Rumours Dortmund looking at ETh if he goes. Although i would hate to see that, i think he would do extremely well with them.

We can enjoy Potter with his impressive CV taking charge, another Rumour.

Maybe it's not all about a managers cv but whether a manager will fit the clubs philosophy, being able to work with the clubs new structure, if we get that right then maybe potter will be the best person to work under that structure, people forget how good he was at Brighton, I don't know the ins and outs but maybe he didn't have the best structure at the time he was at Chelsea.
I think it was ed001 who said he needs time to implement his ideas on his teams. ed001, If we get the right structure in place, do you think potter would be a good choice?

{Ed001's Note - with the right structure, yes. That is a big ask though considering the mess at the club at the moment. Having said that, it wasn't like he took over a professional outfit at Ostersunds. He built them into one, so perhaps taking over a mess and being allowed to work with new leadership to build the structure together is exactly what he needs?}

I still rate and would be happy with Potter tbh, wouldn’t let Chelsea cloud our thinking on him. I think it’s fairly likely ETH will be let go under a new regime and tbh I can’t really think of anyone else who United fans would be happy with, I think Potter ticks a lot of boxes.

The structure is the most important thing. CEO, DOF and manager working together with a clear philosophy and plan. Only worry I have is that the glazers will always have the final sign off so signing and selling players will still be difficult as we all know how they operate.

ED001,

If Utd were to sack EtH, who would be your pick for the UTd job?

{Ed001's Note - I have been trying to think, but there is no one that actually stands out as the choice. There are a few up and coming possibilities, Slot, Ilguacil and Michel stand out, Alonso would as well but he is highly unlikely to consider United. There are people like Potter and Amorin who need to sort out a career that was promising but has hit the buffers. Then there is Inzaghi, who is doing well in a difficult position already, so would be well versed in having to firefight until things get sorted. None of them really stand out.

United should be looking to get the best possible man, which is difficult as there isn't one there to get. Potter has built a club from nothing before, so maybe he is what you need to help if the new ownership does ever come in.

If Ineos don't come in, then any of those I listed would seem a good choice. All well versed in managing on a budget, with a club that often sells the best players out from under them. So it would be a big step up in being able to keep the players they want. But they all have been good at using the academy players to build around.

Personally I would like to see Ilguacil, just because the football he plays at Sociedad is so exciting to watch.}

Cheers ED001.

The INEOS takeover saga appears to be dragging on and on.

{Ed001's Note - interminably now.}

Scenes if it doesn’t happen. And if not what then? Doesn’t bear thinking about really!

{Ed002's Note - I explained two weeks ago there was only one matter to be resolved.}

Ed002 - is there any truth in the reports that there has now been talks between Ratcliffe/ INEOS and Potter?

{Ed002's Note - He turned down the Nice job but is one of the names on the shortlist.}

Thanks for all input and info Ed001 and Ed002.

Sorry to keep hassling for names of potential managers (think we’re all anticipating movement after we probably get thrashed on Sunday! )

{Ed002's Note - We are not going to get in to any of this.}

The best man to work under a proper structure whose available is the one we have, it’s laughable to suggest otherwise!

Chris he isn't the best man if his footballing philosophy doesn't fit with the DoF"s.

Problem with any manager that comes in is the pressure of being the United manager, it is relentless and the media will constantly look to tear you apart.

We are football basketcase at the moment, SJR coming in isn't about to wave his magical wand and make everything better.

Grim your right talksport still banging on about the Munich game tonight even after ole Ty of other European games and stories!
It’s literally relentless!
Potter couldn’t handle Chelsea he wouldn’t stand a chance at a huge club!
The outside noise is relentless and mostly nonsense!

I quite like the idea of Potter. if he got utd playing like Brighton. Organised, well structured and enjoyable to watch. do anything for that. Its horrible watching utd, even when they win the football is awful. Forgot the big club nonsense, as he's English he might get some space for longer. let's face it, the media have gunned for ten hag since day one as they didn't know him. Look at poch, was in the media with them and given an easy ride when Chelsea are much worse than us.

Surely we already have an excellent coach, he just needs help and support in terms of football structure,
Scouting, analysis and recruitment?

Exactly Eric people wanting potter over ETH have short memories!

19.) 15 Dec 2023

Chris I don't think anyone has said they want potter over eth, but if the new owners think he will work better under the new structure then as fans we have to accept they know better and support the team.

I honestly don't see any coaches available who I would definitely say are better than EtH.

He's managed a top side in Ajax, anyone who thinks differently clearly doesn't know football. Ajax are a massive side.

He's won league titles and cups. He's developed young players, and he's managed to get his sides to play very good football, outplaying sides that have much bigger budgets and on paper have a better squad.

I also think that when you consider everything he has had to cope with he's actually done a good job with us.

Who out there could/ would definitely do better? The only coach who I think has the potential is Xabi Alonso. Yet it's difficult to say whether he is just riding the crest of a wave of whether he is the real deal given his very short coaching career. I suspect he is the real deal, but he certainly isn't someone we could hang out hat on as definitely an upgrade on EtH. Plus with his Liverpool history would he join United, saying that Sir Matt Busby was a Manchester United legend as a manager despite playing for both Man City and Liverpool as a player. Maybe history repeats itself with Alonso?

Seriously though, if we sack EtH then who could we bring in who has proven capable of winning things, developing young players, playing a good style of play, has rebuilt/ built a club up to make them a top side, a d who hasn't been a failure elsewhere?

EtH ticks all those boxes, won things, played good football, developed young players into top class players, helps rebuild an Ajax side that hasn't won the league in years to being the dominant force again, and had never failed at a club.

I think people also aren't thinking straight. Even if the SJR deal was announced tomorrow, it would take a few months for him and his team to get their feet under the table to be in a position to decide who the next long term manager should be. I'd imagine any manager coming in to replace EtH this season would be a temporary manager until the new ownership can get all their ducks in order behind the scenes to be in position to make the correct hire as next manager.

Shappy

Whilst I am not suggesting a change, I just wanted to answer what you said in that, you can’t see any coach available who is better than ETH. A couple came to mind quite quickly Joachim Low and Hanse Flick, who I think are not working.

I'm more surprised there has been very little talk (at least I have seen) of the issue that could arise in the future should Nice and Utd qualify for the same european competition only one can play in it. Maybe looking for the loophole in this is causing some delay? At least there's no danger of Utd matching Nice any time soon.
