Hello all, a massive thank you to the Eds as always, it's become a small obsession of mine (in a good way of course) .

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Jose was quoted the other day as saying that his list contains a surprise? Do any of the Eds have an inkling as to who that might be? Or was that just media spiel?

I must say, while I'm a firm believer on letting Jose identify the targets he needs, it seems as though City are stealing a march on us, especially as though it looks as though Fabinho (one I really wanted) is heading to city.

Looking forward to a (hopefully) busy and exciting summer!

All the best to everyone!

United in Red

{Ed004's Note - I've no clue. Hopefully Bale..}

1.) 29 May 2017 07:20:04
I think the "my list contains a surprise" quote was fake

If it wasn't I certainly wouldn't want bale a world class player no doubt but he's always injured so I'd leave bale exactly where he is.

2.) 29 May 2017 07:23:20
There's enough players to go around.

With Jose saying there's a surprise he must be very confident of signing whoever it is, or he's going to look a bit stupid.

3.) 29 May 2017 07:42:59
think its more Barcelona than City re Fabinho.

4.) 29 May 2017 10:14:09
I've heard that the surprise will be re-signing Cleverley. Best move we could make, for me. I think Jose has realised that allowing him and Pogba to leave were terrible decisions for the team, and having brought Pogba back, I think he has decided to do the same with Cleverley. He could be the difference between winning the league and not next season.

5.) 29 May 2017 10:29:10
Schneider. or Ronaldo.

6.) 29 May 2017 10:31:31
I think the surprise would be a player that is relatively unknown in this country, like Bailly was.

7.) 29 May 2017 12:25:40
I reckon the surprise is benzema. Madrid will get mbappe and I don't think there's huge love for benzema at Madrid.

8.) 29 May 2017 12:41:14
Suprise = Defoe.

9.) 29 May 2017 15:50:00
He got Eric Billy out of nowhere. There were no talks. No links. No Ed's were saying anything. And see. What a player. So even if he is unknown. It will be best for us. And system.

Hasn't anyone been tracking Pereira's loan at Granada? How's he been getting on?

United in Red

1.) 11 Nov 2016 10:34:55
Apparently performing well in a poor/ struggling side.

2.) 14 Nov 2016 02:22:54
Performing very well. he's the only good thing about Granada this season as there fighting relegation. Very promising for us tho, he's gaining a lot of experience as he starting every game 👌🏽.

3.) 14 Nov 2016 13:30:33
Rumours of him coming back in January.

4.) 14 Nov 2016 23:01:17
Mort, them rumours are the media adding 2+2 and getting 5 😭😂. Perierra had said that he has spoken to Mourinho a few times (Mourinho obviously just checking up on him) like a normal boss would. and the media think because Perierra has said that, Mourinho wants him back in January! Not happening! Next season Andreas will have his own shirt at United, not any time before!

I must say, I'm a little gutted at the AG news today; he was a player I felt could be a difference maker for us in the games we've been drawing and believe he's better than anyone else we have in that position currently. That's just my personal opinion.

We've been told repeatedly by the media that we're not afraid to spend big this summer (excess of £200m being quoted) so my question is this; with AG no longer being a priority (key word), would we still look to sign him this window should we deem it feasible and good business (i. e. let some players go as he is of higher quality than those we currently have in that position) and if not and he stays at AM for one more season, do the Eds expect us to be favourites for for his signature next summer?

Apologies, I know this Greizmann stuff is getting a little tiresome already, was just curious and hoping someone could clarify our stance on AG in the long term, and if he remains a priority target for that position moving forward.

Thanks in advance!

United in Red

{Ed004's Note - A lot can happen in a year so it's impossible to say if we will be still interested in Griezmann next season. It is a real shame as he was probably the player I wanted most this summer}

1.) 02 Jun 2017 06:29:40
We all know it can go either way but let our judgement cloud by reports which keep writing as if it was a done deal. I suggest we should just move forward and talk about the potential players but not set expectations lest we be constantly disappointed. Let the management do their job and trust Jose already knows who he wants and the options if it doesn't happen.
Just look forward to surprises and support fully when those who are signed come on board. Already feel so bored and can't wait for the next season to start. 😂😂.

2.) 02 Jun 2017 06:46:21
Same here Ed. I'm hoping we will get our business done early, buy the out and out striker Jose is looking for amongst other positions that need strengthening, then realise how much of an asset AG will be and just pay the €100m. I don't see that happening though. My biggest fear is if he goes to another PL team next season, we'd really regret it I feel. I agree 666, need to just have faith and look forward! Roll on August.

3.) 02 Jun 2017 16:04:22
Ed002 said many times that City were interested in AG and backed off and he said United will also back off once they know the reason. So AG is no more and we move on, Emile Heskey anyone?

Hello all! Daily reader, occasional poster here. I was just looking for your guys' thoughts on Periera. He's a player I really like and would love to see get a fair chance at some game time in a United shirt, but I just can't imagine where he'd play in our current line up. What do you guys think? I guess what I'm weary of is another Pogba situation happening. Personally I think he could turn out to be just as good, if not better than Pogba, and if we utilise him properly and are able to keep him at the club, then we'll save ourselves a cool £150m in the future! Sorry for the rambling, always interested to see what you guys have to say about these things. As always, many thanks to all the Eds for the hard work they put into this, its very much appreciated by everyone.

If you remember jose started him in a holding position against wigan and he also scored a goal. From what I've heard, read and seen, he's putting in very good performances for a terrible side in Granada. He has been very patient with United, and seems to want to make it here. Another season of no first team football, I think he will leave.

I think he needs to play 6 months in our squad next season, if he doesn't get matches, it's best if we sold him and put a cheap buyback clause in his contract. I think he's a star in the making, he is very good with the dead ball, and whenever you see him. play he tries to play quicker and pass the ball and without being the quickest, he still beats his man, and his dribbling seems tricky.

Hello to all posters, readers and Eds, and a very happy new year to you all! Really looking forward to the game today, I find myself counting down the hours to kick off with the anticipation of a child!

As an avid reader of the site and occasional poster (normally find that someone already posts what I wanted to ask), I wanted to get people's opinion on something.

With our current impressive run of form, and the copious amount of options we have in midfield, what are people's thoughts on the futures of Januzaj and Pereira? Do people think they have a future at the club, and if so, where do you see them slotting in?

Out of the two, Pereira is the one that excites me the most. I think if he can continue to develop his game in Spain, he could be that little something extra in the final third, not unlike Mkhitaryan. I'm aware that Spain is a completely different league, but the idea of an attack comprised of Herrera, Pogba, Pereira, Mkhitaryan, Martial and Ibra/ Rashford would be extremely exciting and dynamic.

Januzaj has all the promise to be a great player, but there's only so long we can say that for, and I struggle to see who he'd be pushing for a starting spot.

All opinions and comments welcome.

So I take it your Mrs is due to drop any time now?
Congratulations mate 😂.

What's everyone's thoughts on Depay? It seems as though he's been struggling with the pace of the league, and the responsibility of his defensive duties, and considering the form of Martial on the left, it's no surprise he's fallen down the pecking order. But I still believe he'll come good, given a bit of time and with some confidence installed in him, but what I wonder is, will he be given time? I'd like to see him here for at least another season, giving him plenty of game time to really see what he's about. There's been a few articles recently saying that we want to sell him in the summer but I think that could be a bad move, just look at what happened with Chelsea and De Bruyne. What's people's thoughts?

United in Red

1.) 24 Apr 2016 08:25:06
It'll be stupid to let him go now. Got to give him another season to adjust then they can make their minds up. He'll come good I'm sure.

2.) 24 Apr 2016 08:43:45
You rightly mention de bruyne but there are other examples such as theo walcott where the club has just kept the player in fear of him going somewhere else and doing well.

If we want to keep memphis it should be because we see he has the ability and temperament to make it in the premier league which he has but its all about consistency.

His major problem at the moment is the that martial is playing so well down that left hand side. So well in fact that i see him staying in that position for a couple of years at least. The way he can go past his full back on either side with such effortlessness as exemplified yesterday is amazing.

So that leaves him either content to sit as back up to martial or come in the team at a new position. Maybe as a right winger in competition with lingard?

3.) 24 Apr 2016 09:03:08
Spot on DSG. Depay's clearly got pace and ability, but the only way he's going to get confidence is by having a run in the first team, and are we really going to drop Martial to allow that to happen?

4.) 24 Apr 2016 09:08:25
It's a tough one. He hasn't done well at all this season, but it has been regularly stated that he wasn't ready for a move last summer. In addition, I think he is really struggling in the van Gaal system because of the emphasis on maintaining possession and defensive positioning. In all honesty I think if we had the young Ronaldo in the current set up he would have struggled to develop. Obviously Ronaldo was a much better player at this stage of his career, but I don't think we will ever see the best of Memphis under van Gaal.

It would seem silly to sell him after one season, but for me it comes down to who the manager is next season. If van Gaal stays there's no point in keeping him as a squad player, but if a new man comes in they might be able to get more from him. Similar to the Di Maria situation, under a different manager in a different system he could do much better.

5.) 24 Apr 2016 10:18:24
ED002 did say that Depay was a year away from being ready to leave PSV. Patience is required. Ideally he would have some like Giggs as the guy to look Upto. It's been along time since we've had too wingers to take the pressure off the new recruits and gradually ease them in.

Part of the problem could be down to LVGs style which can be styfling. Playing at a higher tempo and playing balls over defenders for Depay and Martial to run onto more often would be more beneficial.

6.) 24 Apr 2016 12:30:00
Eric Lamela took a couple years to settle but I think he's made good improvements this year. I wouldn't be happy to see us sell Depay already i'd like him to be given another year or so.

7.) 24 Apr 2016 12:53:59
Unless a continental club comes in with a big offer I'm sure he'll be given another year even though it's hard to see in which position his United future lies assuming Martial and Rashford continue to show improvement. If we're in Europe next year, we're going to need a decent size squad. Memphis could end up being very valuable in the Europa Cup, which is where it looks like we will end up, as well as in the domestic cups and as a rotational option with Martial. The club may also consider that Shaw's injury contributed to his difficult season both psychologically and tactically.

I thought his genuine joy as he walked out onto the field at the end of the game yesterday to congratulate the players spoke to his integration within the team.

8.) 24 Apr 2016 15:32:39
It's not a tough one at all. Young and needs time and guidance, not to mention confidence back.

He is a shadow of the player we signed but he does have a lot of class. Just needs time.

9.) 24 Apr 2016 16:16:16
Report in the papers we are looking to offload him. I did post a while ago that i had a conversation with one of the club ambassadors who said there are a number of senior players who think he is a waste of time and very big headed and don't rate him.

LVG is the only one protecting him because he wanted him, I reckon he will have a very short shelf life under Mourinho if he does not clean up his act. Fergie would have already sold him and not tolerate his on field/ off field contribution.

I am still wondering what people have seen in him to think he is special as I have seen nothing. Average pace, average foot balling brain, one dimensional and does not know how to go outside and poor passing and poor defending to go with it.

All in all a peach of a first year and being kept out of the starting line up by 2 academy kids.

As always, loving the site and a big thank you to the Ed's for all their hard work and insight.

I read the other day on that oh so reliable source Sky Sports that Samuel Martin of the Daily Mail (again, extremely reliable, I know) said that nobody can get anything out of anyone at Manchester United at the moment. Nobody is saying anything and you can't find an agent or anyone who knows what's going on. He went on to say how rare this is, not just for Manchester United, but for any football club.

The point he was making, or more his theory about why this is the case, was that maybe, just maybe, they're sitting on the best kept secret in football with regards to our (potential) new manager.

I mention this for a couple of reasons, number 1; do you think this is possible? And if so, who could it be? And number 2; if you guys could have any "left-field" appointment, or appoint someone that could do a good job but hasn't been frequently linked to the position, who would you have?

To give you my standpoint, I'm not sure it's possible to keep secrets in football anymore, which if you ask me, is a shame. The mystery has gone. So from that point of view, I think Mourinho will be our next manager, regardless of what happens. LVG might win the FA Cup and retire saying "I came here to win a trophy, I have done that. But I didn't make CL (assuming this happens) so I have not met my objectives and therefore I have to walk away" or something similar to the LVG branded BS we've come to get used to.

As for who I'd have in, I'd go for Pochettino if it's not Mourinho. If he's unattainable, I'd look at Koeman, Allegri (though probably also unattainable), Sparky. but the two I'd be really interested to see would be Tuchel or Schmidt from Leverkusen. Two relatively young managers who seem to doing well in their respective teams. If I was going left field, I'd seriously look at these two.

Sorry for the long post, and thanks again to all of you in advance!

United in Red

1.) 15 Apr 2016 19:29:49
What have Tuchel or Schmidt achieved in their careers to be even considered for the managerial role at United if i may. also what has loch or sparky done. loch one good season at Spurs?

We would be mad to change managers to bring in some unknown germans. Mourinho it has to be. The mans record speaks for itself and i would rather fail under him than some wild card manager.

2.) 15 Apr 2016 19:55:33
X Files, I completely agree with you and am fully behind the appointment of Mourinho. I'm not suggesting in the slightest that I want these guys to come in instead of him, I was merely looking to raise a discussion on the subject of, if not Mourinho, then who?

Mourinho was the obvious choice after SAF left, but it didn't happen and we got Moyes. The higher-ups failed us then, and although I'm begging it doesn't happen again, it could happen again so my question is merely if for some reason they don't see Mourinho as the right man, then who could be?

3.) 15 Apr 2016 21:54:11
Koeman Aad blanc would be my choices.

4.) 16 Apr 2016 07:50:53
The most telling thing for me is that no one has officially denied the Mourhino rumours.

Silence is sometimes the highest form of eloquence.

5.) 16 Apr 2016 14:27:27
A winner - Mourinho, Allegri or Klopp. Still disappointed we never got Ancelotti.

Yeah that's fair enough. I guess it's just a case of wait and see. All that matters is that we support the club no matter what they decide to do or who they decide to bring in when the day comes that we need a new manager. But for now, let's focus on climbing the table and winning some games in the Europa League.

I'd have a go and try to sign Payet. Okay he's a little old, but he's proven in the EPL, and he's shown he can handle both sides of the game. Then let him bring through someone like Perreira.

Thank you all for your kind words and warm welcome.

Red Man, I agree that I think LVG days are numbered, as long as results continue to go the way they have been. If results improve, then the club will see no need to sack him. I've never thought about the Chelsea game being a potential factor and, if the club are looking to change manager, maybe you're right in that they're waiting for that game to pass so they avoid any kind of unwanted soap opera.

Furthermore, I'd also like to say that I agree with Schmidfield, Pep could be a fantastic fit for our club, but I just get the feeling City have had him in the bag for a while now, like Red Man said.

Betty, I'm not so sure about Martinez. He seems like a lovely bloke but I'm not sure that's what we'd need. I've seen Schmidt mentioned a couple of times and he seems like he's doing a good job at Leverkusen.

Finally, I remember SAF saying on the BBC documentary about himself that when he was asked about Moyes and why they chose him, he said something along the lines off; "when I knew I was retiring and had announced to everyone I was leaving, we began our search. We asked Mourinho but he had already agreed to go back to Chelsea, Ancelotti was off to RM and we missed the boat on Pep. " Sir Alex knew these were the top three managers in world football (after him), surely the club can't afford to miss out on all of them twice?
