Ed if you are about can you please give your opinion on where we are with negotiations with contreau (if we are having any)

Keep reading conflicting reports about him being close to signing then that we are going to miss out.

I have been coming onto to this site for years but haven't posted much in the last few years.
I have a theory on the Dalot signing, everyone is of the opinion that he has been as an understudy to Valencia but from watching the brief glimpses of him that I could find he has played most of his first team games at LB and I actually believe he is going to be understudy to Ashley Young.
He has good delivery from his right foot and tends to cut back on his right foot and curl a ball into the box almost identical to what Ashley Young does to good effect when he gets forward.
So I believe we will not be signing a LB this summer and will start the next season with Ashley Young at LB and Valencia RB.

Devil Dust

1.) 06 Jun 2018 08:52:21
Dalot is basically darmians replacement. I wouldn't expect to see him play too often and it could be on either side for now.

Call me old fashioned but I prefer left footed left backs and right footed rightbacks. A right footer player on the left you just show them down the line all the knowing they can't cross with their left.

2.) 06 Jun 2018 09:03:43
He is primarily a RB but played on the left after Porto LB first choice Alex Telles injury.

3.) 06 Jun 2018 09:06:16
Denis Irwin may disagree with you on that one Schauzer and for the posters old enough and lucky enough to see Irwin, they'd probably all agree he has been our best LB for a number of years.

Also, the reason Young was so successful against Salah was because a lot of wingers now play on the opposite flank so when Salah cut in on his left foot, where Young was showing him, he was also going on to Young's strongest foot, his right!

4.) 06 Jun 2018 09:19:41
The thought of going into next season with ashley young and valencia as our two starting wingbacks.

5.) 06 Jun 2018 10:08:04
Ports - can't argue with the legend that is Irwin. But I would say Irwin was the exception to the rule for me plus he had giggs in front of him swinging in lefties which was a help, my memory might be fading but in my minds eye I can recollect that irwin could swing in a cross with his left aswell?

6.) 06 Jun 2018 11:49:15
Really can't do another season of Valencia and Young as our wingbacks. Not to mind Jones and Smalling as our center backs. If there is a God.

7.) 06 Jun 2018 14:04:47
There is nothing more frustrating to me to see left backs cut back in on their right to cross. It’s predictable, easier to defend, and gives centre halves times to set themselves. We need more quakity crosses from the byline on both flanks.

8.) 06 Jun 2018 16:33:44
Id like to see Young play at Right back. I think he has more to offer than Valencia.

I can't believe what I have just read. United are offering Evra €85,000 to stay.

Are they for real?

How in gods name can people at the club not see what a liability he is?

The man is responsible directly or indirectly for a massive percentage of the goals we concede he hides from his duties of defending by galloping forward and not even trying to get back. He tucks in so close to the CBs that our left wing does his defending for him.

If he gets a new contract we may aswell forget about next season already!

Devil Dust

1.) If true I guess that rules out any LB coming in.
And it all starts again.
Not posted for a while, its good to be back.
Where's Kloot :-)

2.) If Vidic and Rio weren't leaving I would've said let Evra go. But remember this we are going to need someone like Evra(leadership/characther) in the dressing room atleast. So yes everything in football is not just related to what happens on the field alone and this is Giggs last season as well, which makes it 4 massive characters and leaders leaving the united dressing room. I think giving Evra an extra year is a good thing for our youngster in the back four coming through and Moyes will sign an lb for next season. And yes evra is the last person I want starting at LB but please don't disrespect one of our best LB's we had in the PL era. He doesn't deserve it .

3.) Even if he gets a new contract we will sign a new left back, I can only think that Moyes wants to sell Buttner and keep Evra as back up to mentor Shaw. That would be the only explanation.

4.) Just because someone wrote it doesn't mean it's true, just like 99% of the things wrote about United. I really hope this one isn't true.

5.) If Evra stays, then Evra plays.

We need to let him go or we will not improve. It's quite simple.

6.) Can't see Shaw coming and Evra wouldn't make a good mentor anyway. I can imagine it, "don't bother running back Luke someone will cover you".

7.) Early signs of a struggle to get players in

8.) Dear God no! If Evra, Rio or Giggs are still part of our playing staff next season I will be joining the Moyes out brigade. All 3 are way way WAY past their best. Rio and Evra wouldn't be good to keep around the dressing room as they are too full of their own self importance for me, it would be a huge disruption to the new side we are trying to build. Let's cut them lose and they can go wherever they want.

{Ed025's Note - they can join the home guard.. :)

9.) Good point about the old guard ed, Everton usually do take our castoffs anyway. :-)

10.) Well a reporter in California has said all along that the Glazers are only interested in money and there won't be a lot of money to spend, also Moyes is going and Evra offered a new contract, he said that days ago

11.) That reporter in California must be a proper Sherlock Holmes, imagine deciphering that business men with no interest in football are only in it for the money.

A few points from last night. All in all United did well against an excellent Bayern team Tactics were spot on and we looked dangerous on the break.
Now the problems were first of all Rooney was no where near fit and how he got 90 minutes is a mystery. is Moyes afraid to drop or sub him.
Next Evra yes he scored a screamer then fell asleep and was directly or indirectly at fault for all 3 conceded.
He left Kagawa to do his defending for him all night and just stayed inside the penalty area every time Robben got the ball letting him do what he wants. Why didn't Butner start after his performance in the first leg I would say Bayern were delighted to see him starting.

Our midfield is what it is but I really hope the Shaw rumours are true.

After been at the Liverpool game Sunday and watching a terrible lethargic and containing style of play it was great to see United playing with freedom last night.

However the fact we were 2 down took all the tactical ineptitude Moyes has shown so far this season out of this game. For the the first time this season the team were not shackled with the burden of worrying about the opposition first and were IMO playing the way they only know how, straight forward tactics of taking the game to the opposition creating chances and getting shots on target.

This game unfortunately for me only strengthened my belief that Moyes is strangling the life out of this club with hie usual negative tactics.

Departing the emerald Isle Saturday for my first United v Liverpool match this weekend. Starting to get excited now the atmosphere should be electric we need to put a dent in the pools season and give us something to shout about.

Come on United!

Devil Dust

1.) Enjoy it mate and very jealous:))We will win and it should be some atmosphere.

2.) I had tickets for it, Devil, but had to give them up for my wee cousin's wedding in Slane.

Utd/Liverpool and Spurs/Arsenal pretty much covers all the football supporting males (and a few women), in our large clan.

Throw in Ireland/France, and it's a humdinger of a sporting weekend.

Enjoy yourself, fella :)

3.) Cheers lads. am actually not a million miles from Slane Stevie. Really looking forward to Rugby too great weekend ahead for the Irish :)

4.) I see no reason why we can't win. We played well against them in the Cup and I think the lads are up for it this time - the West Brom game was very positive. Less confident for turning Olympiacos around or beating City though.

5.) Went to my first double last year (home/away) definitely the best atmosphere bar the first hour of the Madrid game last year.

6.) 10 Mar 2014 21:23:18
I think the Greek game will show us what Moyes is made of. They can just sit back and defend in depth playing for a goalless draw packing men behind the ball. Which is probably what they will do. We have to score, we have to attack. Does moyes have it in him.

Maybe cause he has played now in Italy for a few years winning the scudetto for the last few years I think perhaps he fancies a new contract and a new challenge and maybe likes the idea of working with LVG.

Rebic looks very ordinary, no pace, no creativity but thankfully for Jose he is a work horse and will track back. The guy was worth a fraction of what he is now prior to the world cup and he did very little IMO to have seen his value inflate as much as it has.
Maguire I'm on the fence about I don't think he actually reads the game very well but he is good in the air and can be dangerous from set pieces, worth £65m though?

The current crop (collectively) of players are simply not good enough for Man United.

They can't just sit and wait for the season to completely fizzle out they need to act now while there is a still a chance to salvage it.
Really how much worse could Giggs do til the end of the season, Old Trafford has completely turned on LVG and changes need to be made now!
