John

There was a report three days days ago that he was battling cancer and Alzheimer's and there was grave concern. I can only add to what you say and hope he pulls through. I am sure we all are by his side.

2.) 09 Nov 2015 21:14:49
What a player, bit at everyone's ankles and never gave up.
Hope he can pull through.

3.) 09 Nov 2015 21:19:03
Well said John, even though I'm a youngster and never saw him play live, I have grown up with the history and read so much about that era of our history.

Nobby is somewhat of an unsung hero of that time when it comes to history, people will always remember Best, Law and Charlton but Nobby is a cult hero amongst those players for Utd and the world up winning england team too.

Reading how clumsy he was and he funny mishaps always brings a smile to my face and I suggest if no one has ever read about him to go and have a read of Bobby Charltons autobiography, you quickly find out how loved he was and what a person he must of been to play with and have around.

Get well soon Nobby lad, wishes going out to you and your family for a speedy recovery.

4.) 09 Nov 2015 20:32:43
Before my time lads but I have seen some footage and the boy could play. Wish him well.

5.) 09 Nov 2015 23:28:25
He could kill. Hard add nails. If his legs were as big as his heart be would have been 7 foot tall. A true United legend and am iconic figure. Big specs and all. May God be with you Nobby.

darren fletcher having a medical at west ham, i wish you all the best darren you always gave 100% to utd .good luck and good health and thanks

1.) How Ironic it would be that his first game in a West Ham shirt will be against United

2.) He is not good enough anymore to play at the highest level but has been a great squad player for us over the years.

just a nice touch to tell you all about from utd, a work colleague of mine is spending his summer holidays in kenya helping the action not words charity.this gets youngsters away from living and scavenging on the rubbish tips and gets them a proper education.he asked utd and liverpool for help with old training kits or shirts for the youngsters to wear, I went and collected a box for him from utds foundation office this afternoon and there must be over 40 shirts and other bits of kit in there, a nice gesture and the lady I dealt with said she would love to see some pictures posted on the action not words facebook page with the kids wearing there new utd shirts.to be fair as well liverpool have also donated similar, unfortunately the poor kids will be wearing champions 2014 shirts :) only joking pool fans

johndenton

1.) Nice one, John. Priorities and all that.

2.) Cheers John, myself am Kenyan. Am sure the kids over here really appreciate your friend's good will. Utd is huge this side of the planet.

3.) There actually a northern ireland charity stevie

4.) I know, mate. The wee lad's primary school was helping raise funds for it last year.

Brilliant outfit doing some great work.

Makes a nice change hearing about this on here, in amongst the rest of the madness :)

just seen a very depressing stats table for the full premier league, it gives the points for 2012-2013 season and the points for 2013-2014.it then places the teams in order of difference in point swings, we finished bottom of the table with a swing of -25 the worst difference in the premier league.if that wasnt bad enough I now have to watch the bluenoses piling into manchester for the parade, wheres all that rain gone when its needed :)

Twas the night before Christmas, Old Trafford was bare.
The staff all gone home, there was nobody there.
The lights cast a shadow, a soft glimmer which
lit up the soft green grass on the pitch.

Just as the clock gave out its twelfth chime
An old man appeared, as if frozen in time.
He gazed at the tunnel, then broke out in voice
"ITS TIME TO BEGIN. let's HAVE YOU MY BOYS"

Out from the tunnel appeared a lone figure
Same as in life, only infinitely bigger
The old man called out as he slowly drew near
"good evening Duncan, are the rest of you here"

The figure broke out in wide open smile
"Good Evening Sir Matt, it has been a long while
The rest are all coming, they'll be here soon, "
As seven more shadows were cast by the moon.

Whelan and Bent, Pegg, Taylor and Byrne,
Jones, and Colman, they came out in turn.
He greeted each one, just by calling their name
then proudly announced "do you fancy a game"

They took to the pitch, and the still night was broken
By leather on leather, not one word was spoken
They played once again, like they did long before
And imagined the sound of the Old Trafford roar

Edwards called out "come on lads let's pretend
That we've just scored a goal at the old Stretford End"
As they ran to the edge of the pitch by the goal
There in the stands sat a solitary soul.

His eyes were all puffy, his cheeks wet with tears
As his mind wandered back to those wonderful years
"come down and join us" they cried all as one
"yes come down and join them" said Matt "go on son"

The lonely man stood and with much pain he said
"I'm afraid I can't play with you, you are all dead.
You are all ghosts, and I am alive
That was the price that I paid to survive"

My role was to go on, inspire the team
And finally realise Matt Busbys dream
To tell of your greatness, and as I get older
To burden the weight of your life on my shoulders."

The ghost of Sir Matt then raised up his head
Giving out a loud groan, he finally said
"Bobby, You survived, that much is true
But we wouldn't be here if it were not for you

For you are the one who has kept us alive
That was the reason you had to survive
If you were with us, all we have would be gone
And the game that we play could no longer go on

If you can't understand why it happened this way
Then come here and watch when United play
They sing about us, they remember us all
We live and we breathe with each kick of the ball

The legends that live here, Robson and Best,
Cantona, Law, Giggs, Scholes and the rest
They are us, we are them, we are all here as one
And that is the reason United goes on

So come down and join us, we're begging you do
You are still one of us, and we're still one of you"
And then Bobbys face rose and he gave them a smile
And he said "I would love to come play for a while"

They played and they played, as they did in the past
Only not quite as skilful, and not quite as fast
And when it was over, and when it was done
They'd defeated Benfica by four goals to one.

Then Sir Matt said "lads, its been fun you know
But It's now Christmas day, and we really must go"
They walked to the front of the stadium and turned
And Sir Bobby said "there is something I've learned"

"You did not die, on that February night
You're still here with us, as you're with me tonight
And you'll live on forever as long as we play"
As the ghosts disappeared down Sir Matt Busby way.

we have had a great window in respect of the 1st team squad and a massive shake up of the academy sides as well. we have sold players who wouldn't make the grade at utd and loaned out others for better experience. some of our younger players are potential big stars gomez in particular if he keeps progressing and others that we have brought in this summer like indy boonen etc. it means a lot of younger players will move up to u21 level which will be a big but usefull step up for them. what's gone under the radar for most is the backroom signings we have made recently, we just appointed atheltico madrids guzman as our spanish scout, and we've knicked kieran mckenna from spurs to replace paul maguiness. we've also appointed john peacock as academy consultant from the england youth setup who was the most successful youth coach england have had. and we've appointed ex arsenal employee sandro ordinelli as our brazilian scout. so all in all with players and support staff i think we've had a massive window with lots of positives for 1st team and the upgrade of our academy.
