Right now there are multiple free managers of suitable standard, plus Emery at Villa who may also be persuaded. Hurzeler or however it is spelled is also an interesting one to consider. So if United were decisive and changed manager there is good choice.
However, they will dither, give Carrick x more games and you expect the number of suitable managers will disappear or reduce dramatically. Then when they do want rid, the pool is small, so they look at an ex player to keep fans off their back.
Enter Ruud Van Nistelrooy, who wins a few games and fans get all giddy. Ruud must be in contention they say and in July is duly appointed for season 2027.8. Net spend in summer 27 is 65m, when two 29 year old Centre Backs are signed from Norwich. Ruud doesn't start 27.28 season all to well, but the club decide to give him time.
Then, you wonder why i want the club to be decisive right now.

Hurzeler is doing a fantastic job at Brighton. The club is superbly run. I can't see him leaving Brighton. They are already in a CL spot, having beat Arsenal comprehensively at the weekend. It could be a very special season for them.
However, i do believe that the club are unlikely to sack Carrick any time. If they had doubts he woukd have been gone after the Fulham game. The club will look at the City loss as a VAR error - a shockingly poor decision. Realistically, that isn't enough to just sack him yet.
Consequently United are stuck between a rock and a hard place. They won't want to look like they've made a knee jerk decision, but they must recognise and insist that Carrick and Co get the team to more adaptive and show some fight.
The next game, Rashford needs to be dropped, Cuhna back on the left, Lacey on the right with Mbeumo up top if Sesko is out injured. October will be the reckoning for Carrick.

Hurzeler wouldn't work, the infrastructure at the club isn't in place for him to be a success. We need someone who can make big unpopular decisions in the dressing room, for the manager to be able to do that we need a DoF that has the backing of the board and supports the manager 100%. We almost need to bring in a duo of DoF and Manager
As an example, Ralf Rangnick as DoF and one of his Protégés such as Nagelsmann (Only because he's available) Glasner would also be ideal but expensive. You then have a DoF and Manager that share a footballing philosophy and know how to build structure for success. A decent alternative to Rangnick would be Krösche, worked with Nagelsmann at RB Leipzig and apparently had a decent relationship, Eintracht Frankfurt have done very well under his tenure with recruitment. A Krösche/Nagelsmann due could build something long term as they are both very young considering their roles and achievements.
Monchi and Emery would be another example but again super expensive, Monchi only signed for Espanyol 6 months ago and Villa won't let Emery go without a fight.
The one issue anyone is going to have is the financial constraints, pulling something apart and rebuilding it is not going to be cheap and every year it gets harder as transfer prices rise.

I think it might be best to let Vivell have control instead of Wilcox. There appears to be conflicts between the both of them. RA had issues with Wilcox. I'd summise that with Wilcox, it is my way or the highway.
Wilcox comes across as a micro manager, therefore I'm my opinion, having worked under a previous micro manager, he is a hinderence.

Wilcox should go. We should start there. Sack carrick now and you will not get a good manager to come in. You cannot keep treating managers like a disposable single use item. What you can do it look at the success or otherwise of Wilcox decisions and ask whether the club need a fresh best in class point of view in that role.

Please listen. Conditioning is a bigger problem than Carrick.
They have all tools but no talent in the fitness department.
