We seem to have gone quiet, almost accepting the club will appoint Carrick. I was on here warning the dangers of appointing Moyes, flagged that LvG had to be the precursor for Pep or not at all, that Ole was a huge mistake, that ETH was wrong, that ETH should not have had his contract extended. Now it seems the club are drifting in to appoint Carrick. Utterly useless decision making.
I cannot agree with this, it feels like Ole all over again not the man, but the situation. It's almost like appointing Southgate B.

My first time of asking but Ed can we have a vote a. Carrick b. Someone else.

Next Manager poll

Red Man, someone else is too vague. Your opinion seems to be anyone but Carrick. Give us some options so the poll is meaningful.

Give us your pick, Red Man.
I think if the likes of Tuchel or Enrique were available, then we would be all over it. The fact is, they are not available.
I must admit I am on the fence with Carrick, but it looks like he's going to get the job, so everyone needs to back him, including INEOS and the Glazers.

We need a top summer of players coming in to give him every chance to succeed.

Some people on here seem to love being right by betting against anything happening, without specifying the right direction. It's getting tiresome.

Reflecting on where we are, I now believe Nagelsmann but I actually think Iraola could be a really interesting choice
If Ed wants to make it a 3 way choice then fine

{Ed033's Note - If you want a poll, submit a question and possible voting options.

Nagelsmann was laughed at by the Bayern players. Iraola is interesting, but there doesn't seem to be a queue of clubs after him, does there?

{Ed077's Note - And there is endless line for CARRICK ?

Carrick's getting his shot, and, whilst I'm dubious, I think it's a fair enough choice to give him a chance. What is clear, though, is that if this doesn't work out, then Berrada and Wilcox have to go too. This will be their second managerial appointment, and they also kept Eth; it hasn't exactly gone well, has it? Big pressure on them for this to succeed.

14 May 2026 15:43:11
I'd take Carrick over either of your 2 options, RedMan.

I'm very sceptical about Carrick as a permanent manager. If you asked United fans when Amorim left, I doubt a single one would have had him as their choice for manager.

I think he did a great job as interim manager. Especially at the start, when it was clear that the players needed a bit of attacking freedom to get their confidence back.

However, I am always wary of the new manager bounce teams get when the club gets rid of a divisive coach. It's what happened when Ole took over from Jose, and that type of uptick in form is never sustainable.

Carrick is an odd case because the results have been good, but there hasn't been any clear evidence of his coaching resulting in improving performances.

I think we have been lucky in getting some of the results we have this year, and I haven't seen a defined play style emerge under Carrick either. It often feels like the mood of the players determines the level of performance, and I don't think "keep it tight in defence and hope Bruno creates something" is a convincing blueprint for a club wanting to win trophies.

My preference for manager is Pochetino. I think he's a good blend of personable presence, experience, and tactical adaptability. I know most will disagree, but I've always thought he could do a good job here.

mbd,

People told me the same about Moyes, LvG, Ole, Erik ten Hag.

Has there really been a full assessment selection process into the next manager? Or was it a rubber stamp process? Let's see the thought process.
I went through this on here with Moyes, LvG, Ole, ETH, and it's hard to understand how the answer is that the best candidate this time is Carrick.

14 May 2026 14:46:28
Ed077 the point AJH is trying to make, like most of us on here, is that there doesn't seem to be a massive line for anyone at present.

I think it's a case of Carrick being in the right place, at the right time, with the right results.

The club have probably taken the view that he is a pair of safe hands at the moment. There's no standout candidate and if they do go with someone like Iraola/Nagelsmann and they don't hit the ground running, everyone will be pining for Carrick.

At least this way, he carries on, the club get better players in place for him and he gets an opportunity to show what he is worth, on a short term deal, which is looking likely.

{Ed077's Note - I would consider IRAOLA as a "standout candidate" myself. ( A full podcast is up on the managerial situation posted yesterday ? #notaplug ??)
