I wanted to give a different prespective with some metrics.
-We scored 7 goals while our expected goals are 10.
-We conceded 8 goals, while our expected goals against are 6, 8.
-Our expected points are 8, 2. We colected only 5.
-We have the most shoots in the league, also we have the most touches in opposition and at the same time we are the team to receive the least touches in out area.
-Tielemans covers the most ground (or thereabout), Mainoo covers also a lot of ground and he is first in the league for pass accuracy and he is best by far at interceptions with 40.
Surely we are not playing very good and we are not perfect. Also we don't have a big database so to produce a safe Conclusion.
But, i think, we could be third or fourth if not some mistakes ot bad luck, or even bad reffering in the match with City. Although Tielamans with Mainoo are not a good fit together, stats (and i think our eyes) show that they give a good platform to the team to play on. I think midfield is our strongest are, even then it need more strenghtening. They run a lot, pass with accuracy, play line breaking passes and help the defence and attack.
Problem is the defence and a lot of personal mistakes and the attack, we make to many rush shoots-attemps and although we have most shoots in the league, they are low probability shoots.

As usual stats can be looked at anyway you like and made to sound anyway to suit the narrative like the ridiculous Tielemans one, covers the most ground . at snails pace maybe . plus the games we played apart from city just sat back and let us play round the middle of the park or across the back line.
The main stats to worry about are goals at both ends.
