If ed002 is around, do you know if we're still interested in Fabinho? If so would it be as a right back or as a midfielder?

bradders1

{Ed002's Note - Fabinho has been of long term interest to Barcelona who would have liked to have taken him at some point in 2016 but that interest had drifted and they have their eyes on someone else now. Monaco previously made it clear they were open to a sale but interested clubs, includin Arsenal, had baulked at the asking price - set high as part payment will be due to Fluminense and Paulinia - although Chelsea were told by Vasilyev that Monaco want to keep Fabinho. However, this may not deter Manchester United turning their interest in to a firm bid - but the player has suggested it would be Manchester City that he would prefer. I would discount the previously interested Inter Milan and Chelsea but both Manchester City and Barcelona could also show interest - but he is not first choice for either.}

1.) 12 Mar 2017 10:06:05
Ed02 who is first choice rb for both manchester clubs and barca. Interested to know if we are all chasing the same targets. Many thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Manchester City would prefer Benjamin Henrichs whilst Barcelona want Nelson Semedo or Hector Bellerin but may settle for Joao Cancelo. Others including Manchester United are interested in Semedo but the asking price is likely going to make any move unlikely.}

2.) 12 Mar 2017 17:13:10
Hi ed02. That is great thank you. I know you mentioned our interest in Selmedo and Fabinho in your sharkopod and coleman on the everton page. Do we have any other rb targets please.

Many thanks as allways.

{Ed002's Note - David Alaba was the original first choice of Mourinho but the club were told that (a) he has a long term contract, and (b) if he moved to England he would only consider London.}

3.) 13 Mar 2017 09:52:30
ed02. I did see that you had mentioned Alaba.

many thanks for the info. fantastic as all ways

have a great day and i look forward to your next sharkopod.

{Ed002's Note - Thanks - enjoy your day.}

Hi ed,

bradders1

{Ed002's Note - This is the MU page - it is nothing to do with MU.}

1.) 24 Jun 2016 17:36:16
Ok thanks ed, I'll put it on the European page.

Can any of the eds confirm whether we have interest in Henrik mkh from Dortmund? I've read this morning that Dortmund are resigned to losing him and that his agent has said he would like to come to United. Thanks again.

bradders1

{Ed091's Note - interest is from another epl side, not united.

Just a quick question for everyone, eds included. Would people rather see us make signings or promote youth? A lot of people go on about how players are good prospects but I would say we have some good ones in the academy. Would people rather us go out and sign stones, tielemans, embolo or bring through players like Williams, pereira, fletcher. I for one would prefer academy, I always get more of a sense of pride seeing academy players do well.
Thanks in advance for your replys guys.

bradders1

1.) 05 Jun 2016 18:05:44
I'd say intergrate the two?

Bringing through our best young 'british' talent should be prioritised, but, talents like ie, Tielemans, Neves, Embolo should also be treated equally?

So yeah, British should be prioritised but if we discover the next 'Messi' and he's not British, we have to then look at?

2.) 05 Jun 2016 18:09:59
They are not of the same calibre as the people you are mentioning. old saying goes if good enough they will play. Don't really care where they come from as long we have high quality 11 on the pitch and no passengers whether from the academy or purchased.

3.) 05 Jun 2016 18:13:53
Signing ready made players is what we need imo.

Too much emphasis is put on youth by our clubs fans. I could understand it more if it was home grown youth from the area that were good enough (if you yourself came from the area) - but the majority of players are not from Manchester and in this day and age it doesn't matter as 99% of players don't play for their home town clubs no matter what age.

Also fans are from all over the place, so it seems weird to me to take pride in youth players that don't come from your area for a club where most fans don't come from that area. It's like me taking pride in a young goat herder from Outer Mongolia because I like the skill of goat herding - but there are better goat herders in Outer Mongolia that are just a few years older who I don't take pride in - Why not?

The 90's was the last decade of having pride/ hope in youth for football at this level for me. I think we need to move on otherwise we will be left behind by more ruthless rivals who don't give a monkeys about "pride in youth". We don't know these people, we just want the best 11 players on the pitch doing well I would have thought - otherwise why not support a local amateur team which will have home grown players, or a local U-21 team?

Youth players grow up fast - there isn't too much goodwill to players like Welbeck, Fabio, Rafael, Cleverly - people don't care now about those players. It will be the same for Lingard when Mourinho gets rid of him.

So if we want to compete we need to sign the best players, promote youth players only if they are better than the current seasoned pro in that position only. Just my view and it's why I would scrap EPL clubs from having youth teams now.

4.) 05 Jun 2016 18:26:38
I'm a big advocat of promoting youth, but it has to be done in the right way.

When Rooney and Ronaldo were making their steps into the first team they played nearly every week. Young players need to play to learn. But they played along side the likes of Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Neville, VDS, Giggs, Scholes, RvN ect. Top quality high calibre players who could carry the burden of a couple of youngsters make occasional mistakes.

We currently have Varela, TFM, CBJ, Lingard, Pereira, Martial, Depay and Rashford as young players who should be in and around the first team. IMO TFM, Martial and Rashford have the best chance of claiming regular minutes in the first team. Depay, CBJ and Lingard should be close behind.

What we need now is the top calibre players to help carry and guide those youngsters through games and the season.

5.) 05 Jun 2016 18:32:38
I'm not saying we shouldn't go for ready made players what I'm saying is people say that this player 'shows promise' and they're a 'good prospect' but they could turn out to be awful after spending 30 million on them. Would you not rather see a young player do well from our academy, no matter where they are actually from they have graduated from our academy. And beast your point about goat herders is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I feel more of a sense of pride when players who United have produced do well because I am a Manchester United fan, not just because i like the sport. You can't tell me that when lingard scored the FA cup final winner it wasn't more special with the fact that he's a Manchester lad who has been part of the club since he was about 7. I would find it weird if you didn't think that was different to a player who had just signed for the club and had no actual interest in the club or the fans but we're just paying the wage.

6.) 05 Jun 2016 19:23:01
Surely we must do both. If there are players out there who will significantly improve the team, then we have to get them. In addition, if we have any good youth players then we have to give them a chance.

7.) 05 Jun 2016 19:31:48
We need quality ready made players. Its all well and good promoting youth from the academy but they need guidance.

We also shouldn't have to completely rely on the youth to deliver week in week out as that's a lot of pressure on them.

We need the right balance.

8.) 05 Jun 2016 19:41:37
Bradders - You asked for opinions mate. I'm being totally honest when I say if the scorer has been Mata or Lingard it wouldn't have made any difference to me.

My point about goat herders is why would we be biased to youth? Or be biased to a particular locale? If neither of those factors change the overall outcome. In two years time do we start favouring a new academy striker over Rashford because he is younger and Rashford is then a "seasoned pro"? Where is the cut-off?

It doesn't make sense as the game is global now, the fans are global - I have never watched an U-21 Utd game in the flesh so I am talking only from my perspective.

When football was about representing a community then I totally agree there should be some sort of pride taken (like national sports to a small degree) . However Manchester United isn't about Manchester anymore for the vast majority, its about choosing a club and supporting it, irrespective of the set-up. If you work in the youth set-up and follow a kid from 12-21 then fair enough, but most fans don't know much about the youth team, they just see a player for the first time when he plays for the first team, so it's hard to feel any more pride about that than a new signing imo.

Personally I only feel pride if its down to my success, not something out of my control. Picking Utd as my team and us doing well can be a source of some pride, but going to specific players is a bit of a stretch, especially if it's based on things like age and where they were born.

I feel no different towards Rashford than I do towards Martial for example, I expect more from Martial because of his pricetag and better ability - are you saying we should support Rashford more because he is a product of our youth team? I can honestly say that I judge on attitude and performance now, so the academy youth ideal is kind of redundant unless you have a special interest and support all levels of the club, actively.

Giggs, Scholes, Nevilles etc, I would argue had they not been as good we wouldn't bang on half as much about our youth promotion now - probably why teams like City have a massive advantage because their fans don't hold the club to some old school ideals about having to promote youth over quality.

9.) 05 Jun 2016 19:53:24
If there good enough there old enough!

10.) 05 Jun 2016 20:14:57
rashford local, lingard local, williams local, borthwick jackson local, fletcher local, will keane local it does matter to a lot of fans who care about all levels of utd, s setup and great if there mancunian . then don't forget michael keane promoted to prem with burnley, danny simpson premier league champion. we obvious;y have to buy some quality additions to get back to where we should be, but that doesn't mean we have to overlook the youth team players. we haven't had much 1st team stars since class of 92 but we have some absolute gems in the u21,s and u18,s3,weve also got gomes who could be a world beater. add to them foreign acedemy players tuanzebe fosu mensa and boonen and the future looks bright. by all means add some quality but don't alienate the future stars we have, not many make it too the top with utd but there's a good 6-8 potential home grown stars if they keep progressing and get a chance.

11.) 05 Jun 2016 22:00:47
It matters to have local lads who make good and youngsters from abroad who arrive when young because then they will absorb what Man Utd is all about the ethos character and love of the club that matters otherwise you will just have players coming in for a few seasons mainly because the money is great like at City Chelsea and Arsenal. They may perform well like Tevez did but ultimately such players kiss the badge of every club they play for as if it's the Only one. As fans we like to feel the genuine passion of players who want to play for the Club and it's supporters not just for the money.

12.) 05 Jun 2016 22:57:14
Hereford - I think that Man Utd is long gone mate, our club has been swept up like the rest of them. The Glazers, Woody and even LVG have no idea what Man Utd is about (was about), the young kids coming through will follow mass media and the leaders at the club who typically are mercenaries out for as much cash and fame as they can get. Money talks now, heritage, morals are trumped by cash.

13.) 05 Jun 2016 23:02:15
Just wanted to add that I only think passion will come with penalties for failure - so performance related pay is a must with short contracts. Otherwise the game will continue to be devoid of passion/ heart for the most part.

We will then see less injuries, more effort and youngsters having good role models rather than the current celebrity part-time footballers.

14.) 06 Jun 2016 00:00:50
So basically all players are mercenaries but we should only sign mercenaries because everyone else signs mercenaries. Got ya.

15.) 06 Jun 2016 07:55:08
Beast, serious question why do you even support the club? Your so cynical and seem to have little to no love for the game.

Passion and love only exist if there is hope, and you seem to have none.

You seem to have no love of our history, or our traditions. And certainly none for our academy.

All you seem to want is to win so you have bragging rights.

Are you the cynical modern fan you keep complaining about?

16.) 06 Jun 2016 18:34:59
I just want to see good football. I don't buy into all this "love for the club" rubbish that people spout. It's a love for fame and money that overrides that now for most.

Man Utd is a part of me, it doesn't mean I have to agree with every decision the club makes or that what worked previously will work again.

Time moves on, I suggest you deal with it. Yes it frustrates me seeing the negative changes in football, it does make me question why I spent so much of my life dedicated to it, as a result not so much of my life is dedicated to it now - the game is corrupt. Maybe I'm just more aware now.

Hi guys, not posted in a while but been reading this site and probably every other Manchester United rumour out there since the first whispers of mourinho arriving at the club.
Looks like we're tying down our academy players who were great for us last season which is great to see and I think mourinho will prove everyone wrong about the whole youth thing.
I keep seeing everyone saying about who could leave and who's definitely staying and just want to give my opinion on it. From last seasons performances there are only a few players who earned their right to be at the club and a few of them are constantly getting called by other posters which baffles me a little bit. The players I think actually did a decent job last season were de gea, smalling, blind, shaw until his injury was on fire, when bastian played he gave the team a calmness and reassurance in the midfield, mata, Rooney, martial, lingard and rashford. These are the only players I can genuinely say stayed slightly consistent all season.
Now just because I didn't mention some players doesn't mean they don't deserve a chance. Some players just obviously didn't get on with van gaals tactics and I'm hoping to see a revival from Memphis, Morgan, Herrera, darmian and maybe Januzaj.
The players I would personally sell would be jones, rojo, Fellaini, young and possibly mata. The first 4 would be because I just don't see them being a big part in a top aide and they should go and get game time elsewhere. However mata is different, I do like him and believe he was one of our better players but when I have watched the team play he is just so slow and when played in his so called best position he plays no better than when he's stuck on the wing. When I was watching the Leicester game and he got bought on I was gutted because he just seemed to slow everything down so much. But with him if he stays I'll be happy as long as he isn't keeping better players out. If he goes I'll be happy as long as we get a better player to take his spot.
Lastly I'll just give my pitch on the transfers in to the club. Looks like we have zlatan and Bailly all but finished. Now I'm not going to claim that I've heard of Bailly but although what I've seen on clips and what people have said about him he seems like a decent player he also sounds like a red card waiting to happen. So we'll have to see how he gets on but hopefully when he's matured he'll be great cause in the clips I've seen him stopping Ronaldo, Suarez and messi like its nothing. Zlatan is a world class striker if there ever was one, he will be a massive impact signing and even if for only 1 year teams will be terrified of him. Good signing and with his age I think it will be good for martial and rashford because it will give them a year to further mature without being held back for years by a striker in their 20's. I think with those we should sign another centre back because I think there are a couple that should leave and smalling, blind and Bailly wouldn't leave me with too much confidence, I'd love manolas. Then I hope we sign a midfielder or 2, the obvious choice is pogba but not sure how likely that is. I'm not too convinced by Gomes but if he is signed I would be happy to give him a chance as I would anybody. The perfect 2 for me though would be pogba and vidal (most unlikely transfers ever but we can dream) . Other than that with the signing of zlatan I don't think we will get a winger because I think the wider areas of the front 3 with be occupied by martial, rashford, lingard and Memphis. If we do sign a wide man though I would personally like it to be greizmann, failing that I'd go for sane or draxler. I've seen links to Rafa silva but I'm not convinced by him either.
Sorry for the long post guys but I've read a lot and had a lot to say.

100% it will be 4 with an option for an extra year or 5 year contract. Hopefully if we do sign him, no matter what he will do right by us and make sure we get a good fee if he moves on.

Ronnie would you rather us have a 24 year old on the highest wage in the league? Bearing in mind his wage will probably go up 2 or 3 times before they retire. Their wages are so high because Rooney has been one of our best players for the past decade and I don't understand how everyone overlooks his contribution to us. Schweinsteiger is one of the best midfielders of the past decade, unfortunately he was injured a lot last season but he can still provide a lot when he's fit. And ibrahimovic even at the age of 34 is in the top 3 natural strikers in the world, they all deserve their wage on today's standards.

At United there could be 4 if given the chance; fosu mensah, pereira, Memphis and I believe roshaun Williams could come through. I think In general though it's really hard to say, stones could excel if he gets a big move. But I think gray for Leicester could be one to watch and also zaha.
