So out here in Portugal, the authorities have more or less closed everything. People are being told to stay at home. This is fair and sound advise. However, in order to keep people entertained I think the authorities in Europe as a whole (Italy apart) should have allowed the national league games to be played behind closed doors. The world cannot just stop, otherwise the same will happen in a few month's time.
But if our sportsmen are allowed to play football or do other sports all be it behind closed doors, then at least it will give the nation something to watch on tv. Televised sports in the UK is an amazing pastime and has millions of followers, so with care and organisation, I don't see why the games cannot be played behind closed doors and for them all to be televised.
{Ed004's Note - For a game to go again you need television crews, transport teams, maintenance workers, ball boys etc. All these people would have to be put at risk to keep a few people entertained. Then theres the footballers themselves. Why is it fair to risk their safety? But I think probably the biggest factor is for a game to go ahead you need police and ambulance crews on service. They will be required for the general population. We cant afford to have them sitting idle for hrs. I miss football as much as the next person but I feel like we have seen the end of the football season for the foreseeable}

It's not ideal, but its what needs to be done. People don't realise the sheer number of people needed to broadcast a game. Plus the strain it puts on the emergency services which isn't really acceptable given the situation. When medical professionals are standing by at a football match people are dying due to there not being enough medical staff/ provisions.
Ed004 is on the money here. Get Netflix and count yourself lucky that you're not one of the vulnerable people who this might prove fatal for.

i have just seen that players are being tested twice a day for the virus. i find that horrendus when ordinary people with sympoms are not tested and told to stay home and self isolate. it is starting to make me think why pay money to watch these over paid premadonas who are no different than you or i.
{Ed002's Note - No, they are being looked at for the symptoms twice a day. If they exhibit the symptoms then they are more likely to be tested.}

They work for organisations that have dedicated medical departments. Of course they are going to be checked on for symptoms of a rapidly spreading virus more than someone who doesn't work for an organisation with a dedicated medical department.

I understand that ed047, but at the same time we have Castleford and St Helens playing in a stadium full to the brim with fans. Cheltenham Vestival with thousands of fans every day, programmes like Ant&Dec with full audiences. So how are the decisions being made?
And now, you have people crammed inside supermarkets and emptying shelves of everything. Idiots.
But in the UK we've always risen to any challenge and made sure everyone's spirits remain high. It happened in the wars where actors, singers, entertainers risked their lives to ensure the lives of others was made better.
Closing the country down is not the answer.
{Ed004's Note - Those other events should have been cancelled as well imo. Not sure what the solution is for the panic buying but measures should be in place there as well. I just cant see any situation where it's fair or possible to have the season ongoing while this catastrophe is ongoing}

We are in the middle of a global pandemic that is expected to kill a lot more people.
What kind of brain dead morons are going to these events as though its business as usual?
For old people like my mum of 78 catching this disease is like a death sentance. I have told my mother to treat this virus like it is ebola or the plague and act accordingly.
People need to wake up and start taking this seriously NOW!

The season is over man, Ligue 1 and Serie A already in talks to cancel season.
I think the fairest thing to do is cancel season and start season the same as this season with everyone keeping same cup places etc.
I know it's unfair on the lower leagues, teams fighting for promotion and lower leagues losing out on money. At times like this the FA needs to take the right course of action.
Cancell full season.
Postpone euro 2020 for a year and hopefully everything has gone for new season to start because its only going to get worse in April and May.

This is an unprecedented situation. There are so many issues arising and the landscape seems to shift hourly.
There is health and economic situations arising that nobody could have had contingency plans for.
There are some tough and worrying times ahead for everybody in the short term.
With the right discipline and practises its possible that the world health and economic fallout is minimised.
Its often said that you can tell a lot about peoples character in times of adversity. Now is the time for all people to up their moral radars. To be more tolerant more caring more vigilant.

I'm in the middle of my self isolation and tbh it's been cathartic, I've read a couple of books got some bits and Bob's done around the house and generally have been very comfortable, my niece (an elderly care nurse) on the other hand has been pretty much working non stop for the last fortnight along with her colleagues, pretty much the same up and down the country so I realise how lucky some of us are.
Football is a sport, an entertainment it isn't important imo in the situation we find ourselves in, I could care less when the season starts up again or if liverpool win a title, its fluff we have much, much bigger fish to fry.

Noucamp stevie or whatever, no I'm not bored but I was questioning the decision making when some events are ongoing while others aren't. Also, tgevfact that our country in adversity, always carried on.
If it makes you feel better, I have actually set up a group over here to deliver food parcels to the old people who have been told to self isolate. So please stop being so critical all the time, its rude and tiresome.
