Guys, Liverpool fan in peace

Tell ya what, that was a proper Cup tie that! Great game, for the neutrals and Utd fans lol, gutted to have lost as we had chances but hey, that's a Cup tie isn't it.

One thing I'll say is that kid Mainoo looks a cracker for you, had a great game to his credit

Spurs and Villa too look like they are actually trying to give up points in the places above you too, and you get Coventry then in the draw - good weekend for Utd in in all!

Serious question lads, would you keep ETH next season? I mean, say you win the FA Cup and finish 4th, would that be a successful enough season? Especially given the ownership issues you have had?

I would like to see him given a chance to see what he can do without all the chaos above him and with people upstairs who actually know what they are doing regarding player recruitment.
Less injuries would help too as you know yourselves.

Morning Bill! Great game, I think this has been the best quarter finals in FA Cup History. Last minute winner for us, the Coventry game was a great and Chelsea also snatched it in the last.

Being from Coventry and following their games, they aren't a team I am taking for granted. They can score goals and we don't look the best at the back. Their following is also unbelievable so fully expect their fans to be the 12th man at Wembley!

As for ETH, I personally want to see him given another year or two with the correct structure in place. I think he is a good coach and his record at Ajax and with us last season proved that, its not been down to luck. He has the highest win percentage of any previous manager since Ferguson and had a good first season. If he struggles to improve the team under a clear play style and the right recruitment then I would agree to move him on. It seems like we are going to be pushing towards younger players in the transfer market and I think ETH has shown his ability to coach and progress younger players. Mainoo, Garnacho and Hojlund all being prime examples of players who have improved under him .

There have been posters question his leadership capabilities which I personally haven't seen any issues with. He has made big decisions when needed too. Looking at the Ronaldo, Sancho and various Rashford situations, he has handled them well. There are issues at the club that run deeper than the manager and he is handling them the best he can.

Its always the same fans throwing the manager under the bus when the going gets a little tough. They want results here and now and don't look at the bigger picture. I liken our situation to Klopp and Arteta. Both took 2-3 years to settle in the Premier League and build a team - both had worst starts than ETH. They were given time and look at what they are achieving.

There is a lot of noise on this page about how ETH should be replaced, but I am yet to see a valid argument by the same fans on who is realistically available to replace him and would be an improvement. There are circa 11 players I would move on before I even looked to move ETH on.

All the best for the rest of the season. It will be interesting to see who Liverpool replace Klopp with.

3.) 18 Mar 2024 09:08:05
I've always said ETH needs 1 more season under a better regime and still think that. But I'm even more convinced after yesterday because players at United since SAF left have been guilty of downing tools, not playing for the manager, yesterday they did not look like a team that weren't prepared to play for the manager.

4.) 18 Mar 2024 09:12:09
Good man Bill. Great game and you are right, the youngster Mainoo is something.

For obvious reasons I hope you lose all your remaining games till end of the season though lol.

5.) 18 Mar 2024 09:19:58
Morning Bill
I’d keep him for another season and see what he can do under a proper management structure.

There’s a few interesting people available but all unproven.

I’m not sure there’s a better choice out there.

6.) 18 Mar 2024 11:16:39
Hi Bill.
No I wouldn't.
Great game yesterday and a great victory. Eth did well yesterday buy 1 game and a good run in would not change my opinion.
I don't want to take anything from yesterday and mention any negative today as it would be churlish imo.
Everybody united wise should just be enjoying the win and thankfully our season is still alive.

7.) 18 Mar 2024 11:29:17
I think the opening 15 mins was the best I've seen all season from Utd, at least in terms of a style. You can see what the boss is trying to do and wonder at the possibility of how it could be with a couple of upgrades in the first XI.
Slowly lost control throughout the first half and duly punished, and probably should have gone further behind in the second half.
But what resilience to end up winning and nice to have a smile on my face after watching them. Too often our wins this season have felt a little flat or 'lucky' but could definitely see some shoots of growth.

8.) 18 Mar 2024 12:54:22
lol Unruly, I get that - my whole family are Utd and it was tough from the 90s onwards haha

With ETH, I get the 2 sides of the argument -
1. not sure what style he has implemented so far / have players genuinely improved? / has he spent well? He has spent quite a bit
2. lot of uncertainty around the club / owners are toxic - I remember Hicks and Gillette for us, pure awful / dressing room issues with a couple of players?

Think you got to ask though how would he do now the ownership looks better etc - perhaps give him next season and see how he does? Although does a good result against your rivals gloss over other performances? Honestly tough to judge the guy, be interesting if you make (or even win) the final and perhaps make top 4 though.

For the match, you started really well - we were poor and not sure why Bradley didn't start but credit you started well. Rest of the match was a typical Cup tie though wasn't it, cheers and groans from both sets of fans but a cracking game for neutrals.

Good post Bill, fair summary.

On ETH, I think he's already done enough to earn a season under a better structure, but it's become clear he won't get that.

As I keep saying, people easily forget where we were when he took over, and the dire off-field issues he's had to work through.

Season 1: League cup win, FA cup final, Europa semi-final, CL qualification
Season 2: FA cup final (likely)? CL qualification (hopeful)?

This after finishing 6th and standards dropping to levels not seen for 30+ years.

Guys, Liverpool fan in peace, (sounds weird I know! ) - Marcus Rashford getting an MBE for what he's done with vulnerable children is just immense, the guy seems so humble and deserves every accolade for his work off the pitch in this important area. Great guy 👏👏.

Bill

{Ed007's Note - Aye, he's a real hero for the poor downtrodden commoners taking anything off that auld cow 🤢🤢 Maybe a nice picture opportunity with Prince Andrew will be next for Marcus?}

1.) 10 Oct 2020 21:57:09
Well said Bill.

Bond are you drunk?

{Ed007's Note - No, are you?}

2.) 10 Oct 2020 22:04:40
Should tell them to stick that where the sun doesn't shine.

{Ed007's Note - 👍👍

Possibly an unpopular view but they seem to give them awards out to any Tom, Dick or Harry these days and the recipients get younger and younger -often given out as a knee jerk reaction too. He has said he will keep doing it so an award when he retires at 33-35 years old would have been fitting in my mind - But he is a decent lad who has done more than most these last couple years and i'm pleased he has been recognised, and pleased he has praised his Mum so much too.

Mount a good player but Chelsea are apparently looking 70m and he wants much more than the 250k a week Chelsea have offered him - costs seem very high for a player about to enter the last year of his contract though do they not?

What should happen would be similar to what happened Juventus some time ago - stripped of titles and relegated several leagues

That would set a strict precedent for the consequences of blatantly cheating, but it will probably be a slap on the wrist and a fine

If no strict punitive process is taken, then what stops other clubs doing the same? Rich states take over, spend what they want and illegally inflate their sponsorship deals to cover the big spending, win loads and pay a small fine then which invariably would be peanuts compared to the money brought in from winning a pile of trophies.

Bill

{Ed001's Note - do you spell fine b r i b e by any chance?}

In fairness to ETH it wasn't his fault Maguire wouldn't join West Ham, fee was agreed etc between both clubs, it was purely down to Maguire that the transfer never happened.

Awk Mumbles that did happen alright - Arsenal had apologies from the PGMOL which represented 5 points lost - they lost the league by a 5 points

Everton had an apology following the Rodri handball. City got 3 points instead of 1 and won the league over Liverpool by a point

In terms of a replay - can't and shouldn't happen, everybody will want a replay if things don't go their way in a game - Klopp in fairness said that

The Spurs/ Liverpool match was just a whole host of abysmal decisions:
- The goal - been covered already so much
- Jones red card - if the ref had gave a red most would have accepted it tbh, but he gave a yellow, VAR sent him to the screen but there wasn't the usual replays shown of multiple angles, instead it was a still showing the worst part of the contact - very strange
- Jota red card - got a yellow first of all for the fella falling over? The 2nd, yeah made no contact but on a yellow and you throw yourself in like that? Very stupid.
- The guy that tripped over gestured at the ref to book Jota - is that not a bookable offence? He was actually on a yellow too so should have been sent off - then it would have been 10 v 10

Awk loads of incidents in that one match were an issue but every team, apart from City weirdly, are screwed over every week. VAR was brought in to help officials when they have missed something or made a mistake, instead it is being used to back up those wrong decisions and Dermot Gallagher stands up each week and explains why, according to the rules, the correct decision was made. The following week though when an identical decision happens and a different call given, it too, bizarrely, was the correct decision.

The focus is just on Liverpool and it really shouldn't be - when are people going to hold the refs accountable? The PGMOL have made 14 apologies already for 'errors' - that's 2 every game week and what, that's it? No plan in place to fix these 'errors' and stop them from happening again?

And they are major issues that are being discussed such as the Spurs game, the Wolves game etc, etc but what about other issues? I really hate offsides - how does it take 5 mins to work out if someone is offside?

They draw minute lines to see if a big toes is off? 5 mins later we get an answer? Surely just one still, in line when the ball was played would be enough? If he's on or off it should be obvious - if it needs these precise lines etc to determine a big toe is off then it is hardly clear or obvious is it and the benefit goes to the attacker - simples and what 10 seconds or so?

The VAR and officiating is just sucking the life out of the game. It has gotten to the point nobody knows whether to celebrate a goal or not. Is it a penalty? Is it a handball? Who knows anymore, what's given one week isn't even looked at the next week so honestly nobody has a clue anymore - it's wild.

Shappy, i'm a Liverpool fan and that's not a bad posting

Critics will claim ETH has spent a lot - he has yes, but the spending seems to be how the board/ owners have placated fans for years. If they are seen to be spending big and competing for in demand players then the fans have hope. Some of these have worked out, some haven't - he has got rid of a few too, though not his fault Maguire would not move it must be said

Meanwhile, the owners have continued to run your club just into the ground. The stadium, training facilities etc have just been plain neglected as they seek to make their money

That point, I will add, is not necessarily the blame of the board per se. Whilst criticisms always go to the board, they are merely tools used by the owners to obtain their 'needs', usually how much money to be made type thing - and these 'needs' are expressed at the beginning of each financial year and the board are charged with achieving them

It is these 'needs' set that are the issue - if the board do not deliver, they will be replaced by those who will.

Your issues Shappy is the owners, plain and simple - and look no joke, I read these pages and know in how little regard the Glazers are here

ETH has done well enough within these confines tbh. An issue in your team seems to lie with the dressing room, well certain individuals within it - Ronaldo was causing issues, he's gone.

Greenwood would have been another issue, the board/ owners managed that poorly but he's gone. Sancho seems another one and I'm honestly not sure about Bruno - was always in Ronaldo's corner no matter what and so petulant on the field but the boy has talent

I think ETH will do well but needs time to meld the team to his and get rid of those players - you guys know the names better than me - who simply should not play for your team and the most important thing to happen will be when the Glazers finally go.
