German - "Also re above not quite sure what makes you think Gyokores would score more in EPL than Oshiman…. that's purely a pluck out the sky with zero back up, but a guess. "

Not a guess at all — there’s actually solid reason to think Gyökeres could outscore Osimhen in the Prem.

Gyökeres has a much higher shot conversion rate (35.9%) than Osimhen (22.6%), and needs fewer shots per goal (2.78 vs 4.42). He’s also way more accurate — 71% of his shots are on target compared to Osimhen’s 50%.

Plus, he’s already played in English football and done well in a physical league like the Championship, so there’s less risk in terms of adapting.

So yeah — not a pluck out the sky. The numbers and context actually back it up.

{Ed001's Note - Osimhen's numbers without penalties are not as impressive as I had imagined they would be, it must be said.}

LOL, sounds like total claptrap…. Different leagues, different circumstances
Different level of defenders, different level of Goalkeepers. Etc etc

Your own line…. ‘there’s actually solid reason to think Gyökeres could outscore Osimhen in the Prem. ”. Think and could …. says it all

Plus world apart championship to EPL…. Rasmus would score in the Championship, even Zirkee at a push….

So like I said total pie in the sky that to say One will outscore the other which ever way round in the EPL.

I would rather we stick with what we have than buy Oshiman. I'm not sure he has that "one for all" team attitude that Amorim wants.

14 Jun 2025 09:37:13
I agree Banjoe.

Do German pigeons play chess?

14 Jun 2025 10:51:19
I think Amorin might know him a little better than us?

14 Jun 2025 13:50:47
@Ed001

I think you mean GYOKERES Tris? No? 19 penalties last season. 54 goals in total. 100% conversion rate for the penalties though.

{Ed001's Note - I think both maybe fit, but Osimhen's numbers were posted on the Liverpool site a few days ago and he never once beat 20 without penalties.}

"Stick with what we have". Ah lads seriously?! We most certainly need a much better striker than we have. It's blazingly obvious. Osimhen, Gyokeres, Ekitike, Mateta, . any of them are massive upgrades.

In his last two seasons in the Championship Gyökeres got 17 and 21 league goals respectively. For a side that was not one of the strongest sides in the division.

He has shown he can score in England where football tends to be more physical than on the continent. He has also shown that he can settle in England.

He has scored in Liga Nos at a ridiculous rate, and has managed to score at a similar rate in European competitions. Including a hat-trick against Man City.

He also knows Amorim, understands his system, and has excelled in it.

He is not just a slightly better option than Osimhen, but a significantly better option. Especially when you factor in the wages Osimhen is demanding, The fact that Osimhen has fallen out with pretty much every club he's been at, his poor injury record, and finally the fact that he would become potentially a third key attacking player who would leave halfway through the season for the AFCON (along with Amad and potentially Mbeumo if we get that deal done) .

People arguing about whether Gyökeres could score in the EPL have a valid point, but to then put for Osimhen who has scored a lot of his goals in France and Turkey seems more than a little churlish. Even the 65 goals in 108 games he played in Italy can still be questioned. A lot of strikers have come from Italy and struggled in the EPL (Shevchenko, Crespo, Mutu, Jovatic, even Balotelli to a large extent) . While decent strikers in the EPL have gone and looked great in Serie A (Lukaku for example) .

The reality is that there are very few top strikers available, even less that are willing to join us over other options they will have right now, and absolutely none that are proven top quality scorers in the EPL.

The one that comes closest to meeting all those criteria is Gyökeres, who while not proven in the EPL has proven himself in England in the Championship.

Everyone else has the same drawbacks as Gyökeres, along with several others Gyökeres doesn't have.

He is the best guy available, if we can get a deal done then it'll represent us signing the best viable option available. That doesn't mean he can't flop, just that he is far less likely to compared to the other options available.

14 Jun 2025 16:11:51
Either one could flop, no one knows but my concern with Gyokores is if he is so good, no one been beating the door down to sign him, I hope we get either I don’t really care which I don’t care what wages they get, I just want a goal scorer…. What I was pointing out is someone saying One will score more than the other in EPL don’t care which way round you say it is…it’s just pie in the sky…. But most pundits ex players managers all seem to prefer Oshiman as the better all round striker, jeez even Rio said take away the bullying of what Gyokores does and won’t be able to do against EPL defenders he not got much else!
I don’t care who we get even Mateta, I’m just not having going into next season with Zirkee as our striker… or Rasmus.

14 Jun 2025 17:40:50
This argument could go on all summer. But in my opinion the argument is irrelevant as I seriously doubt either player is going to be signed by the club.

14 Jun 2025 18:31:50
Ignoring the cost any of osihmen, gyokeres, ekitike, mateta, John duhran on loan etc etc will be better than what we had this season.
I don't massively care which one so long as they work the way Amorim wants them to and ideally sets a good example for obi.

This year was so bad I just want an upgrade across the whole front line.

14 Jun 2025 19:51:25
Gyokeres if off the list according to reports. Doesn’t wish to join United.

Move on and don’t give him a second thought if that’s the case.

15 Jun 2025 09:42:08
2toms, he did NOT say that he didn't want to join us. He said, in answer to a question, that a move to Arsenal would be a dream move. Somewhat different.
