Let's sack Carrick, yay everything will be great. I agree that Carrick looks list and bereft of ideas, and a new experienced Manager will have an impact. But:
Solskjaer wanted Haaland, they got him Ighalo.
Solskjaer wanted Bellingham, they got him Van de Beek.
Ten Hag wanted Kane, they spent £72m on Højlund.
Ten Hag wanted Rice, they got him Eriksen.
Ten Hag wanted Joao Neves, they spent £50.8m on Ugarte, while PSG used the money from Neves' sale to get Joao Neves.
Amorim wanted Watkins, they spent £73.7m on Sesko.
This summer, we had Elliot Anderson as priority, we ended up spending £55m on Andrey Santos.
Emery has done an awesome job at Villa but would he succeed in our mad house? Would anyone? ?♂️.

Ole also told them to sign Haaland by all accounts.

One of the biggest issues at the club is that it presents itself as bigger than it actually is.
This summer they prioritised going after midfielders that we can't afford. Looking at Anderson, Tonali, and Fernandes knowing that they were out of our spending capacity. The knock on effect is that we are always scrambling down the list for cheaper alternatives.
The likes of Brighton, Villa, Bournemouth aren't scouting players in this price range because they know what they can and cannot afford. That's why they find "bargains". United need to accept that the spending and wage restrictions we operate under make signing top class players impossible. Instead, our focus should be on scouting and identifying the best possible players with potential to make the jump to that level. By doing that, we won't be scrambling down our wish lists, we'll have a chance of bringing in our number one targets.
However, this approach would necessitate the club being honest about where we are. We'd need to stop blagging about being ready to compete for titles, and admit that we're a club working towards regular champions league football. It's no surprise that the players performed better last season when the pressure was off. I think a lot of their frustration comes from going into the season with a mid level squad that's expected to compete with the likes of City and Arsenal, rather than Brighton and Bournemouth.
