If I am Bruno I am thinking screw this rubbish I am out of here. Yes we are just 2 weeks in the window and we are down to the 3rd choice in midfield already. Relying on Mainoo are we? Spurs actually look like the ambitious club and we are sitting here thinking we finished 3rd so we should be ok with what we have.

By the way, any of you available for free, I hear the recruitment team is looking for cheap options.

Agree2 Disagree0

30 Jun 2026 20:51:27
Ah, would you cop yourself on. There are lots of good midfield options. Nmecha, Scott, maybe Tchoumeni or Manu Kone.
The club seemed happy to go to the 70M range, but 85M was too high. It's hard to argue against them, given a lot of that value is for potential. Anderson chose City. Panic at the end of the window, but it's far too early now.

30 Jun 2026 20:56:54
Stop it with the negative vibes, Moriaty. ?
Remember when United blasted through best part of £250 mil on Antony, Holland and Cass? Still paying the price for that madness.
I'm chill about transfers, it's not something you nor I control.
I'd be happy with a mucky fat sandwich and a bag of brandy snaps.

Massive overreaction. UA and DknRsdis bang on. I said earlier today, some of the best deals are the ones you walk away from.

Who says we were balls out for him? We never even made a bid, and from all accounts, were put off by the very idea he would also be happy to join Spurs. Seriously? That's who you want your future on, a player who can't tell the difference between us and Spurs? Totally the right decision.

If you don't want us and only us, then jog on. You deserve the future you chose.

We have our act together again. We won't always get it right, but this is the right mindset and culture to create a winning team.

30 Jun 2026 21:18:40
Delap, Gyokeres, got Sesko. Donnarumma, Martinez, got Lammens.

I mean, the club seems to have many targets in many different positions. They are holding firm on valuations and sticking to it. I'm all for it. I put any money on it that we have a Fernandes alternative ready to go.

30 Jun 2026 21:25:14
The main attribute, imo, for a Manchester United player is mentality. We need players that want it, want the club, want the badge, want the challenge of being a Manchester United footballer. Last transfer summer, we got that with Cunha and Mbeumo.

If the choice was Tottenham or Manchester United, and Fernandes allowed or chose Tottenham, then that tells me everything I need to know. Talent is important, but to be a Manchester United player, mentality is even more important, imo.

30 Jun 2026 21:49:40
There was no choice to be made. A club matched his valuation. End of story, and it wasn't us. So, saying "well I don't want him here if he doesn't have the mentality or desire" is pointless. We weren't even at the table. Even if we had been at the table, any club in the league who wants a player we want can just offer over 150k a week, and already the package is more attractive.

Maybe we should be questioning the mentality of the club and its desire.
80mil is not a bad price. 6 years ago, we paid 47mil, and with add ons, 60+mil for Bruno.

30 Jun 2026 21:41:13
To quote goldbridge
We are going to get prats in our fan base that are going to say 'you know what its too much money, that's why we haven't done it, we're right to walk away' have a f****** word with yourselves, you'd walk away from Rooney from Andy Cole from Rio from veron from Roy Keane, you'd walk away from every time in the past when we did this to be successful.

At what point did you shove your head up this ownerships arse and say it tastes nice!

30 Jun 2026 22:22:27
Twenty, they can't afford to go 85m on that one player right now. There are so many holes to plug, and overspending on their valuation for a player could be detrimental to other positions.

It's not about a bad/good price based on what we paid, years gone by. United clearly have a budget, and they have to spread it across 5/6 players, and going 10/15m over budget on a player is clearly what they have not fiscally planned for.

If this was a year where we maybe only need 2/3 players with a similar budget, they may have bought him, but the reality is different.

It's not an ambition question, it's the reality of where we are because of overspending and spending terribly. We are trying to claw it back by buying more wisely, and last year's window is indicative of that.

I'm here for it. Competency in my eyes, finally!!!!

30 Jun 2026 22:47:17
I think you're buying into the PR machine of the club.
Didn't Berrada say we will be winning the league in 3 years? 6 players with a budget of 250mil is 41 mil on average a player. That's what Leeds, Bournemouth, even some promoted clubs will be spending on a player. That's the level of player! Why then was the club saying we want Anderson, oh we want Tonali? Did they think they were getting them for 50/60 mil? It's all PR.

We will say we are after the big-name signings, but the reality is they have no intention. Smoke and mirrors. It looks good on them if they show they attempted to make a Tonali and Anderson, and when they don't really show intent by making a bid that is acceptable, they hope, like you, that the fans will say, well, do we want someone who doesn't want to come to Manchester United? They are rehashing an old Glazer phrase, no value in the market.

30 Jun 2026 23:24:23
Twenty you quoted gold bridge, so I'd leave it there.

Not even a United fan ?

30 Jun 2026 23:35:47
Did we want him? I think so, but at our valuation. We didnt want or value him enough to pay what they wanted. No bid was made. As I understand it, we wanted the same commitment from him that we got from Mbeumo and Cunha last season. Tell your club you want United only, and that forces West Ham into a corner. He wouldn't do that so we didn't bid for him.
Rashford has done that with Barcelona.
Its then up to both clubs to reach an agreement.
We paid Bournemouth more than intend as they dug in and negotiated well.
Cunha we paid his release clause, so much easier.
If Fernandes had committed to us I think we could have got him for a bit less but not much.
But he didn't so I think that's part of our strategy and the acid test for all new players to show their desire to join United that they want to see from incoming players.
I like it and it will stop us chasing the players that are chasing the cash and not the club.
It will mean we lose some targets and we wont win them all. Agents will play their part in that too, either pulling with us or use us to get more elsewhere.
As we saw with Mbeumo last season once we have the players commitment we will pay the fee even if slightly above our valuation.

As Angel said above, and I agree. We are not looking for a final piece of the jigsaw or have the luxury of buying the top tier players to challenge or replace a Ballon d'Or winner.
We are looking to get several pieces to compliment the forward line they bought last summer and Bruno. Cunha Dorgu Amad Mbeumo Bruno Mount and Sesko. Needs strengthening for sure but is not unreasonable and all except Bruno have plenty of room and scope for improvement next season.
Every single one of us have our preferences as to who we would like to sign some fans care about the money some don't. My preference was always Anderson 1. Tonali 2 Bruno G 3 Baleba 4 Fernandes 5. Scott 6 Kone from Roma my no 1 from outside the EPL.
I like the idea of a bit more experience alongside Mainoo rather than Baleba or Fernandes.
Ederson has a great engine so I'm hopeful he will take to the EPL and played a Klopp style game under Gasprini.
Newcastle will charge the earth for Tonali but ive read there is a release clause of 60m for Bruno G.
Who knows who we will sign or who the real targets are but whoever they are they need to show their commitment and desire before they ever put their kit on.

30 Jun 2026 23:58:51
Definitely not a 60m release clause for Bruno, or Arsenal's reported bid of 60m would have been accepted. ?

01 Jul 2026 00:02:41
???? This time of year on here is pure comedy gold!!. ????

01 Jul 2026 00:07:46
There was a reported bid, not a bid. There is a difference.

01 Jul 2026 01:16:45
Goldbridge quotes, wow.

01 Jul 2026 03:04:08
You guys seem to be missing the whole bloody point. We are being priced out of every decent option on the market. You think Scott is available for free? The owners just won't dig in, and then tell you the player didn't choose us.

Why would they choose you if you don't even have a project? It's Michael Carrick at the helm, and that's hardly inspiring as it is. We are back to going down the 4th and 5th choice options. Sounds like Fred or Fellaini.

01 Jul 2026 00:15:26
Goldbridge is a smart guy in many ways but football and united are 2 things that he knows little about.
I'm not sure why anybody would watch him or listen to him.
Sex pistols had an album. The great rock and roll swindle.
Goldbridge is the great football swindle

01 Jul 2026 07:57:44
So now we're comparing Fernandes to Cole, Rio, and Rooney.

01 Jul 2026 08:43:58
Ken, that's a great comparison.

01 Jul 2026 13:13:16
Quoting Brent, F***'s. ??

01 Jul 2026 14:19:15
I will be ready and waiting for December when you all will be saying why didn't we just pay the money of every missed target, blah blah blah.
Hopefully we actually have a plan, but this is United and you all have memory loss.

01 Jul 2026 20:24:20
I'd say you're the one with the memory loss, but increasingly I think you're just a gaslighter who likes the attention. You don't speak any sense, and you don't use any relevant references.

We had the best window of all the top clubs last year, for a third of the money net spend of Liverpool. Including the transfer of the year, for our alleged third choice goalkeeper, when it subsequently came out that we had intended to sign Lammens all along and had no interest in Martinez or Donnarumma.

We admitted an interest in Anderson as a player, but we made clear that 100m was insane, never mind the price he went for.

We did the same when Brighton quoted over 100m for Baleba.

There's a whole host of great midfielders out there that, as yet, are completely unmentioned, save for a new post above by Mondieu. And there's another two over in Spain and France. I am not mentioning them because I'm sure journos read these pages, and if we are low key chasing those targets I'm not going to shine any light on it so that they don't become a magnet for stupid pricing.
