-0 yesterday I doubt I would have been walking around Manchester today and hearing people still singing United songs and still wearing their scarves, I’ve no idea how you would rather win a game easy than win a game like last night, that makes zero sense to me.
Last night is what football is all about, last minute winners, snatching victory from the jaws of the season being over, living to fight another day, I don’t know how people that don’t like sport ever get that buzz. I was lucky to be there and I never leave early, it was spectacular, people I’ve sat around for years and never really spoken to were hugging me, I think I must have hugged about 100 people, it’s what football is about and I’d rather that every day of the week than a boring 3-0 win.

That 99 final was a shocking night too gds2 furious I was.
18 Apr 2025 22:48:01
Haha yes Bayern should have won, if I was in charge I’d have given the trophy back, didn’t deserve it at all.
19 Apr 2025 10:14:49
Just read your post again AJH, when is the emotion meant to subside? It hasn’t for me yet. I live 20 minutes from the stadium and last night (early hours of Saturday) people were singing United songs in the street! It’s stirred something in everyone.

Dear me, Utd road
the 1984 home game against Maradona’s Barcelona was one of the greatest Old Trafford nights, yet we didn’t win the cup. Yes frustrated that we didn’t go on, but I will never forget that night stood in the Stretford End. Thursday will be similar. I still get that tingle of excitement 41 years later when I see the replay of Stapleton scoring. Same will go for Harry.
19 Apr 2025 12:32:34
The last time I felt that sort of excitement watching Utd was when we beat PSG on their home turf under Ole. A night when no-one gave us a chance.
Didn't go on and win the thing, but memories like that are why you follow a football team from childhood.
Here's to many, many more of them.
