Are people actually watching these Brazil games? First match Fred came off at half time, second match shortly after half time and third match he almost went the distance and barely got the ball. He is being deployed behind Neymar in order to do his work. The ball is being deployed through Casemiro and is bypassing Fred either to Sandro or Neymar. Fred does have a seriously impressive engine and he is being deployed in a way that really only works at International level, where teams like Venezuela have average MLS or domestic level players. I like Fred, and hope we keep him for the wider squad, but there are many many potential players at reasonable cost that would improve our side, provide better balance and allow Pogba to play in his best position.

If football was played without a ball, Fred would be world class.

So Some thoughts on Nainggolan having tea fixed my eyes on him for the entire 90 mins. Firstly, he isn't a defensive midfielder, against Udinese he was playing on the right of a midfield 3, with De Rossi sitting. However be spent probably more time on the left (at set pieces, restarts he would line up on the right).

His distribution was high tempo, he played some acute angle passes, the odd Hollywood speculator but all in all his distribution was effective and tidy.

Defensively he played like a pit bull - tracked back and committed the odd rash challenge, will definitely be worth a few cards a season. However his timing was generally very good.

His movement was at times a little sluggish but with his work rate you can forgive him. He showed his range by scoring a goal and setting one up, as Van Gaal would say a 60m midfielder.

I think he is on par with Gundagon (pre injury) and Vidal (pre injury) - all three of them can play across a midfield three and three can play a sitting role. I'd say Vidal is the most comfortable in the position Big Fella currently occupies.

For me the only thing that Nainggolan has against him is Roma's price tag, and the fact he is close to 28 already. Vidal and Gundagon would come cheaper for different reasons Ed002 has already divulged.

On a separate note, the football was actually pretty terrible, if I were a player I'd avoid Serie A like the plague. De Rossi was also very strong, Terry Butcher head wound et al.

Does anybody else agree that we should stay away from Spanish players as because if they end up being a great player they want to head home to madrid or barca

2.) 18 May 2015 19:09:37
100% - plus any players that support Chelsea or Munich.

I would also carry out due diligence on their wives or girlfriends, because any that don't want to move, or seem to rule the roost will present problems at some point.

There is too much money and upheaval involved now to just ignore the personal life.

3.) 18 May 2015 20:42:49
He just turned 27. Other than that would give us the aggression and bite in midfield that can stop us from being overrun. Him Carrick and Herrera would be outstanding for big away games and European games.

4.) 18 May 2015 20:43:09
Roma have been hit pretty hard by FFP, and according to reports both Pjanic and Nainggolan will be available at the right price (probably £40M+ for Pjanic and £25M+ for Nainggolan).

5.) 18 May 2015 21:21:37
Beast ,
Maybe we should get MI6 involved in our transfer dealings ?

6.) 18 May 2015 21:59:42
Haha last month he was 26 and we would be saying perfect age for a midfielder of that ilk. Some people have a habit of adding a few years to a players we are linked to

7.) 18 May 2015 22:34:11
Absolutely,Beast! Perhaps we should look at orphans. Maybe raid a seminary?

8.) 18 May 2015 23:33:16
I would consider it an honour to carry out "due diligence" on the girlfriends and wives. Where do I sign up beast?

9.) 19 May 2015 01:51:18
Beast, I chuckled at your post thinking you were joking. Imagine how silly I felt when I realised you were actually being serious.

Ed002 haas stated several times that we are strongly interest in Vidal. Having years left on his contract the possibilities of us signing him seem bleak. However for Juve wanting a striker and according to the press a strong interest in RVP. How would people feel about a cut price RVP going to Juve and Arturo Vidal coming to OT for a (UTD) record fee?

I love Vidal, but I just can't sacrifice RVP. Unless we sign Cavani. it's beyond ridiculous to expect Vidal and the likes of Cavani to rock up at Carrington come August.

mooseman

{Ed004's Note - I'd love Vidal and think in an ideal world a midfield of Kroos/Carvalho and Vidal with Mata in the number 10 would be the best in the league. Kagawa and Reus/a winger with speed (Di Maria, Sanchez, Griezman etc) with RVP or Rooney up front is the way to go. My issue is who do you drop/sell. There isn't a chance in hell either will be happy being back up. Though I reckon there will be much more interest in RVP and he would adapt easier to a new economy than Rooney. So I can't see how we could sell Rooney I don't think we would get as many offers}

1.) Realistically chaps, none of our stars are going to be sold - not this year anyway. There is too much work to be done to even consider selling one of Rooney or RVP. I have said for a long time that once the midfield pair improve the rest of the team will improve with it. As I have just commented on another post, I see Moyes sticking RVP back up top (he is one of the very best strikers around), Rooney behind him with Mata right as an inside forward who often plays as a number 10 with the full back giving width. We would then have Kagawa/Januzaj or new signing on the left (hopefully Reus).

Having a more solid midfield pairing will help out every area of the team. William Caravlho is going to be an absolute rock and we can either pair him with Fellaini or a new signing. Perhaps Kroos and Gundogan are unlikely, as are many others but we have today been linked with Enzo Perez who wouldn't be a bad signing at all. I am a big fan of the Portugese League and he is a brilliant player, strong and skillful.

2.) Pure conjecture of course, but I'd let RVP go and I would try and keep Hernandez, who could have a terrific season if we actually had players who pass the ball well, move off it into space, have good close control, and who cross accurately with intent rather than blindly.

3.) I cannot see the sense in letting go of one of the best players in the League. It's non sensical.

4.) Fresh, Barceona got rid of Ronaldinho, Ibra and Eto. Never mind the league, they were 3 of the best players in the world at their time and yet they kept improving.

No matter how magnificent a player is ( unless his name is Ronaldo/ Messi ) there is absolutely no reason for a coach to destabilize the team to get the best out of him. For me, until Moyes chooses to get rid/ bench one of Rooney/ RVP, we will not move forward.

We have to choose which one is our Messi, and which one is our Ibra. We have to get rid of one to get the best out of the other ( not to mention Mata who has an Iniesta-like role in the story ).

{Ed004's Note - And I'd chose RVP but not in mood to start a huge debate on the matter again}

5.) Well we will have to see who performs better in the new side when everyones fit. It might work beautifully or it might be awful, time will tell.

6.) I agree mick1, Rooney and rvp should share the centre forward position, although I'd like to have a look at Rooney on the left of a front three.

Sorry for the cut and paste, but DM clarifies the Januzaj CL omission. Apologise if this is has already been mentioned, and another apology for the cut and paste!

"Moyes said that though the Belgian midfielder will also miss the trip to Shakhtar Donetsk, he will become available for United's final four Champions League group games, because of Uefa's registration system.

He said: "By October 7, Adnan will have been at the club for the length of time that will allow him to go onto the 'B' list. It means he will become a youth player [for the Champions League].

"If we had put him onto the 'A' list now, then we would never have been able to class him as a youth-team player. So we needed to wait for two games to do that."

Had Januzaj been on the A list, the United manager would have had to omit a senior player from his squad."

1.) This was posted before but it is encouraging as it sounds like he is going to be involved.

Didn’t Barcelona renegotiate his contract so he would be paid more in later years to offset the C.V. cuts? Which would mean if he left he wouldn’t necessarily be owed anything, unless it was stipulated that the reduction would be a guaranteed repayment irrespective of contract being fulfilled. If this was the case then I’m sure it would have been reported. You’d also have to think that Ten Hag would have a good idea of what Frenkie desires and wouldn’t pursue a dead end.

I happen to be in Rome this weekend and am looking forward to watching Nainngolan at the Stadio Olympico tomorrow. He seems like a natural ball winner, not sure he is a deep lying playmaker. But nonetheless he would be very destructive in a midfield three.

As Ed02 states it will carryon till the Summer. The player was actively tweeting his love for United, but early this Summer he suggested his dream may not happen. I'm not 100 per cent sure, but I think it's may be to do with his passport/visa situation. An attempt to get an Italian passport failed, his move to Italy may be a stepping stone to Old Trafford - but that's just speculation on my part. He hasn't yet played a senior game for Desportivo Brasil yet.

Aymeric’s fee I assume doesn’t include the hefty tax implication of the process. I didn’t follow it closely so not sure AB were happy to deal directly with City. Either way the hypocrisy is ludicrous. on a totally unrelated note Tatith Chong is a potential superstar.

Fair point Red Seven, don't ever use ESPN as precedent for anything! I'm pretty sure I remember watching him in two league losses myself. the fallacy of man.

Anyhow, the point stands - he still offers a great deal, the extra year isn't sentiment, its based of reason. To suggest he offers nothing, is even more criminal than throwing erroneous stats about, that overinflated his value! hahaha

More to the point, if he doesn't perform he won't prevent anyone from playing but himself. If he performs then why complain? I would love to see TFM play in midfield or at least in a central role as a defender.

Carrick offers so much on the pitch and off it. In the 16 starts he had this season past, we won 12, drew 3, and lost 1. His intuitive sense is just getting better and better, he was never mobile and he rarely got into the opposition box, but if fit he would be the first name on my team list if we played a midfield 3. Unless, we signed another first team ready deeper lying playmaker.

I'd rather big money be spent on a CB partner for Smalling, and a right sided left footed attacker. Woodie just needs to camp out with team France at the Euros and remind Varane and Griezmann why they grew up loving United.

Even if we managed to bring Saul to Old Trafford, I'd still want Carrick in that role. Carrick, Rooney and Saul behind Martial, Rashford and Griezmann would be pretty sweet. Though, I just read Griezmann isn't looking to leave the Vicente Calderon this Summer, oh well.

So I'm more familiar with Copyright ambiguities but in all honesty. If United wasn't so focused on extracting as much revenue as possible, the deal would have been signed on Monday. The revenue Chelsea collect from Mourinho trademarked merchandise can't be that much. However, they can charge an impressive licensing fee - If i were United, I'd just find out exactly what products have been registered and be continually aware of that list - and just make sure they don't sell anything with his name on it that Chelsea has trademarked.

I'm sure there are a couple of other legal alternatives - but for me the cost right now doesn't benefit any potential revenue. However, and this is a big however - If Chelsea have the right to trademark any product with Jose's name, there could be a future product not yet created that could have massive merchandising potential. I imagine it's that fear that is driving that is motivating Woodward and the Glaziers.

I pretty sure Inter and Real just paid a fee - but then I'm not sure if a trademark fee is created ad hoc i.e chelsea could troll United. that is speculation on my part.

Thanks Ed004 - i wonder what is going to happen with Janusazj and the number 11 jersey. I'd like to see Andreas Pereira get a serious run of games. Very excited for next season, even before the recent mayhem - so much top class young talent lurking. Don't by the Jose doesn't play youth nonsense. If they do a job he wants then they will play, if not then they won't. Same as any player irrespective of age.

mooseman

{Ed004's Note - I think Januzaj and Periera could and should both be loaned to premiership teams next season. Hopefully Mensah, Shaw, Martial and Rashford are the players that get game time next season(Borthwick as well for cover)}
