A lot of rumours regarding a move for Benjamin Sesko today. While I belive it's just to fill column space because Mbeumo seems to be nearly done, I would love to see a move for him materialise.

Looks to be a top prospect, although whether or not he’d end up being just another Hojlund remains to be seen.

I can see what there is a lot of hype around Sesko, he has all the qualities that should make him one of the best strikers in the world. Tall, strong, quick, technically gifted and has a cracking shot on him.

Yet for all that potential he looks a few years away from being able to bring it all together into consistent top level performances. While his goal record on paper looks promising (13 goals in 2400 league minutes), that is in the Bundesliga where goals seem to be easier to come by, while playing for one of the top three sides in the league.

When you dig a little deeper with Sesko I think it becomes clear that he needs another 2-3 years of development before he's ready to be the first choice for one of Europe's top clubs. If he was being signed to be the back up to a top quality first choice striker then I can see the merit in that. But he shouldn't be signed to be the first choice option and have to deal with all that pressure, he just isn't ready for that. I think that might be why Arsenal ended up going for Gyökeres in the end.

We would be much better placed signing Ollie Watkins this summer, he's EPL proven, and is ready and capable of being our first choice striker and carrying that burden, maybe even flourishing with it.

Yes he's not the long term answer, but he is probably the guy we need for the next 2-3 years to help carry us while the younger players in the squad develop into top players.

Maybe Chido Obi develops into a top player under Watkins wing, or maybe Højlund does (unlikely I think at this point) . Or maybe we end up having to sign another top striker in 3 years time to replace Watkins, that might be Sesko if he's developed into that player at that time, or maybe it'll be someone else.

We need to be careful about only signing players who'll be top players in 3 years time to help us (hopefully) challenge for and win the title then. We also need players who are ready to do it right now and take the pressure off the younger players in the squad giving them the space to develop into the players they potentially can be.

Watkins might not be the sexy name that most fans want us to sign, but he might just be the right player at the right time for us.

Shappy, he’s got a similar strike rate as Ekitike who Liverpool are about to sign for £70m and a similar if not better strike rate than Kolo Muani. We need a striker, there’s no doubt about that. Whoever comes in now has the added bonus of Cunha and Mbuemo who will both hopefully add goals to this team.

Hojlunds confidence is shot to bits but not all young strikers will crumble at United. Sesko looks like he has enough about him to cope.
