What are people's thoughts on Jadon Sancho?

For me he looks like a player struggling to adapt to a new side but he looks like he is carrying the weight of his transfer fee and the expectations of the fans on his shoulders every time he takes to the field.

The problem is the longer he goes without a goal or an assist the bigger that pressure will get.

Clearly there is an excellent player in him, and I do feel that the other players and himself aren't on the same wavelength just yet.

He finds good pockets of space but isn't passed to, or plays good give and goes but never receives the return ball. His movements are good, but he is struggling to get into the game. For that I think his teammates are as much to blame as he is.

When it starts to click I think he will explode and become a key player for us. However, I think he needs careful management until that moment arrives. An arm around the shoulder, some positive words in training and get the other players on the same wavelength as him. That only comes from working together on the training ground and on the pitch.

I know some people might feel that the chopping and changing of his position isn't helping. Maybe it isn't. But over the past 3 years at Dortmund he played around 40% of his minutes on the right, 35% of them on the left and around 25% in the No.10 role behind the main striker. Getting similar numbers of goals and assists from all areas of the pitch. So it's something he is certainly more than capable of, and he was moved around a bit at Dortmund to fit others into the starting line up.
However, I do agree that while he is more than capable in any of those positions it can't help his teammates settle into a rhythm with him when he is popping up all over the pitch and not in one specific area.

I think some time in December or January something might start to click and by March his tough start will be a distant memory.

Be good start to actually play him in his position. The position we spent 75 mil on him to fill.

Exactly. Only shows to me once again Oles lack of plan and tactics which you see regularly.

We spent 12 months chasing him and were prepared to spend up to 90 million on him which would indicate we had a position in mind for him, we had scouted him, we knew what made him succesful at Dortmund and then when he gets here as with the other outfield players it seems to be a case of "right lads, its Villareal/ Wolves/ Wham/ that round thing is the ball try and get it in their net in the next 90 minutes, off you go, good luck"

Buy first team starters and have a position that is their own and a plan of how to play in that system.

Sancho so far has been weak poor and like most of our players totally under performing and not racing his potential.
Its very early days he will improve hopefully when he get a run of games in the position he was brought in to play but he imo has no chance under wole.
He has hardly gone past a player since he signed.
He will improve with better coaching and with a more progressive manager with a clear plan and vision.
Hope he doesn't join the list of players that have stagnated under ole.

Sancho missed the pre-season and was one of the last to join full training.
This would have obviously contributed in him taking extra time to gel with team mates.

Yesterday, he looked much better in the second half when we were chasing for a goal.
However, he needs to be playing at a regular position initially to form an understanding with the fullback and gain confidence.

He’ll be fine shappy I think, he’s shown glimpses of what you expect, just think he needs that “ I’ve arrived “ moment and he’ll be away! I still think we’re unbalanced some how I’m not sure, I just feel it’s pogba that is the problem! He can only be accommodated wide left, last 15 last night when we had sancho and Greenwood wide it just feels more like us, pace, direct etc . For all his attributes pogba is slow, and likes to hold onto it!

I did keep harping on to all of you guys well before he signed that he wasn't as good as Greenwood on the right. Is actually a left winger. I also mentioned how his stats in a well drilled team in the Bundesliga wouldn't convert into the Prem in a team that's so poorly drilled and essentially has a very limited play style, that mainly relies on individual moments to win games. I also mentioned to you lot that we should've got Allan Saint Maximin or Sarr, and we even could've got Chiesa a few windows earlier. I don't know where those stats about him being predominantly a right winger come from, but the majority of his highlights show him scoring or assisting from the left. Basically half our fanbase just got convinced by his highlights.

That being said he's talented, and would fit well in a team that is coached properly to make preplanned runs, that actually break teams down. His strength is his consistent passing and short bursts of 1-2's in and around the box. He should be the man to help us break down teams that sit back and defend compactly. I doubt the manager is capable of getting the best out of him.

If he has been brought in to play from the left primarily i think its one of the worst transfer decisions the club has made and that's impressive considering how many they've made previously

Looking at our squad and thinking we lack right footed players cutting in from the left hand side is like going to the Sahara desert and saying there is a lack of sand.

I do worry what his role is and if he is actually suited to Ole ball?

For instance when he plays on the left is he being asked to cut inside, shoot and be a goal threat which is obviously more difficult when he plays on the right where he might be better deployed using his skill and quick feet in order to beat the full back and put crosses in for Ronaldo and Cavani.

He doesn’t quite have the explosive pace, power or strength to be able to give him the ball and expect him to create something out of noting. From what I’ve see so far he’s good on the ball. He can keep possession and wriggle out of tight spaces. He wants players around him to play quick one/ twos!

Obviously I have no insight as to what happens in training but there definitely seems to be a philosophy in which Ole just allows his attackers to express themselves. Our attacking play is more individualistic rather than any recognisable patterns of play.

Sancho just looks lost to me and is struggling to understand his role or how he can impact the team. In some regards not too dissimilar to VdB. Both have come from sides that like to keep possession and play with rotation.

It’s very early days but I would like Sancho to play from the right. I’d like him to use his quick footwork and skill to attack full backs in and around the box and create chances and opportunities for Ronaldo and even Bruno arriving in the box.

Switching him between positions so early in his Utd career has definitely not helped him settle in my opinion. I’m not convinced he’ll reach his full potential unless he understands how he fits in and what’s expected of him.

Chris pombal playing on the left is a problem nit generated by pombal us a problem generated by clown ole.

he needs to get the ball given to him fast, we are too slow,

if you look at the way dortmund attack it is fast and 1 or 2 touch, we like to dither and take an age which gives teams time to get back,

when he ends up getting the ball he always has to come back because the space has gone

he makes good runs but we never like to play that "risky pass"

Is he solely a RW? Was he bought to only play on the RW?

That seems like two big assumptions with little basis on which to make them other than own gut feeling.

What position was Martial signed for? LW or ST?

Was Pogba signed as a LW? While arguably his best performances have come from that role.

What about Rooney? He was playing as a ST for Everton yet arguably played his best coming in off the left in a United shirt. He used to play LW, ST, No.10 and even CM during his United career.

Sancho has as many goal involvements for Dortmund coming off the left as he does for playing from the right. Even though he actually played less minutes on the left.

It's a role he is more than capable and even very comfortable playing.

Sancho is often playing on the left currently because Greenwood's form on the right is too good to drop him, while our main/ best LW option is Rashford who is out injured.

After that it is Pogba. So with Rashford out who makes more sense to play on the left. Pogba who has played maybe 15 games there, or Sancho who has played 40+?

Would people prefer to see Greenwood dropped, Sancho played on the RW and maybe Martial coming in on the LW?

It just feels like another imaginary stick to beat the manager.

Sancho has made a career out of playing on both the right and the left, we currently have our best LW out injured and Greenwood is one of our most in form players on the right. If Jose was doing this I doubt any of the people complaining about it would be saying anything.

Bolger its a good post.
Ole will destroy his potential. If ole wants to play oleball then don't sign players that want to play football.
I can't think of 1 signing ole has made that have played better under him than in their previous clubs. Possibly Bruno but his stats at sporting were top notch.
Has telles? Has sancho? Has maguire? Has awb? Has amad? Has vdb? Has cavani? Did James? Did ighalo?
Shappy will tell you ddg disapproved under him martial has got steadily worse 1 goal in last 24 appearances. Lindelof has got worse bailly no improvement mctom stagnating, Fred no improvement. Shaw has played well under ole but looks even better under Southgate rash was doing well until he started getting shunted around the team and played while injured more awful management.

Imaginary stick? Did i imagine last nights failure?
Shappy ole did not play our most inform rw last night so that was the chance to see sancho there play Mason up top and martial wide (i can't see any reason why martial would play anywhere)
So maybe Mason deserves his slot on rw at the moment on form but he was not starting last night so once again you are talking in riddles and tying yourself in knots trying to defend dumb ass decisions.
Why would sancho not have started rw last night ahead of mata? Simply because the clueless one got it wrong. He picked the wrong team they lost he failed.

Mason was rested. So Martial up top was the only option. That left Lingard and Sancho to fill the wide roles. They switched a few times but I see no issue with playing Sancho on the left.

Sancho- was never 100% about him and his transition to epl/ manutd tbh. But I believe a good player can improve and get better playing with better players around him. At dortmund if he hit in a cross haaland was there, he played alongside bellingham among others - not martial, matic etc. He needs time, (late in after euros) as well as perseverance of a run of games with the better players. At the moment I think he'll come on fine, not a worldie but will go on to have a solid season.

My only concern with Sancho is whether Ole utilizes him to his strengths. The early games seeing him play deeper when not having the ball I am not sure what instructions were given to him.

He said to him when Fred gets the ball you need to get into a defencive position because he will lose it.

I believe quite a few have got Sancho wrong, He was purchased for the left mainly not the right side, I am shocked you can’t see that….
Just ask yourself even with Dozy Ole at the helm, you try to get your 80 million pound man in and feeling good, so you would be playing him in what you feel and Sancho feels is his best position, that’s where he is, left sided and occasionally interchangeable.
Problem is with him he really is no better then what we already got he was purchased on the hope he kicks on, but this is not the German League I’m afraid, even Southgate with England don’t rate him that highly!
Same with Bellingham looking great win German league, only a year ago struggling to play in championship now supposedly a world beater!
Get the united specs of lads.

Don’t worry Ken, there is only one winner when Ronaldo gets the hump and starts moaning to the hierarchy, Ole will then be gone.
