Spence available for £30m? Seems a decent deal for an England international.

It's a no from me. He was abysmal during the England group stages. Even though he played better during the knockouts, I don't think he is good enough at the top level.

No way Jose.

The lb question interests me.

If Rashford is staying (big if), we have a player with huge potential in Dorgu. Written off too soon, but there's a player there. Why not develop him as left back?

He's a player that has shown great potential under Carrick in the lw role. That's where his talent is. He offers a very different option to Cunha.

The question is why would we sabotage the development of a promising young player to cater to a player who completely checked out of the club?

I still believe Rashford will leave. We all know how he feels, and the club's preference. It may be a cut-price deal, but we would also lose the £18M wages.

Clubs are not getting the players they want. The last 2 weeks of August will see all sorts of shenanigans.

I don't see Spence as any better than what we have. It seems silly to spend good money on a player who doesn't immediately improve us and doesn't have the potential development to grow into a player who'll improve us in the future.

We either need to sign a top level LB, or a young talented LB with massive potential to become a top level LB in the next 2-3 years.

I think Dorgu is a great player to have in your squad. His best performances have come when playing as a LW player rather than a LB or a LWB. He's also a unique profile of winger in our squad, someone who's comfortable going around the outside and stretching teams, while delivering good crosses. Cunha likes to drift, and in truth is probably better playing just off/behind the striker in a free role, while Rashford is very much a wide forward who'll look to cut in and shoot. All of our RW players are left footed and have a tendency to cut in. This means Dorgu is the guy who, even without touching the ball, helps the attack by stretching play and creating more space centrally.
I'm sure there will be some games where it might suit playing him at LB, or he might need to play there to cover.

But I think he helps the team most when he plays further forward.

I wouldn't rule out Rashford leaving yet, although the chances of that happening appear to be decreasing.

We are actually in an odd position with our forwards. We have good quality in depth in most positions:

LW: Cunha, Dorgu, Rashford.
CF: Sesko, Zirkzee, Rashford.
RW: Mbeumo, Amad, Lacey.
No.10: Bruno, Mount, Lacey.

I think Rashford leaving actually means we have more need at CF (as Zirkzee also seems likely to leave) than at LW, especially if we sign a LB meaning Dorgu can be used more exclusively at LW.

If I was going to place money on our signings between now and the close of the window I'd say we will definitely sign a LB, then it will depend on outgoings.

If Rashford and Zirkzee leave, then I'd expect us to sign a ST/CF, and then maybe a youth midfielder like Louis Page for depth. If Rashford/Zirkzee stay, then we probably don't sign a ST/CF and instead maybe move for a more experienced/established midfielder like Manu Kone.
