The rumour mill for the next manager is in full swing. I think any manager would struggle at United now. Recruitment during the summer left Carrick very vulnerable. The options seem to be Eddie Howe, Fabian Hurzeler and Antonio Conte. Howe would be no better than Carrick.

Hurzeler has indeed got promise and ability but I feel is too inexperienced. Conte would be good short-term but would be away after a couple of years. I would tend to stick with Carrick and support him in January with a few quality signings, not stop-gap average players.

Why bother sacking Carrick? Those in charge of making the decision are clearly incompetent anyway.

If you say Howe is inexperienced what does that make Carrick, who only ever managed in Championship with one team oh you saying because he played for United that makes him better choice.

Conte or Howe have far more experience than Carrick and would both be better, but Conte by far stand out candidate for next couple of years, days are long gone of long term managers anyway.

I said that Hurzeler was inexperienced, not Howe. Howe is indeed experienced but experience is no guarantee of quality.

The club need to do something extreme. They need to overhaul everything, they need to start and FINISH a project. However, it takes strength and resolve to do this. Plus a bucket load of cash. We've talking probably in the region of £0.5bn+. I'm not sure the board have the guts or willingness to spend to bring success.

For me I'd go with Julian Nagelsmann as manager and Markus Krösche as DoF. You'd ideally appoint Krosche ASAP and get him to review and strategise and prep for Naglesmann to come in to put down somefoundations to build off but I don't know if there is time.

Whoever comes in is basically starting from scratch again. The squad is imbalanced, a hodgepodge of players suited to different systems, defenders aging out, defenders not bloodied in properly. Players that should have been replaced.

The mental strength of the dressing room is in question and the harmony and culture is in question. So whoever comes in is going to need some seasoned pro's they trust to lead the dressing room.

Turning this around was hard when Rangnick was here we're multiple years down the line making the same mistakes and in a worse position. Turning this around is going to be painful but not impossible, it just boils down to what the owners want - a successful football team or a profitable asset. All evidence points to the former so far.

They don't get much more experienced than LvG, or Mourinho. I was so excited by those appointments, especially the former.
We've gone for more hipster appointments who've been flash in the pans in their respective leagues like EtH and Amorim.
Now we've gone for no previous top flight experience.
At this point, it's safe to say we've tried literally everything, with only a few scraps of success and also-ran seasons, such as Mourinho and Erik achieved.

I'd also add that I can't recall many great matches where I've got off my seat in excitement, like the prime Fergie years. We just haven't been good to watch for so long. One of the few highlights were watching us beat City in Jan, or winning the FA Cup in 22.23 but precious little else.

I wonder if we removed Wilcox and others who made the job untenable whether Ruben would come back to finish what he started. That would be the smartest thing the club has done in 20yrs.
