While you can't anticipate those error by Onana, but surely the manager has to get that he hasn't the players to play his system. He needs to adapt it until he gets those players in. Watching today and against Southampton l was nervous everything they attacked. Massouri, was back at RB for most of the game, Dalot stayed wide and higher than Bruno half the time, leaving 4 v 2 in midfield. We have players that can play the 4-4-2 or4-33.

Agree5 Disagree0

He adapts it and then he has to spend the begging of next year teaching the player he keeps, he sticks too it only the new players have to figure it out and they will suit the style more.

We’ve got the workrate now, and the desire. But not the ability. Say what you like about this team on paper but the sad truth is that the likes of Brighton, Fulham and Bournemouth have better squads than us. Shambolic decade of buying 3-4th choice options with a right couple of flops in there. But he needs a chance, he’s not got in one of his own targets yet.

The system isn’t the issue

The players who don’t work hard enough or can’t play a simple pass, don’t follow runners, get caught with a long balll, don’t stop crosses, or make mistakes

Everytime we make a mistake it leads to a goal

We have the worse forward line I’ve seen us ever have we don’t score enough goals.

The season will be up and down but we are seeing the limitations to the vast majority of these players that were constructed for 0 system.

Someone said that we aren’t in a relegation fight because we should easily pick up 6 wins between now and the end of the season, at least this week we picked up one of those wins, the others maybe a lot harder to come by.

You had absolutely no problem buying De Ligt.

Actually I think he’s been a pretty good signing….

we are numerically out numbered in midfield against most teams with this set up. You are asking 2 mids to have career days against 3 mids. It okay until we come up against teams who have no slouches in midfield and then we struggle.

Worst part of what is going on atm is we create very little and its moments of individual brilliance like amad. The players are better than what we are seeing, the system is making them look worse. Say what you want we never looked this bad game after game against decent teams at home even when our squad was full of injuries. Tactically we are failing atm and seems every team knows how to beat this system and hit us for a few.

I don't understand what people don't get about this squad.

THERE IS NO SYSTEM THAT WILL WORK WITH THEM.

How many different managers who have all tried different systems and tactics have we been through who have been successful with this squad?

We are reaping what the club have sown for the past decade.

We have a Frankenstein squad of players from various different managers bought to play in various different systems all cobbled together in a disjointed fashion.

There isn't a style of play that this group of players can all play to a high enough standard to get consistent results in the EPL.

There are maybe 7 or 8 players who can play the kind of football Amorim is trying to implement, but there aren't 11-15 players in this squad that can play a specific way (any specific way) that will get us the results we need.

At best Amorim or any manager could maybe pick half a team that can play the way they want.

This isn't even about the players not working hard enough, as in general our work rate has improved under Amorim. It's about ability.

Players don't have the skills, either in their feet or in their head. They lack concentration, they switch off, they make mistakes, they panic and give the ball away, they have poor touches, they make bad decisions, they take too long on the ball.

They just aren't good enough. It's that simple. It's not about the manager changing his tactics, but about the club changing the players who have let us down time and time and time again.

I’m sure we all understand Shappy, just venting.

20 Jan 2025 07:44:06
Well said Shappy. This is the time for everyone to hold their nerve and be patient.

It's not fun watching Utd get dismantled by Southampton and Brighton but there's been a lot of entertainment the last few weeks and that's why I watch football.

I'm actually enjoying the ride.

I’m just pleased there are four dreadful sides worse than us in the league, and 2-3 marginally worse than us right now, otherwise we’d be going down

This system is exposing all the worst traits of our squad though. I get it’s pointless Amorim changing his style to suit this lot, but appointing him in November when he has no chance or money of improving this lot was yet another farcical decision by INEOS. Should have kept ten Hag or Ruud for the season, and made changes in the summer given they didn’t have the balls to do it last summer.

The club is an utter disgrace on and off the pitch. I went on Sunday, and all the goals are just comical. The lack of concentration, positioning sense, and rhetorical gaping holes all across the midfield are insane.

But isn’t it a process?

?.

20 Jan 2025 09:39:17
A 3-4-3, No matter who you sign will always mean you can have only two CM's in the middle. Wing backs are crap. don't know who scouted Mazouri. One ball over the top and he was pants. If you don't pin your opposition wingers then they would always run behind your wing backs, Its basic football. What was amorim thinking?

20 Jan 2025 10:30:27
Do you even listen to what the manager has said?

20 Jan 2025 10:53:24
Bang on the money, Shappy.

The issue is as someone mentioned above, the overall squad. Mention of Fulham, Bournemouth, Brentford, Brighton, Forest, these are all squads that have been assembled with a direction in place. They have suffered together and come out the other side, and are now stronger as a result. United are in a period of suffering, and it will continue until the end of the season, at the earliest.

It appears the axe will be wielded on a few players over the summer, finally.
I suspect next season will be a period of bedding in new arrivals and some final additions for those who make this summer's cut, plus the integration of a few from the youth ranks. The target, make Europe for the 26/27 season.

This will continue being a process until we see the process through, and the more and more we reset (swap manager), or change path (change setup/ formation), the longer the process will take to complete until we are at the level of the likes of Brighton.

I've ended with Brighton as they have a complete setup that just keeps going, yes they'll have blips (this season I think they went 8 games without a win), but they get through it and move on, no lingering doubts, just a blip that they overcome together and keeps going.

Would rather Amorim found out about the players this season which was already a write off, than turning up in the summer and finding out about the fragile mentality of the players during the following season.
