Many want Maguire gone, but he is clearly well respected by RA and the club. He is part of the leadership team and we have apparently turned down bids from 5 EPL clubs for him.
Perhaps he isn't the waste of space many of here think he is.

I don’t think he’s a waste of space, I actually have a lot of respect for him. He took dogs abuse and the captaincy taken away at one point but kept his head up and got on with his job.
He’s probably a mangers dream in that sense.
That all being said, he isn’t great and we really do need better, more modern CB’s.

It is his footballing ability that is in question, not his integrity as a human being.
He is not good enough, but will play one more season with us, and when called upon, will try his very best to succeed for united.
Make no mistake though, with Maguire in the team, we are very much weaker than him on the bench.

I believe this season will mark his decline, however, he does offer one great thing that nobody else in our squad can - he absolutely dominates most people in the air.
As we're still a club early in transition, we're still going to need Plans B and C more frequently than we'd like and a big lump nutting the ball into orbit or rising like an airborne fridge to smash the ball into the net when bums get squeaky would be very handy.

So, I disagree. He is not the most mobile and he looks cumbersome, but my God he knows how to defend.
Perhaps we shouldn't have signed him, but we did, and he has been a true pro since we did. He has a bad game and people pile in, he has a good game and people appeaar not to notice.
Yes he is limited, yes he is not 'world class', but the Manager and club rate him, so perhaps y'all need to wind your necks in.

I think maguire had done himself a lit if good with his attitude.
He is the elderly statesman now that Evans has gone. He has earned the managers respect in that regard I think and a lot of fans me included he has improved when 3 at the back no doubt. I've no issue with him staying and getting another year or 2 on reduced terms if he is contributing off the pitch as pitch as on it. Je will only play a bit part but obviously is a good squad member.

Pretty expensive bench player, but aways room for experienced pros around the place, and he has a good attitude.
Not good enough to be first choice. But possibly exactly what heaven, Yoro and co need as they start their careers. I imagine he and de ligt will share the CCB spot as well as some cover for Yoro RCB.

McGuire is not so bad as everyone makes out, but like Deligt and Martinez just not good enough for what United need, don’t make them all awful bad players like some people try to think when saying someone is not good enough it means they are just not the level that we need if we want to try get back up the table.
If we are happy enough mid table then yes let’s keep the McGuires, the Deligts Martinez, Shaw, Ugarte, Zirkee even I include Mainoo and Cass in that all players that are either, slow, ponderous not mobile or injury prone!

He's certainly a divisive player reading these comments over the past few seasons.
If we're playing with a back 3 then we need 6 CBs who can walk into the team, and he's a solid option.
As a player he's pretty cumbersome with the ball and the whole game slows down when he has it. But he has his uses too, he's probably our best player in both penalty boxes whether attacking or defending.
He has a lot of characteristics that have been lacking across the squad in terms of leadership and he seems like a strong personality to have behind the scenes.
