As we move into the new squad cost era, United currently stand at around £350m. With Casemiro, Sancho and Hojlund's departures we should reduce that by £73m. (We are not paying Sancho and Rasmus's wages at the moment but their remaining book value will be gone).

That brings us to Rashford, Onana, Ugarte and possibly Zirkzee. We're not paying wages for the first 2 right now. Rashford is 0 book value so any sale would be all profit. If we can somehow manage to sell them all, even if we have to eat a book loss, we will remove a further £77m, for £150m in total.

There could be others. I'd be looking to sell Martinez.

So hoping for the best, squad cost should be reduced to around £200m. With Champions League money revenues should be more like £750m, We will have a ceiling of £500m+. If we went to £100m and £300k a week for one perfect player it would cost £35m, still leaving bags of room. As long as the cash flow is there I would not be surprised to see us sending in the region of £300m this summer.

Anderson 100m
Ederson 50m
Joao Gomes 40m
Porro 50m
Mateta 40m
Senesi Free (just to keep those of you that insist that we need 6 CB's for 2 spaces ;) ).

Thanks, newname. So, to understand how it works, if we buy a player for 100 million and he earns 300k a week, then the player costs 35 million per year (I understand 20 million per year X 5 years for buying him, and 15 million his contract).

In this case, we can buy 5 such players without having a big problem with PSR, is it right?
Of course, I understand there are many other factors, like debt, etc.

05 May 2026 23:40:17
Heaven, as I understand it, PSR is over at the end of this year and instead the EPL will move to a squad cost system as already exists for teams qualifying for Europe. The EPL will be 85%, but teams that qualify for Europe will have to keep it at 70% to meet the UEFA cap.

So, yes, we could theoretically have room to buy 5 such players and have no problem. We will also have bonuses to meet for making it into the Champions League, plus some improved contracts, like Kobbie's, to swallow.

So, we can buy five £100m players? Hmm, I suspect not.

06 May 2026 10:11:07
I think we'll be trying to keep squad cost down to around £400m with 5-6 new faces, depending on outgoings. The owners will also want to start making a profit and having a positive cash flow again. Our non-squad costs are still way too high, in part due to interest on borrowings.

We may already have 5 CBs but, in reality, how many of them are any good?
De Ligt... never fit.
Martinez never fit, a liability, and a poor CB anyway.
Yoro not good enough for the EPL, weak and a weed, plus poor positioning.
Maguire is probably our best, that says it all.
Heaven, only one to keep.

06 May 2026 15:21:45
I don't agree re Yoro. At his age, he's the best in the world. Wait till he's a few months off 24 years old, the same age as when we signed Rio Ferdinand, and then tell me what his ceiling is.

Heaven shows the same promise, though he's a little too reliant on recovery tackles right now and needs positional awareness and anticipation training.

06 May 2026 15:34:07
The best in the world? What have you seriously been watching? You're surely joking, right!
He gets bullied easily, he is out of position too often, and you say best in the world, surely not!

Who else on here thinks he is best in the world or anywhere near it for that matter?

06 May 2026 15:50:41
He clearly says "at his age" he's the best in the world. So the question is whether you think there are better 20 year old CB's out there?! I don't know to be honest but it's certainly not the most outrageous comment you have decided to try and make it.

In fact, you are a prime example of a poster who doesn't read what someone has put and just decides on what their post means to suit your posts.

06 May 2026 16:15:30
I have read it, and I would say he is not even the best in the EPL at his age, let alone the rest of the world.

06 May 2026 16:21:34
Care to name any CBs under the age of 21 who are playing in the Premier League that you consider better?!

06 May 2026 16:55:24
Ports, I've made this point several times. Heaven is a teenager and Yoro is just 20, so they are a long way off in terms of experience.
There are very few CBs of that age in the EPL that excel. They still have to develop physically, and still need game experience, which will develop their positional sense.
I'm not aware of too many CBs that age that flourish in any league, least of all the EPL.
Lots of time for them to improve.
I agree on de Ligt and Martinez, they are both unreliable, and in Martinez's case, imo, he is too small to play CB in the EPL.

So I think we do need another CB for sure, as the 2 young guys need help for another season or 2.
Really, Yoro was too expensive, as he will only be maturing when his contract is expiring.
Can't judge a CB as not being good enough until he has matured, and of all the pairings, it's the hardest to play as a young man imo.

06 May 2026 17:46:48
Don't have to look far, I would say even Heaven is playing better than Yoro, and it appears even Carrick thinks so too.

Kid at Barca, what's he, 18/19, Cubarsi? He is probably one of the best in the world, miles ahead of Yoro.

It's a stretch for anyone to say that, even at Yoro's age, he is the best in the world.

I agree, it's a difficult position to play at a young age, but not so bad if you have an experienced head next to you, and you can't play 2 youngsters there. To me, Yoro is just not good enough (whoever sanctioned 70 million... well). I would rather pin my hopes on Heaven if I had to choose.

I always hear ed002. Do not get into the finances ?

06 May 2026 18:45:32
True Angel. Regardless of cost, he is still nowhere near the best in the world, even at his age. He is OK, but that is about it... as he has not even played for his country yet. I'm sure if he was the best in the world, even at his age, he would have played quite a few games for his country, or at least been in the squad many times by now.

So I stick by my view: we may have 5 CBs, but 4 of them are just not good enough. The 5th, Heaven, is the one with the potential to stick with. So if a bid comes in for any of the other 4, I would get rid; I would hardly miss any of them.
