Any rumours of any of young U-23s players going to be promoted full-time to the First Team (Chong, Gomes, Anderson) this year? Any of the young First Team players expected to feature more regularly in EPL matches this year (Fosu-Mensah, Tuanzebe)?

Fosu-Mensah hasn't got a sniff for me I expect him to leave.

2.) 23 Jun 2019 12:16:44
If lukaku leaves and we don't sign a striker or right winger then greenwood will surely have a lot of chances to prove himself.

3.) 23 Jun 2019 14:06:33
Greenwood is too young. We need a proven goals order as Martial and Rashford alone won't score enough goals.

4.) 23 Jun 2019 15:30:59
Your never “to young”. If you have the ability and a positive mental attitude. Age doesn’t matter.

5.) 23 Jun 2019 16:30:11
If your good enough your old enough.

6.) 23 Jun 2019 19:37:40
Hes a kid WRD. still in school isn't he?

7.) 23 Jun 2019 20:28:16
He's 17, soon to turn 18. The same age Ryan Giggs was playing regularly for us, and nearly a year older then Rooney was playing regularly for Everton.

That doesn't mean he is ready to play on a regular basis, but giving him a few games and seeing how he does is fair enough. With young players it's vital that you manage them very carefully, their enthusiasm often rules their head and they will gladly play when they need to rest. Both physically and mentally. But there are many examples of players Greenwoods age playing regularly. So I wouldn't rule it out.

8.) 24 Jun 2019 01:24:43
I would think aching is a possibility to get some playing time. Depending if/ who we sign for the right wing.

9.) 24 Jun 2019 06:46:03
And how often do those type of players come along shappy? You have to be incredibly careful with kids entering into the professional game. If rushed, it can have detrimental effects.

I see Greenwoods name being mentioned all over the place. Just leave him alone. If he gets a couple of games, good for him, if not, then great. he's got so much time.

10.) 24 Jun 2019 13:48:25
Haha that was supposed to be Chong.

11.) 24 Jun 2019 15:18:41
Chong people are excited, they should be excited by young players. Youth is the life blood of our club.

Young players breaking into the first team, Charlton, Best, Giggs, Beckham, Scholes, Ronaldo, Rooney etc. Some come through the academy other bought as teenagers.

I get your point about not putting too much pressure or expectancy on young shoulders. I fully agree, yet if he is to be the best he will have to develop the right mentality to deal with that. Messi was talked about being a great player when he was 14/ 15 years old, broke into the first team at 16/ 17.

Greenwood is potentially the most talented youngster to come through our academy since Ravel Morrison. Let's hope he follows Scholes's path and not Ravel's.

We know he has the talent, but does he have the temperament? The only way to find out is to play him.

We have to trust in the coaching staff to guide him, as well as the players in the first team. But you can't expect fans to not get excited by a hugely talented youth player.

Any hint of truth in these Mpabbe and Verratti rumors? If there is genuine interest in Mpabbe, would United need to negotiate with PSG or Monaco as well?

yuudair

{Ed002's Note - I don't know of any rumours involving these players - I assume you mean moving to Manchester United. I am not aware of any approach from MU to PSG about Verratti although Mourinho was a fan at Chelsea but the player only had eyes for Italy. As I have explained on the European pages in the past, there is a chance that PSG would let Verratti go but that was always driven by a particular need for money by June 30 and I am not so sure Verratti is yet fit after being injured for a while. As for Mbappe, he is a Monaco player until July 1 and then he moves to PSG - if for reasons I can't imagine that does not go ahead, then PSG would pay a penalty to Monaco. There is interest in him from a couple of clubs, one of which will be open to taking him is a deal involving cash and another player. I am not aware of any MU approach for Mbappe.}

Cheers, Ed002. The latest transfer talk going around now (from The Sun, mind you) is that PSG are offering Verratti plus cash for Pogba, and want to offload Mbappe to stay in line with FFP with both Manchester clubs interested. Likely rubbish speculation.

{Ed002's Note - What has Mbappe got to do with FFP?}

Any idea when we will learn the squad for the pre-season US tour which starts with the game with LA Galaxy on Jul 15th? Unless injured or on loan next season, we should have all First Team squad members for the tour, as I don't think any were involved in the U21 World Cup or Confed Cup. Looking forward to see which young Reserve Team players get to go as well.

With us being linked to a host of foreign talent and Young/ Smalling/ Jones/ Rooney being linked with a move out, are we in any danger of not meeting the 8 player Homegrown Player Rule next season? Or does the rule say that we can register players under 21 years old (like Rashford, Shaw) as a homegrown squad member to fill the quota and join the likes of Carrick, Pogba and Lingard?

My concern in general is the lack of English players we will end up with after this window closes. I know English players generally aren't as good, the best ones are exceptionally difficult to sign and generally speaking it doesn't really matter. It would be nice to see some English players in the team though. I've always thought we did well with them but if there aren't any available that are good enough there's nothing we can do. It's a huge can of worms.

2.) 13 Jun 2017 20:45:02
We'd beat England. Right now there is a serious dearth of good players.

First time poster. Thank you for the great job, eds. With regard to the Schweini signing, for his leadership qualities & commanding presence alone on the field, I think he's a great signing. For those who have seen much of him playing, does he play in a similar position to Carrick & Schneiderlin? Can we see two of the three playing in the same lineup?
Also, any rumors on Perreira's & Januzaj's roles in the team this new season? Convert to striker or second fiddle to Di Maria/Depay/Mata/Herrera/Young?

yuudair

{Ed004's Note - I predict that Carrick and Schweinsteiger will vary rarely play together except for against the very best teams when we need more defensive cover. It will be one of Carrick or Schweinsteiger holding our midfield and dropping in between the centre backs. If Schneiderlin is signed he is more of a box to box midfielder currently but over time will replace Carrick and then Schweinsteiger IMO. Fellaini will probably become a plan B}

1.) 11 Jul 2015 18:50:41
Good Pont Ed004. I am starting to think that LVG is building a team with two cores, one for Europe & one for the EPL.

2.) 11 Jul 2015 20:18:34
Exactly the same feeling.
Maybe if we sign Schneiderlin he could possibly play the holding role in Carling cup and FA cup games.

Reading rumors now that AC Milan are close to agreeing a EUR40m deal to purchase Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. And we were thinking that Utd were quoted EUR100 (>_.

{Ed001's Note - United were.}

Just curious - why name injured players such as Shaw, Rojo and Young on the tour squad when they're sure not to play? Would have helped to bring more young players on the tour for experience and motivation.
The tour squad again for reference - Eric Bailly, Daley Blind, Michael Carrick, Matteo Darmian, David de Gea, Marouane Fellaini, Tim Fosu-Mensah, Ander Herrera, Phil Jones, Victor Lindelof, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial, Juan Mata, Scott McTominay, Demetri Mitchell, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Andreas Pereira, Joel Pereira, Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, Marcos Rojo, Sergio Romero, Luke Shaw, Chris Smalling, Axel Tuanzebe, Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young.
