All blame Onana and he did make mistakes, but Lyon missed 3 to 4 clear chance too, a more clinical team could have scored more. Our defence/ midfield is still weak.

No, I think we can blame Onana.
The opposition will miss chances 99% of the time. But 99% of professional keepers wouldn’t make the two mistakes Onana made last night.
If it was a one off, people would be sympathetic. But it isn’t. Onana is a constant liability. He has been directly responsible for us conceding goals more than any other player. This is possibly the worst performance of a united keeper, over a full season, that I have seen since I started watching in the 80s. Amorim’s biggest failure here has been refusing to drop Onana.

That's the deficiencies of their own attackers for me.
Onana gifted both goals, we win otherwise. Simple.

The reality is that most teams will miss a certain amount of chances in games and we are/ were as guilty as any if not more so with our strikers.
However, what you need from your Goalkeeper is a calming influence to the defence, reliability when called upon to not concede goals he would be expected to get and ability to save a percentage of goals that they are not expected to get. On all counts Onana has struggled this season.
Should definitely have saved the first, it looks bad especially on some of the angles where he is there to get the ball but drops his weight rather than moving towards the ball!
The second, top keepers would have softer hands to minimise where the ball would come out to and then react quicker. We have seen this season that he parries balls into dangerous areas. If I was being generous I would say that our defenders are still not reacting quickly enough whereas attackers are expecting him to parry the ball.
Dalot. not reacting, looking along the line with seeing Cherki behind him but still stepping forward trying to play the offside putting his hand up and then down quickly realising he looked like an idiot!

The guy couldn’t catch a cold
Absolutely woeful.

Shappy and I had this debate when he signed. He is a really bad goal keeper and he is not even high level in terms of distribution.
Judge a keeper on 2 things primarily. 1. How many points he costs you.
2. How many saves does he make when he is not favourite to save.
Onana is a liability was always going to be a liability. He lacks so many of the fundamental qualities to be a good keeper. One of our worst signings of all time along with sancho Anthony and sanchez.

He was poor last night, but last year he made the most saves and had the 6th highest save % in the EPL. I would upgrade bit he's not the disaster some would have us believe, even accepting he had a 'mare last night.

AJH,
That’s a really misleading stat imo, he might have made saves but that doesn’t take into account difficult saves, they might just be shots straight at him, which he was actually conceded a number of this season. He has to make 2 saves most times anyway because he palms it straight back to them for another chance. He’s useless and he is exactly the disaster people would have you believe, he’s not good at any single aspect of being a good goalkeeper, he should be dropped immediately and sold in the summer to the highest bidder, he is killing us with the mistakes and we could miss out on CL next season because of him which could set us back a year.

Onana's time must surely be up now. I had high hopes for him, sure there were a few concerns about him making the odd gaff when he joined. Yet he had been very good in most areas (particularly his distribution) at both Ajax and Inter. Enough at least that at the time he looked like a good buy.
Yet with every passing week he seems to get worse. He seems to be missing some of the fundamentals of a keeper, his foot work is awful, as is his aerial ability when coming for crosses. While his passing which was a strength at other clubs has been very hit and miss for us. Initially I thought it might be the team set up or player limitations. Meaning he had few good passing options. Yet it's clear now though that it is his decision on which pass to make and when that seems to be the bigger issue. Maybe at other clubs he had teammates with enough technical ability to dig him out when he made a bad pass.
While his gaffs seems to be happening more and more often (how many times now have we seen him lose the flight of the ball to see it nestle in at the far post, or seen him palm out a shot to the feet of the opposition) ; I'll also say that I've never seen a keeper concede so many savable shots. Shots that if he had his feet sorted out he would have been able to get to it and make the save.
It's time to move him on and bring in an upgrade, at this point that might be the easiest transfer imaginable, as surely my nan would be an upgrade and she's been dead for several years now.

Easy to switch the shirt name to anana too, Shappy.

Anyone who says Onana isn't complete dog poo is kidding themselves.

We all get there in the end Shappy, just that some see useless before others!

I think like with every United player who ultimately isn't good enough there tends to be a massive overreaction from the fans.
The hyperbole is nuts. We've seen it with Maguire, and Rashford and now with Onana.
The way fans talk are as if they are Sunday league players. All of them are top players capable of performing well in top leagues around Europe. Maybe they don't suit the EPL, or don't fit the system we play, or lack the mentality to thrive at United due to the huge pressure they are under (which even now is bigger than at pretty much any other club in the world) .
Onana reminds me of Barthez, capable of both brilliant and madcap moments.
I wouldn't say he is useless, but he isn't reliable enough for us. Especially as we rebuild the side, meaning that we will potentially concede more chances as the midfield and defence are unsettled and learning the roles they are expected to play in this system. Mistakes will be made and the opposition will get more chances because of that. Which means we need a more consistent and dependable keeper between the sticks as we can't afford to give away silly goals safe in the knowledge that we'll outscore the opposition.

We are not judging him in another league but judging him for united, I could not care less if he can save every shot in italy, he is useless here that’s all that counts
DeGea saves shots in italy, most said he was past it here!
You even said he is fantastic when he joined be able to ping the ball about…here he can’t even do that, so that makes him useless where we care about and that’s at United in epl.
