So let's talk managers.

I've been going through the list and for me there should only be 2 candidates

Glasner and Xavi.

One brings discipline and tactical flexibility, the other is an icon of the game who would instantly boost morale with his presence alone and push towards the Barcelona ideals.

Glasner currently plays the same formation as us but successfully. However, he has played different formations at the clubs he has been at. He plays the formation and system that suits the players he has, instead of being plan A or bust.

He is prem proven, unbeaten this season and wins trophies against the odds.

Downside: he's pragmatic which might not be considered the 'United way', if that means anything anymore.

Xavi meet Kobbie. There is no doubt in my mind that Xavi would make Kobbie the first player on his team sheet as he is the most Barcelona style midfielder in our team.

Martinez, Mazraoui, Yoro, Amad, Cunha, Zirkzee would all work well as technical profiles. After that though. who do you look to that would play his style. It might be another rebuild which we can't afford right now.

Long term his philosophy might work and we finally might play the attractive football that we all are hoping will return. Question is, can we take another risk?

What's everyone's thoughts who would you prefer?

Looking forward to replies to this.

1st off, they would be a "Coach", there is a difference, and 2nd we don't have a vacancy.

3.) 30 Sep 2025 15:56:01
Any manager that comes in may get some quick wins with a tweak to the system, but needs to make sure that they are able to ultimately get the team playing the system / way they want.

Glasner, would fit the direction we are currently going with probably a bit more flexibility/ pragmatism. He will still need new players in the same positions to really kick on.

Xavi, would likely go 433 (although I think he has played with 3 at the back previously as well. He would bring the Barcelona idea (alothough may take a while to get there) and Mainoo would be licking his lips at Xavi coming in and I coiuld see a lot of the yougsters being developed - Shea Lacey and the Fletcher boys spring to mind.

Southgate - No thanks.

4.) 30 Sep 2025 16:36:00
Xavi all day long, but from your list Martinez or Amad possibly Mazouri won’t get near a Xavi team, neither does Ugarte, Bruno does without doubt as does Cass, Mainoo, I reckon he would take the challenge too and commands immediate respect.
Glasner I think the personality does not lend itself to United and the constant pressure may also be a problem, it’s one thing leading palace to all the wins as underdog but when expected to win and huge ego’s and constant pressure may also I have concerns.
Xavi dealt with the biggest ego’s at Barcelona and was quite brilliant.

5.) 30 Sep 2025 16:54:36
One question - which system suits the players that we have? If anything did, it wouldn't be 12 years since the last PL trophy.

6.) 30 Sep 2025 17:01:02
I’m unconvinced by Xavi.

I’d sound out De Zerbi, Howe and Iraola first.

I like Glasner but I am beyond done with 3 at the back.
Palace with Wharton are a cheat code.

7.) 30 Sep 2025 18:28:53
Not convinced by Xavi…. he won la liga in first season against the odds… playing great football and played and won everything under some great managers, if nothing else that commands respect…where the others altogether not exactly won much or ever managed a big club either.
In my eyes Xavi much less of a risk than any of those mentioned….

8.) 30 Sep 2025 21:23:05
Amorim.

9.) 30 Sep 2025 21:35:47
Mainoo is average at best currently maybe he can become a great player but my doubts with his mobility and lacklustre pressure. Every one thinks he can be the difference but he’s done nothing on any sub app to show anything’s positive. I think he would probably suit the Italian league maybe on loan.

10.) 30 Sep 2025 23:00:40
What games are you watching twenty.
We are terrible when Mainoo isn't on the pitch, no cohesion between front and back.
It changes as soon as he comes on.

11.) 01 Oct 2025 04:58:06
I am no fan of Mainoo, he lacks pace and legs to cope in today’s game, but Jesus he must be better than what we have or at least be given a chance in a run of games, but RA just makes a decision and that’s end of, too stubborn, too stupid… now he been told you have to try reintegrate Malacia, against his wishes…… and why not it’s not as if the current team are doing any good, so surely use all at your disposal, so yes give Mainoo a chance, give Malacia a chance move Bruno to proper position, but oh no all to radical for this man and we stick with same ol crap again and again… clearly he on borrowed time there is not one pundit, ex player, ex manager, press person who believes it’s time, so no doubt that happens between now and 1st week of November.

12.) 01 Oct 2025 08:17:55
Honestly I’ll find it hard to get excited about any manager. We’ve tried so many profiles and ages without success that there’s obviously more to it than just that. I was delighted with Jose, I loved the idea of lvg and I was ecstatic with eth. When RA came I was really happy and look how that’s gone. Time will tell whoever we eventually get. I’ll have everything crossed that it’s the right one next time lol.

13.) 01 Oct 2025 08:54:01
I’d love to see Eddie Howe get the job.

Love how Newcastle play. He’s got every player fighting for every ball, the players seem to love him, and he seems to improve players. And he knows the prem.

I'm really not understanding the patience that this manager has received now.

If people were calling OGS a P. E teacher then Amorim is the Dad taking his kid's 5 a side on a Sunday.

We all said it was the drama queen's in the club not pulling their wait. Well the bomb squad's gone and we're still self destructing.

The joke is people say he's good in post match interviews. He's not. He says one thing one week then retracts it the next.

Pre match he said even he doesn't know what United is going to turn up. With the world's scrutiny on you, you need a manager who is emotionally stable, not saying he's going to walk out any second.

Amorim out.

1.) 27 Sep 2025 15:27:23
Brentford fans 'singing your getting sacked in the morning' why wait until morning?

'Those who never changed their mind never changed anything' (Churchill) Far too easy to play against, I'm for giving a manger time, as long as we can see something is building but I'm seriously struggling to see anything.

If he does not start an immediate improvement in performances then I can not see him lasting much longer.

2.) 27 Sep 2025 15:56:51
I've been trying not to jump on the band wagon but I have to admit that I've had enough of watching this crap every week. Nothing is going to change while RA is in charge.

3.) 27 Sep 2025 16:06:44
Absolutely no point in keeping him another day. he is hopeless. amorim out for me.

4.) 27 Sep 2025 16:59:05
Bench Warmer, I can’t watch him pressers any more. It’s absolute drivel.

I liked him when he came in. He had a bit of charisma but he’s full of s**t now.

He’s had a full preseason and has got rid of the players deemed surplus, added players and we’re still crap.

Ineos have a very big decision to make.

I think there is a little too much negativity around our transfer window and season overall.

Before the window we were told we have zero money and would have to sell to buy so I thought we were in BIG trouble.

The additions of Mbuemo and Cunha have already had a big impact on the way we play (and the return of Mount actually) .

We have been crying out for a cohesive pressing system and a style of play. With these players we can see one developing.

There has been some beautiful one touch play and our results so far this season have deserved to be better. There's still teething issues but it is getting better.

All season we have been undermined by one thing. Goalkeeping errors. If you take them out we would be unbeaten this season. We also would have conceded 2 instead of 6 and we would all be talking about how we just need our attack to click.

Now we have tried to address the GK issue with Senne Lemmens and the one stat that I was extremely happy to see, was his crosses stopped which is in the 99 percentile. He's not perfect but he doesn't have to be. Even if he is an average PL level goalkeeper we will all think he's prime Buffon compared to what we have been looking at so far.

Cesko doesn't look fit yet which is a concern but I'm sure they will be working him hard.

Overall a WAY better window then any of us could have hoped for. 8/ 10 for me.

Amen brother.

01 Sep 2025 07:50:37
Heard a few people talking about Onana and Martinez's save percentage being pretty much the same.

I think this stat can be misleading. The thing I noticed even before we bought Onana was his saves always seem to go back into danger where as Emi's are usually pushed wide.

There is also the issue with perception. Onana seems to have a real issue getting down to low shots that are quite close to him body where Martinez will try to use his feet in this situation.

The thing I really care about is how he deals with crosses. So many times this season we are playing really well and then we concede from a basic corner and it deflates the whole team. If Martinez can solve this, then it would be a fantastic signing.

Bench Warmer

1.) 01 Sep 2025 10:26:50
Martinez is a better keeper than Onana, but not by much.

2.) 01 Sep 2025 11:19:31
Miles better than onana in every aspect of the job.

3.) 01 Sep 2025 11:38:59
Martinez comes with baggage. Let’s hope he isn’t a disruptive influence. Been there.

4.) 01 Sep 2025 12:06:31
I hope he bosses his penalty area organises his defenders and that will be a good start.

5.) 01 Sep 2025 12:10:33
Martinez is marginally better than Onana, it will be yet another mistake if United get Martinez. he's a stop gap at best that would lead to us not signing the keeper we should sign.

6.) 01 Sep 2025 12:17:00
Sorry but Martinez is on a different planet to Onana. He was world keeper of the year in 23 and 24, won golden gloves at copa America and world cup in 22 and mentality wise more than anyone he can cope with Man Utd.

Anyone hear the podcast when he talked of nearly quitting at 24 when sent on loan to Getafe and how he has had a mind coach ever since and invests heavily in psychology.

This guy is a United keeper and we should be absolutely prioritising him over Lammens simply because of the here and now next 2 to 3 years. Stability before Ascendency.

28 Aug 2025 09:41:03
4 goals conceded this season.

3 out of 4 were goalkeeping mistakes.

Without them, we would be unbeaten this season which isn't great but is something to build on.

The GK has cost us a cup run, a point and possibly a manager.

The answer is all levels of simple.

Donnaruma, just get him.

Bench Warmer

1.) 28 Aug 2025 09:56:04
This Club doesn’t do the obvious.

2.) 28 Aug 2025 10:09:12
I don't get all this media love in woth Donnaruma that has him as this goal keeping god. I blame Fifa amd FM who always rated him highly. Whenever i watched him he's a liability with the ball at his feet and a liability under crosses.

He will command ridiculous wages, there is a reason why PSG replaced him. We got caught out by PSG buying Ugarte whilst they upgraded to Neves, nonpoint repeating the mistake.

As for the links to Man City, really, cause he don't seem like a Pep GK at all.

3.) 28 Aug 2025 10:54:02
He is a better keeper than what we have, but he isn't the answer. There are good reasons why PSG want rid of him.

He'd be an okay option on loan for a year, but he is a player that ultimately we would need to replace in the next 3-4 years which will be difficult if we give him the size contract he is demanding.

There are better options out there.

Arty Stan, he has a year with an option for the club to extend by a year so essentially be has 2 years left on his contract for the purpose of negotiations.

This is the type of transfer that gets me excited. Seemingly out of the blue and a relative unknown.

Can't tell a lot from YouTube but one thing he does have is a great cross into the corridor of uncertainty.

Apparently been on Brighton's radar for a while and their track record for finding a bargain is usually on point.
