Is anyone else worried about so much time and money is going into the Mbeumo deal. I have to admit, l never watched him play, but 1 year left on his contract, had 1 good season. Many players especially forwards have had a great season, with their value shooting up, only for season 2 to be poor and they fade away. United seem to be victims of this more that once we bought players in from German who were the best in that league 3 times they all flopped, Kwaga, Miketarian, Sancho. This guy has Premier league experience so hopefully it works out. I do hope we are looking at midfielders too as with Casemero and Urgarte need an upgrade there too. No point having a new CF costing 70mil if we are leaking goals at the back and can't get him the ball up top.
{Ed001's Note - he hasn't had one good season mate.}

Stop worrying it will not be good for you.

Mbeumo scored 20 in the league last season. Garnacho, Zirkzee, Hojlund and Amad had 21 between them.

He’s been good for years and he’s not only got 1 year left on his contract. He will be a great signing, let’s hope we get it over the line.

I’m more worried about how a club still regarded as one of the biggest in the world can take an extra 5 weeks to scrounge £10m. Maybe there’s a collection going round?

Spenno,
Yeah perhaps we should have just offered £100m weeks ago then he would have been signed by now and we would be no better off.

Could not agree more GDS2, exactly what I was thinking.
If we had paid what they wanted straight up, can you imagine the moaning and complaining on here about overpaying and giving in too easily.
Damned if you do and damned if you don't.
The player's are coming back next week, what difference would it have made if he had been signed earlier?
05 Jul 2025 17:48:18
GDS2, maybe IQs dropped while I was away, but an extra £10m as I suggested said doesn't make it a £100m offer, which would just be stupid. It would make it the exact total we'll end up paying, 5 weeks after we knew we'd pay it.

We are in a muddle where the need for a haggle is further intensified by set financial limitations - we need to at least try to save a little on fees if we can.
I mean, while we're being squeezed over the upper-tier-salary/ fee players we want rid of, we're stuck with how we've made our own bed. As much as we might want what we want for Rashford, Sancho and Antony, the reality is that we'll certainly get rather a bit less than what we'd want for them - the already-held discussions with interested parties have proven that to be the case.
Were it not for Cunha's release clause, we all know we'd be in this very same boat for him.
Our financial situation is delicate at best and, while it would certainly be a lot less frustrating to just meet a player's valuation, our needs absolutely dictate the must far more than our wants.
We will end up paying what Brentford want and I fully believe he'll turn out to be worth every penny, but we are negotiating with a club who have all the cards.
Like with any business, costs should be reasoned and measured in accordance with financial capacity, growth and impact assessments, etc.
The extra £10m might not sound that much in the grand scheme, but for a club in such a financial predicament that has just had such a woeful season bringing no additional monies, that additional outlay of £10m carries much greater risk.
Would it not actually be folly to continue repeating precedents set by the incompetents by just meeting whatever valuation when our current situation is so flimsy?

They were very clear, the price was set at the same as Cunha. Right from to outset. We are trying to haggle and they will not budge. We do seem to lack the ability to negotiate, it damages our reputation further if we negotiate for 6 weeks to end up where they said 6 weeks ago. We look weak, which we are.
05 Jul 2025 21:23:50
Imagine if there were other players out there with release clauses that were within our budget. Delap, Garcia etc.
05 Jul 2025 22:44:42
But Dodgy, as a result of our predicament, we will look weak no matter how we go about things, and that will continue for a while longer yet.
Brentford were easily better than we were last season and they'd obviously like to repeat that. If they're going to sell a player approaching his prime then they'll obviously want to stick to their own valuation. If they let him go for less, then they increase the risk of strengthening the prospects of a club who seek to reach their level, thus making themselves appear weak.
They know their position is strong and that ours is weak.
If United straight up offered them the £70m they originally wanted, they might think there's room to haggle us further up - add ons and the like. Would that really make us look anything but weak?
The timeline has been protracted, but the negotiations regarding exits of Rashford, Sancho, Antony and Garnacho - with all the respective complications - will be eating up plenty of time.
We are in a weak position, one of our own making, we all need to get used to it.

The only thing I am worried about is how our best in class appointment are turning out to be quite the opposite.
05 Jul 2025 23:15:18
We had triggered his clause at Ipswich jimbo. Before Chelsea did. Once Chelsea triggered it he chose them
Garcia made his choice of Barcelona so its a shame we were not their 1st choice like we are for cunha and mbeumo.
