Mbuemo bid rejected. £62.5m offer and Brentford said no.
I don't understand transfers, why don't they get in a room and negotiate the deal and then say yes or no in the room? Why waste weeks thinking about it, go back with an offer for them say no a second time?
Waste of time.
{Ed007's Note - It's called negotiating and probably is best done electronically so there is trail to keep any skullduggery out the equation, millionaire's negotiating million £ deals in person could get very dodgy.
But the surprising thing is that no matter what transfer - anywhere in the world it is - they still find the time to let a certain few ITK's know every single step of the process for their social medias - it's almost as if they just make stuff up and then delete the tweets. ?

Brentford supposedly want the same fee as cunha or even slightly more. That second bid is £55m guaranteed with adds ons. Depends on the add ons but obviously Brentford not happy with them. I’d say they want £60m + guaranteed. Not much of a difference but probably take us another 4 weeks to get there lol.

You either offer what they want or walk away and move into the next target. They have had a few weeks to sort it, what’s the problem.

Completely new backroom staff and we’re still embarrassingly sluggish at this lark.

I think he only has a year left on his contract. I know we don't want a repeat of last season but maybe we should ask him to keep the faith and sign him next year for free with a substantial signing on fee?
28 Jun 2025 01:17:15
Arty Stan, he has a year with an option for the club to extend by a year so essentially be has 2 years left on his contract for the purpose of negotiations.

Fallguy, it's not that simple. These are big sums of money, and there are several parties involved. United don't want any more deals done in or out until 1st july.
Timing is crucial. Player sales are also needed and I'm sure we will see a lot of activity over the next 2 weeks both in and out.
From what I've read and listened to its not now about the sum offered i ts about making the add ons more achievable and a shorter payment structure. That will be resolved but will be dependent on what terms we can negotiate for our exits so the books balance every year.
A lot of intertwined and complex deals that are all independent but reliant on each other.
For example if we spend too much before we sell and rasford sancho and casimero hold the club to their contracts and don't move then we are in the world of trouble.
We could see in terms of the 1st team squad as many as 10 out and 5 in. It's a very fine balancing act and really difficult to get everything done. 3 outs done easy out of contract. Malacia Garnacho rashford sancho Anthony bayindir casimero are all in the 90% + category to leave and none of those deals will be easy to complete.
I've no doubt that the club are stalling due to timing and getting all aligned is super difficult.

It’s tough to lose a player like Mbuemo, but constantly caving to pressure only sets a precedent—one that says your club can be pushed around. If the valuation is fair, then hold the line. Walk away if you have to. That sends a clear message: we know what our assets are worth, and we won’t be bullied.
Other clubs learn fast. If they see you stand firm once or twice, the lowballing and squeezing stops. It’s painful in the short term, but it’s how you build long-term respect in the market.

Time to walk away. In all of his other seasons, he's performed roughly at the same level as his xG, which is under 10 goals a season.
This season, he's scored 8 goals above his xG, it doesn't guarantee he will repeat his efforts. We should stop overpaying for players who have one good season.

It's not that complex, these things take time, the problem is we have an entire branch of the media dedicated to discussing transfers. Trying to give a blow by blow account (which of course they aren't actually privy to) . They need to fill the gaps in the time so often just make things up.
In the case of Mbeumo it's just a matter of time. He has one year left on his contract, so Brentford can either sell him this summer or lose him for free next summer (given their savvy transfer dealings I doubt they will let him leave for nothing) .
Mbeumo is Brentford's best and most important player, as such they want to get the best deal they can for him as they will need to buy a replacement and they will also likely have to pay more for that replacement as the selling club will know they have a big fee from United for Mbeumo burning a hole in Brentford's pocket.
That is why Brentford are trying to get a bidding war going for Mbeumo, they know they are at a disadvantage as he only has a year left on his deal. So the only way to get a higher fee is if there is competition for his signature.
Mbeumo has reportedly stated he is only interested in a move to United. That is probably something that has been agreed between United and his agent to put pressure on Brentford to get the deal done sooner and at a lower fee.
United could choose to wait this out, the closer we get to deadline day the more likely Brentford accept a lower fee to avoid losing him for nothing next summer. However, it doesn't seem like that is something United want to do. While they know they will have to pay more to get the deal done sooner, that is something they seem willing to accept despite the tricky financial position. The only advantage of getting the deal done sooner is that it gives him more time to settle and work with the manager to make sure he hits the ground running and United start the season well. It seems that with this deal at least United are putting football success on the pitch above saving a few million.
This deal will be done and likely finalised in the next week or so. I'd expect Mbeumo to be present on the first day back for pre-season.
My advice for United fans, is largely ignore all the transfer gossip and "blow by blow" accounts. Especially if it's going to stress you out or cause you frustration. What will be will be, whether you know about it beforehand or not and regardless of whether you stress about it or not. So why bother letting it raise your blood pressure.

Totally agree Shappy but it's likely a case of clubs knowing then can get a bit more out us. We probably should have settled Mbeumo first then signed Cunha. Brentford wouldn't have that power over us that they now have.
28 Jun 2025 10:48:59
Stan, maybe, but I'm not sure that would be worth it. Cunha was a deal that we could wrap up quickly and move on from giving us time to work on the many deals we have to sort both in and out of the club this summer.
Mbeumo was likely to be dragged out by Brentford regardless. Maybe we might have saved a few million, or got slightly more favourable terms on when the money is paid. But then we would have lost time on being able to negotiate other deals. Likewise, if we signed Mbeumo first then Wolves would have had grounds to demand better terms on the Cunha deal. While he had a set release fee, they typically have to paid all up front. United agreed a deal with Wolves to have a payment structure spread over several years.
It could have been a case where we save a few million on Mbeumo, but end up worse off having to pay out 10-20m more this summer to get Cunha rather than it being spread out more.
The total fee paid is probably less important to us this summer than the terms of when we have to make the payments and how big those payments are. Given our current financial position cashflow is the thing that will make or break our transfer window.

I'm with Kurtis, he had a great season, but that's his only great season, his stats last year are freaky. It's a lot of money for 1 great season.
28 Jun 2025 15:17:14
He also has two good seasons before, and you also have to take into account that he is just getting into his best footballing years.
28 Jun 2025 16:48:12
Ajh for a person that promotes hating the club i'm surprised you care either way.
28 Jun 2025 17:12:59
Ken ?
Is there not an empty room you can go start an argument in?
29 Jun 2025 10:59:31
AJH, last season was a standout season for him without a doubt, but he has been excellent for Brentford for several years now.
He massively over achieved against his xG last season, which he is unlikely to do so to the same extent again. However, the best players tend to outperform their xG on a consistent basis. Maybe he benefitted from Toney leaving and relished the responsibility of being the main man. Stepping up and taking shots with lower xG values and actually scoring from them.
He's a player who is EPL proven, has consistently got 15+ goals and assists over the last few seasons in the EPL. Personally I'd say only Salah and Saka have been better players from the RW over the past three years in the EPL.
Yes it's a lot of money, especially given he has one year left on his deal (although Brentford have one year option they can trigger) . Yet around 60m for one of the top three players in the league in his position, as he starts to enter his peak years is probably a fair amount given the context of the market.
Chelsea are about to pay a similar amount for an unproven young English lad from Dortmund. A player with only 18 months of senior football under his belt and not a single minute of EPL football to his name.
If you were going to place £100 bet on which player will get the most goals and assists in the EPL next season between Mbeumo and Gittens I'd expect the majority of football fans wouldn't be backing the young Englishman.

Snappy you also bet United would finish above Chelsea, not sure your bets are trust worthy ?.
