Unless I'm missing something, with Brighton losing today only Bournemouth, if they win all their remaining games and we lose all ours, can prevent Champions League football from returning to OT next year. I don't see that happening. So congratulations to Carrick, the players and the new management team which undoubtedly made some mistakes but rectified them decisively and in a timely fashion. Contrast that to the Glazers enduring Ed Woodward's catastrophic reign, and then after his departure, installing equally incompetent insiders.

Let's hope this summer's trading, which will be bolstered by additional funds, is as successful as last's. With the end of the old financial restrictions and the new squad cost rules, after departures, we should have at least £250m in new squad costs available to us. One £75m player on £200k a week represents around £35m a year. So plenty of leeway to replace Cas and bolster the squad elsewhere. FFP isn't going to hold us back, but our debt laden balance sheet and limited available cash flow, especially in the short term, might. The club may be looking to see which player assets can be offloaded to generate some short term cash flow before ECL revenues start kicking in. There may be a few surprises.

1 point to confirm it, but realistically it's done. That was his remit when he replaced RA, and he's got the job done, so fair play to him.

We appointed OGS once so we can't appoint Carrick.
