Even I'd much rather he leaves now, think he's really no longer useful. Perhaps (slight chance) that he is and the club just hasn't given him enough game time. I'd bring in Eriksen or Isco in his place if he does decide to leave. Not that he does much for the team anyway.

Now the FdJ deal is stalling. I fail to understand why Man United don't just walk away. We've already wasted enough time.

Because ten hag really really wants him.
With our huge and massive weakness in central midfield, ETH probably feels that parachuting in FDJ would speed up the process of getting the team used to his style of football a lot.
Of course the club could sign an alternative and they surely proposed that to ETH but it would take a lot more time to train that alternative into ETH style than simply plugging FDJ would.
At least that's how i think of the situation.

Im not too worried about john mourtagh and richard arnold not managing to convince fdj to sign their job was to bet an offer accepted so that eth can speak with the player he knows and who knows him and explain how important he is to his plans at man utd let's be honest the only reason at the moment for fdj to leave Barcelona for us is he knows trusts and likes playing for eth.
John and rick can continue their european tour and can fly to amsterdam and try and get the next player over the line.

That role is so so pivotal in EtH’s system. FdJ did share quite a bit of the defensive burden with Schone at Ajax meaning Fred would be decent enough in the interim for it to work. Last season Gravenbach played the role but Alvarez was required to do way more of the defensive work. If we go for someone more in the Gravenbach mould (FdJ is a rare talent and literally perfect for the role) we’ll need a much better CDM. I don’t really know who’s out there that’s available with the attributes required. I thin EtH was all in for FdJ as it fixes his immediate issues with a single player.

The club has been making an embarrassment of themselves for the last 9 years.
They’ve damaged relationships with other clubs with their silly approach to transfers.
Players are wary having seen how going to United can result in career stagnation.
We have a fractured squad, and no one is going to be tempted to join that s**t show.
But, above all, what’s happening is the club gave Ole a permanent job and hundreds of millions to spend. He built a team of wasters that are so far off challenging for a title that top class players are reluctant to join. On top of this, the club is still messing up transfers in cases where players might actually be willing to join.
We are in the same position Liverpool were in the late 90s, early 00s. Big club that has fallen so far, yet still hasn’t come to terms with what is needed to build itself back up.

Last week De jong deal was almost complete, yesterday he was not for sale, today he is moving to Chelsea. A lot of these reports are simply rumours, people need to calm down and watch things play out. We are all desperate for the board to make good signings, but the truth is that they have almost never been reliable so I won't want to lose sleep over something I have no control over.

Spot on Danny P, the other responders make different points to you so don’t really ‘respond’.
However you are spot on and it’s so frustrating watching our club being run like this and being a cash cow for the Glazers. I will always support the team because like everyone here it’s part of me but it’s a shame the protests didn’t continue and force them out.
Hopefully ETH is Sir Alex Mk 2 because we need a genius to guide this club back to winning ways.

Spenno it’s different convincing a player to come from another team and having one that doesn’t want to be here.
You can sell the project to a player to come join it’s a lot easier to convince someone to leave a club that doesn’t want him that needs his wages off the books than it is to keep someone who wants to leave
IMO anyway.
