Rumour in Spain Casemiro medical Friday.

Let’s hope we can get him registered in time for the Liverpool game. He’s going to have to get used to humiliating losses sooner or later, so why not straight away?

Schweinsteiger 2.

Another stupid buy if it goes ahead for the kind of figures quoted. Real Madrid will be laughing all the way to the bank. They are buying young top quality players and we are desperately trying to buy anyone. He has been a great player but its dubious he can stand the rigours of playing in the Premier League and the pace of it will likely catch him out too.

Just play our youngsters. Give them a chance. At least they will be opening to listening to and taking on board what the manager wants.

If he does join, will be the best midfielder we will have, by a mile. I don't know or care too much whether the amounts mentioned makes it a stupid buy or not. Someone who plays at that level won't join United without something giving the other way.

Jesus we’ve spent all summer moaning about signings now we’re closing in on one of best defensive midfielders in the world! Yet we’re still moaning! Desperate for this type of player! Forget the money the clubs a shambles, until their gone it always will be! They’ve saved easily over 1.5 million a week this summer with outgoings so let’s spend some on a top top player, a character too. Would of loved a 21 year old version but so be it! Casemiro is fantastic!

Overweight, and will be found out in England. Also no chance of him playing on Monday.

Football

I think its too much of a general statement bud and so many things influence a players decision in terms of where to go.

we can sign most players with the exception of some when they have a choice between the two Spanish giants and Psg who blow everyone out of water with money but that's a house of cards and toy for the Qatari's but Uefa let's them get away with it.

I think our shortcomings is related to the way the club is structured, the unstable environment and the the decision making and ever changing mangers.

Not long ago people took less money to play for us and other teams would would pay over and above to get them. we are doing that now and hopefully some good results on the pitch, stability and a plan will change that.

He’s 30 right?
Plays well for Madrid, but surrounded by good players so helps. I’d be concerned that his severe lack of pace will be a problem say in front of an equally slow Maguire.

Casemiro. The video of Woodward saying everyone would be trembling when they see Schweinsteiger on the team sheet comes to mind. The club has lost its soul and it’s mind.

Incredible signing if it happens.
We’ve all said the side lacks leaders - the bloke is a warrior. I’d be throwing the captain’s armband his way, too. He won’t accept mediocre effort in others.

I can't recall a recent Utd transfer where a player comes in and makes his debut a few days later. If we get him this weekend I'll be amazed if he starts against Liverpool.

Nothing wrong with the player as such and if we needed to put the cherry on top of the cake in our squad to challenge then would be excellent.

But we are nowhere near challenging for anything. So signing a 30 year old who by the time we are ready will be at best past it or much more likely with us retired and coaching somewhere.

This summer I expected United to look to start signing players they believe would be capable of growing into key parts of our next side challenging. Malacios was a prime example of what I thought we would be getting.

To sign a 30 year old DM for a team 4 to 5 years from competing is a waste in my opinion. Who was it said yesterday Man Utd should be looking to sign the next Casemiro, that was nailed on. This guy will never help us win anything but will stop us chasing someone who could.

{Ed001's Note - that is the nail being hit on the head I think Oak.}

Really don't see why everyone is griping. He's an upgrade on what we have. We need bodies in midfield, and it ain't my money being spent. Still a class player and all signings are a gamble to some extent.

this team lacks bottle.

lacks work rate, leaders, lacks personality

when the going gets tough these players crumble because they are weak mentally.

lets blast the club for signing someone who has all the qualities we have been looking for and needed in a midfielder for dm for years that doesn't lack the above

30 is nothing considering his injury record, he is in his prime years.

they may have been other options out there that might not have worked, no one knows if any transfers will work but its a positive signing.

Spenno. Iirc, Martial’s debut came against Liverpool. Probably his best performance in a United shirt too.

Can we give him a chance before we write him off.

He’s a damn good player, anytime I’ve watched him I’ve been impressed. Let’s see how he does.

We can’t cry out for a bit of character then not want him. Yes I’d rather we signed someone who’s the next casimero but I am happy with this.

Oak totally agree with you and others who doubt this signing if it happens is what we need. If all the other problem areas were sorted too then yes spend £60m on a 30yr old but otherwise no way.

Both full back positions need sorting and we need a top striker who can be a focal point for us up top. If you told me that we would have a back three, Martinez and Casemeiro playing in midfield with Erikson and Bruno and then have a front three of Anthony sanchez and a top striker then that might work

On another note how do we integrate the younger players line Garnacho Savage and even Garner

We had a fantastic U23 team who won the youth Cup for the first time in years. I would much prefer to invest in them and give some of them a chance than pay stupid money for players patently not the best or getting too old.

We’ve needed a DM for years, literally the one thing everyone on here has agreed on, we are signing one, a very very good one, the negativity would be astounding if I hadn’t been on here so long.

Salford,

Savage and Iqbal will be ready in 3 or 4 years, they are nowhere near ready yet and I don’t know if you’ve noticed but we are bottom of the league NOW. Casemiro is everything we need in the midfield at the moment, maybe they think he will help the young kids flourish, I certainly think he will. Bring him on.

19 Aug 2022 11:38:05
I am not griping as he is an improvement to what we have but that's a low bar.

I was hoping to see the start of process and complete rebuild around a much younger 21-26 age type signings, which demonstrated a clear plan and you could see how each piece fits and tick the box and not worry about a certain position and look at other areas.

This looks like a short term band aid, which we need to come back to and address again in the near future.

I may be wrong and he may turn out to be great for 5 years but I doubt it. I think RM would not have spend the kind of money they did last 2 windows, if he was good for another 4 to 5 years and they see him everyday in training and know more than any of us.

Redseven, the point I was making (as a few people had said they hoped he would play against Liverpool) was that players don't tend to sign and make their debut a few days later in this league.
Out of interest, Martial signed on deadline day 1st Sep 2015, and made his debut on sun 13th against Liverpool, so almost a fortnight later.

Will improve Fred and be expensive but necessary stopgap while United sort out scouting structure and develop youngsters

Desperately need to let Ronaldo go. Reports saying preseason mood deflated after he returned and he’s being uncooperative in trying

However being held hostage by Joel glazer because of commercial value.

Shweinsteiger was 33/ 34 when he joined he wasn't 30. This guy is younger then KDB and he's keeping the pace ok.

For me, he'll free up Fred to go chaos mode further up the pitch where he actually does his best work and a mid 3 of Casemiro, Fred and Fernandez works really well on paper. Fingers crossed it works as well in real life.

It would be another sign of the mess we are in,

There isn't any doubt this guy is an upgrade on what we have now. So may help us build to get a place or two higher up the table now but we aren't looking to consolidate for 10th! Or we shouldn't be, we should be using our money to unearth players that are going to be a part of a team which can challenge. This guy isn't ever going to be part of a United team that challenges.

We have spent ten years with a below average squad and tinkered with it and never making the wholesale changes that are needed. This isn't what we need it's just another step I pur pursuit of mediocrity. Again not saying he is an average player I am saying that this is an expensive short terms solution to try and bring us to par and no more.

This isn't the move of a team trying to build a team to win, this is a move that is designed to keep pur heads above water but mako g this deal is going to hurt us actually building a team to win. What's it going to cost overall this transfer? In excess of 100 million in fees and wages, that should be spent on players that will form a piece of the jigsaw of a winning or challenging for honours team, not to sneak a place in the Euro conference nonsense cup.
