Hi ed002
A name I haven't seen mentioned on the site, Guido Rodriguez, is being linked with Manchester United, are they showing an interest?
Thanks for your time.

wiggy677

{Ed002's Note - Guido Rodriguez (DM/CM) The club have said that if someone comes up with his €75M release clause then he can be sold. There is no interest at that price, but Chelsea and Arsenal have watched the player but without further departures do not need another DM player - although Kante is aging. It seems unlikely the player would want the move after only being in Spain since January 2020, although Real Betis would be open to a sale. A reasonable fee might be €20M-€25M - but that may not be enough for them. If Liverpool are interested, it would not be as a Wijnaldum replacement but more likely a Fabinho replacement - makes no sense. Potentially on the list for West Ham as a Declan Rice replacement. A potential Matic replacement for Manchester United as they continue the amateur games. I am not aware of any approach by Everton.}

1.) 09 Aug 2022 10:33:26
Yep absolutely amateur, childish and arrogant, still not making grown up, well-informed football decisions.

The people running the club have no clue about recruitment and will continue to destroy the club until they are replaced by football people.

So disappointing that nothing has changed.

2.) 09 Aug 2022 11:25:17
Hi Ed002,

So sorry to bother you but, amidst the media excuses, briefings and general United incompetence, your info is really the only news we can absolutely trust.

(Still can’t believe United have pursue FDJ all this time despite being so obvious he didn’t want to come to United. So amateur - should’ve given up ages ago and got decent targets in begire they were all signed, such as Palhinha and Ruiz)

Thus, are you able to offer us any hope in these really dark days about potential realistic signings that United are actually trying to get? (Hopefully DM? )

Or are we going to be stuck with whinging weakling, mother-dominated Rabiot and awful knuckle-dragger Arnautovic?

Thanks for any response and will understand if your response is RTFP.

{Ed002's Note - As I have said before their are options but it is difficult to expect players to drop down a level in many cases. Rabiot wants to kickstart his career and the club seem to have switched attention to him from SMS.}

3.) 09 Aug 2022 18:36:33
Thanks for informed and polite response Ed002: you had every right to tell me to search past posts.

Thanks for your forebearsnce - always difficult to know what to believe at the moment!

Hi ed002
Are Manchester utd showing any interest in David Raum from Hoffenheim? Thanks for your time.

wiggy677

{Ed002's Note - David Raum (LWB) only joined last summer but has had an excellent season turning in numerous assists. Borussia Dortmund made an approach to discuss the player but were told very firmly that he will not be for sale this summer. Other clubs have been taking notice. He was offered and signed a contract extension in January.}

10 May 2022 05:54:30
Hi ed002, I'm seeing a few links with a name I'm not familiar with, Borna Sosa, is there any interest from Manchester United?
Thanks for your time.

wiggy677

{Ed002's Note - Borna Sosa (LWB) Stuttgart have admitted that there has been an approach from Inter Milan to ask about his availability and know that Chelsea could turn to him, but he is not their preferred solution. Barcelona have him on a length list of LWB options.}

1.) 10 May 2022 17:51:58
Ed, didn't want to make a new post, since it's more random names, but have you heard anything on Ignacio? Portuguese media seem to be pushing United's name forward.

{Ed002's Note - Goncalo Inacio (CB) Newcastle have utilised a very high-end scout - an ex-PL player to look at the Sporting player. Sporting will not sell unless there is a huge offer.}

2.) 10 May 2022 20:23:33
Is it true he has a 45 million euro release clause?

{Ed002's Note - Assuming you mean Sosa, the TMS shows it as rather more complex than a simple fee.}

3.) 11 May 2022 00:37:18
I think he was asking about Ignacio. Supposedly the report is Ignacio has a 45m release clause.

Ed002
Any interest from Manchester United in the Barcelona defender Araujo, I've seen us linked a few times with him now?
Thanks for your time.

wiggy677

{Ed002's Note - There was a discussion a while ago - but there are very interested sides and Barcelona are undecided about a couple of things.}

1.) 06 Feb 2022 06:37:08
ED002,

Would Utd be down the list of choices for the player, given that there are very interested sides in him.

Also, are Utd seem as an attractive club for players or they a club where you move for the money whislt possibly not furthering you career?

I hope that makes sense.

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Ronald Araujo (CB) Barcelona want to refresh their CBs in the summer and are looking for a long-term replacement for Pique and they know that Umtiti is not the solution they had hoped for - although he has taken a significant drop in wages to stay. This has them looking at Free Agents, with Andreas Christensen their preferred option but there remains a desire for a major buy at CB. They could use Ronald Araujo, who has yet to agree a new contract, as a part exchange option as they look for a solution to their various transfer needs and he is another of the players they could sell, having already spoken with Chelsea, knowing they have a potential CB problem with four Out of Contract in the summer, during discussions over several players. Manchester City offer an option and have spoken with Barcelona. I doubt he would be first choice for Chelsea or Manchester City. His agent has spoken with Manchester United who are expected to look to add a CB in the summer. Barcelona will push for a new contract but to date thatere has been no agreement.

The attraction of Manchester United as a club has drifted over recent years.}

2.) 06 Feb 2022 10:30:54
Thanks ED002.

Hope you have a good weekend.

05 Jul 2019 21:02:51
Hi ed002 hope you don't mind me asking but has the situation with Ddg changed since you last told us the club had messed him about with his contract?

wiggy677

{Ed002's Note - No, there is still no agreement on a new contract.}

1.) 05 Jul 2019 21:14:22
Thanks for the quick reply! 1 more question if that's OK, are there any clubs showing an interest in signing Ddg? Thanks for your time.

{Ed002's Note - If he becomes available there will be interest but timing is everything with PSG looking to someone else.}

2.) 05 Jul 2019 22:58:36
Donnnnnaninananrma from ac Milan?

{Ed002's Note - Right.}

If and when Evan ferguson becomes available for transfer, utd have to make it happen, what a player he is already!

wiggy677

1.) 02 Sep 2023 20:34:39
Fantastic player, he reminds abit of a young Rooney.

2.) 02 Sep 2023 20:45:09
If such a thing could happen, it would be like someone planted a seed from which a Manchester United player grew!
That's how I see this chap Evan Ferguson.

3.) 02 Sep 2023 21:15:13
Him and Hojlund could be absolutely lethal together and would sort our forwards for the next 10 years.

4.) 02 Sep 2023 21:24:12
I'll bang the drum again, Evan Ferguson. please, next year, do all that you can United. Taylor Made.

5.) 02 Sep 2023 21:44:55
He most certainly will become available and totally agree we should go for him when this happens. Looks an amazing prospect.
Perfect scenario would be takeover completed and funds available for investment next summer, he would certainly cost well over £100m but could be a 7/ 8 year player.
Him and Antonia Silva would be my ideal starts to a new era.

6.) 02 Sep 2023 22:10:34
He should be on the radar of aĺ the big teams not just in the EPL. I am glad for him he is at Brighton and under De Zerbi as well. Just listening to De Zerbi yesterday and of his responsibility as a coach to Fati impressed me, I can't speak highly enough of him and I hope he goes on to great things in the game.

As for Ferguson, it's his strength and power allied to the the quickness of his feet that impress me the most. He reminds me a lot of Gazza in the way he creates space and his quickness over to yards then has the strength to ensure you can't get back at him.

He is going to be a noghtmare for defenders with his back to goal because you are going to battle him physically but he has the speed of foot to turn you in close and with his size you are done. I am really excited to see his development under De Zerbi this year.

7.) 03 Sep 2023 08:49:28
When I suggested Ferguson last season I was told it was a good thing I wasn’t in charge of United transfers.

Ken lawman has made some interesting comments about Ferguson in another post, worth reading.

8.) 03 Sep 2023 09:39:19
Surely he is just a kid with potential. ?.

9.) 03 Sep 2023 09:43:10
He looks a major talent at 18 and gave them a very hard time and pretty damn intelligent footballer for an 18 year old.

I had a sense when Botman got injured nc will struggle. He has been a rock and excellent cb and goes about his business quietly. They are learning the harsh realities of pl and squad debt. Dan burn is a terrible CB and was a disaster lol.

10.) 03 Sep 2023 10:24:18
I hope the lad stays where he is for a couple of seasons, he’s at a good club with a good manager and the right place for him to develop.

11.) 03 Sep 2023 10:58:14
We're talking about not putting expectations on our own fledgling players yet he's younger than Garnacho and already looks like he could lead the line for any team in the Prem.
I've loved watching Brighton since the Potter days. But as de Zerbi said, for them it's not about hanging onto their players but replacing them which they do incredibly well. They've been smart enough to get him to sign another contract recently so I dread to think what they'll want next summer.

12.) 03 Sep 2023 12:34:52
Newcastle were poor defensively. Just like they were against Liverpool when Botman went off. How they never bought a top CB is beyond me.

Good player, especially for age, but still a couple years away from leading the line for a top club. He would be bullied playing for a top club.

13.) 03 Sep 2023 13:44:31
How opinions differ Sydney. So you think two years before he could start for Utd, Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal. I think he's better than anything those teams have. But maybe these aren't top clubs. :)

14.) 03 Sep 2023 16:21:07
He gets a free run at Brighton. If he played for a top team now, he would be targeted and likely man marked. Not saying he wouldn't cope, but I think he will grow immensely over the next two seasons. I think he will go to a bigger club next summer, then a season to bed in. So when he is 20/ 21, he will be a real handful.

15.) 03 Sep 2023 16:25:13
I think the one thing that kid isn't going to be is bullied. Rght now his strength is his biggest asset. The kids that make it young tend to have physical gifts that make up for their lack of experience.

13 Jan 2023 12:38:37
hey ed001,
I love reading your views on players and clubs. As the league is pretty much at the halfway mark i'd love to read your opinion on how ten hag has performed since he arrived.
I personally didn't think he would make as much progress as he has so quickly, I know there's a long way to go but it feels like he's the best thing to happen to the club since sir Alex left. Thanks for your time.

wiggy677

{Ed001's Note - I am so impressed at how far he has taken the club so quickly. I thought he would have needed time to get things back on track, but he did it so quickly it is incredible. He has shown he is more than just a hardheaded disciplinarian as well. I was discussing this with Ed77 just last night and we both feel he has put himself in the next group under the very top coaches like Guardiola and Klopp, with potential to move himself into the top bracket.

You can't praise him enough for how well he has done. There is not one aspect of the club under his control that has not looked to be improved. Players that looked nowhere near good enough for the long term, now look to be good enough. Though even he can't fix Maguire, which just shows he is human and not some kind of wizard.

If I was to give him a mark out of 10, it would be either 9 or 9.5 (if a half point is allowed). The only thing that marked it down is the insistence on certain players that adversely affected the summer transfer window. The de Jong and Antony transfers I mean. The focus on de Jong cost you the chance to fix the midfield and the overpayment on a player that is (at least at the moment) little more than a showpony cost you the chance to buy anyone else.

That is literally the only worry I would have about him. The insistence on only buying players who are either Dutch or have played in Holland. Though I do have a feeling that was just a short term going for what he knows plan until he could get settled in and the scouting dept was sorted out.}

1.) 13 Jan 2023 14:24:38
Ed001, I have a feeling you might be right in that EtH may have leaned more heavily in the summer on players who he knew until he could be sure the scouting department at United is up to his standards.

At Ajax the signings came from a wide variety of places, rather than just players EtH had managed previously or had watched closely.

I guess we'll see in the summer.

{Ed001's Note - at Ajax he had little to no control over recruitment, at United he has the main say, so only time will tell. This is something that we can only judge him on by observing how he acts as United boss. He doesn't seem that inflexible though, so you would have to think it is just a short term fix to get players he is sure of. I would expect him to then build around those with a more varied bunch of signings.}

2.) 13 Jan 2023 16:05:01
Let’s just hope he proves tomorrow he can go against and beat the very best in the business.

Finally feel like we are moving forward for the first time in a decade.

3.) 13 Jan 2023 16:14:04
Judging by what we read and heard the club was not in a good place before he came in and i'd imagine the recruitment team weren’t in the best place either. But the key was getting some players in who could make an impact now. That meant players he knew or had coached and understood his philosophy. Casemiro was the signing of the lot. His mentality, will to win, just everything about him oozes class. I think moving forward we will sign players who will suit exactly what the manager wants. I can’t wait to see where ten hag takes us.

4.) 13 Jan 2023 17:41:49
I think it’s only natural managers sign players they know and that they believe will fit what they are trying to build. Moyes signed Fellani, Van Gaal signed Depay, Blind, Romero, Mourinho signed Matić, Ibrahimovic. You need players who will back you when you’re not about and make other players believe in what you are doing.

I think we might still push for De Jong in the summer but the need is not as much now with Casemiro which just happened to be a gift from the gods ? expensive one but worth it.

What he, from what it appears, has created now with the team makes it easier in the summer for him to go after players he’s not worked with or has good knowledge of from leagues he’s worked in as they will be joining a group with the same philosophy and goals as ETH.

I understand all the posts tonight will be negative and rightly so, however I have a small positive as I'm desperate. well done hannibal mejbri, he showed more fight and spirit in 10 minutes than the whole squad have done all season, even after maguire gave him a hospital pass before their 4th goal he kept going and never gave in. Hopefully he will start Saturday.

25 Sep 2021 18:18:03
Just watching the Brentford, Liverpool game, very entertaining, Brentford not sitting back, having plenty of possession and playing lovely, attacking football as are Liverpool, I expect Liverpool to win but its great to see 2 teams going tooth and nail but with quality, both teams obviously very well drilled, we can dream.

wiggy677

1.) 25 Sep 2021 19:10:42
yep, sad isn't it? West Ham, Leicester, Wolves, Brighton, have all played some good football over the last few seaons. They haven't won anything but then neither have we, but they have been better to watch in large parts of the season.

I work with Wolves fan, Leicester fan and a W ham fan none of them would have Ole anywhere near them.

26 May 2021 23:44:09
Listening to Ole bumbling his way through that interview was making me cringe, 'we need to get better' and 'that's football' is all he ever says, now I'm listening to rashford talking it up, shame he didn't put that much effort on the pitch.

wiggy677

1.) 26 May 2021 23:51:14
Rashford always puts in effort. Plenty to criticise today, but let's not all lose our heads.

Someone below saying Rash wouldn't get in his Sunday league team. Don't be ridiculous. The kids knackered and been playing injured for months. Is he the best wide forward in the world, no, but he's still solid and has a place in this squad.

The manager is the biggest problem. Bring in someone who can train and improve players, give us an identity and style of play, and I think most of our first team would be sufficient.

2.) 27 May 2021 00:04:39
I’m sick and tired of hearing him try to deflect the blame by passing it off as “that’s just football. ” Just for once, I’d love it if he just came out and admitted that he got it wrong tonight when it came to game management. At least then there’d be a glimmer of hope that he understood his mistakes and might learn from them. It’s all well and good saying we need to be “better, ” but he clearly doesn’t know what that entails. The man has no plan B and no clue how to motivate his team or manage a game that’s not going to plan. Of course, I’d much prefer it if he just resigned. He’s taken us as far as he can and staying on longer just increases the chances of us slipping backward again.

3.) 27 May 2021 00:09:07
Some of the reaction on here is disgraceful. We lost, but we played well in the second half and should've won. Rashford was poor, Lindelof and Fred are probably not good enough at this level, De Gea has lost his zip. All true. Also Ole made some poor substitutions, especially Greenwood. But there has been progress. Look at Greenwood himself, Shaw, Wan Bissaka, Bruno, Cavani. All look like players belonging at the top level. Old deserves some credit for that too.

4.) 27 May 2021 00:36:52
How can you say we should have won when we only had 2 shots on target? I don’t remember their keeper making any amazing saves or any goal line clearances either. If anything, I thought they looked more likely to score a second than we did.

Perhaps Ole does deserves credit for Greenwood, but Cavani; A veteran striker who has scored hundreds of goals throughout his career and performed well at every club that he’s played for? I guess I’ll give you Shaw too. As for the others though, I actually think they’ve regressed since signing for United, although a big part of that may be down to how exhausted they all are due to Ole’s lack of rotation.

5.) 27 May 2021 00:40:41
He had taken us backwards. He took over a team that achieved 81 points the season before. Had been in 4 cup finals in the previous 3 seasons winning 3 many that's left have done well. Ole is not, never was and never will be a good manager imo. What credit does he deserve? Zip zilch zero. He never deserved the job and still doesn't.
Nice man trys his best was a good squad player here for many years scored a cl final winning goal but he is not at the required standard to be manager of Manchester United imo.

6.) 27 May 2021 00:52:09
donred a decent manager would of seen that and done something about it.

7.) 27 May 2021 00:53:02
DonRed, we've lost a European cup final. Playing well in the second half isn't good enough. People are fuming because we've been served up this crap all season. All the little "wins" like our away record, our comeback wins, some players playing well any other nonsense stat to make you feel warm and fuzzy means nothing.

The facts are at the end of his 3rd season in charge, the manager of Manchester United has not won a thing. Nothing but excuses made for the man and it's getting ridiculous at this stage.

He is a coward of a manager. Afraid to have any ambition because he doesn't want to fail. He thinks he can manage Man Utd for the foreseeable future by fooling people into thinking we're improving and it's worked on some.

Next season he will be sacked by Christmas. This charade has to end. I want to be able to dream again. As long as Ole is at the wheel we will win nothing of note.

You think the reaction is disgraceful? I think a Man Utd manager that concedes the title with 45 points left to play for disgraceful. I find the turgid football I watch week in week out to be disgraceful. I find the manager of Manchester United saying it's not about trophies, they're only for egos to be disgraceful. I find the manager of Man Utd settling for penalties in a final to be disgraceful. I could go on but I'm tired.

I'm gutted we didn't win. But this would have just been papering over the cracks. Next season he has nowhere to hide. He will have to show a pair and actually attempt to win the league next year. Full stadium with every eye watching him.

The reaction on here is perfectly reasonable.

8.) 27 May 2021 02:25:46
How we played good in the second half? They defended their lead and we had no idea how to break them down. I think we had 2 shoots on target and 3 corners for over 120 minutes. Imagine if we played bad!
Ole is a negative coach. He is the opposite of "United way" but he is a good seller so some people buy his story. He is a Championship level manager and yes i do believe this. I don't find difficult even me to choose my best eleven and play them. that's what Ole does and waits some moments of magic.
We all knew what Klopp trying to do from day one, Pep the same and even Tuchel (i don't rate that high) has a clear pattern. I would say Arsenal with Arteta ball too, although unsuccessfully. We are the only team with a nationals teams coach. Choose his best and tell them go and express yourselves. I really can do it myself, because that's the case.

9.) 27 May 2021 05:02:18
DonRed,

disgraceful as in getting knocked out of semi-finals and losing in finals?

As far as player improvements:

* I can agree on Shaw and Fred.

* Greenwood has always been doing what he is doing but his overall games has improved but is it down to Ole?

* Has Bissaka really improved - not really. He is a good 1v1 defender but has not improved going forward much and he gets caught out of position so many times as well.

* How did you even put Bruno and Cavani in there is beyond me? You are making it sound like Ole has discovered and nurtured them to be the players they are. In fact Ole is lucky and should be thankful for having them making an instant impact otherwise he would had been gone a long time ago.

Ole does deserve credit for steadying the ship but the job is beyond him and the club deserves better.

10.) 27 May 2021 06:51:44
Lets play i think Ole has steadied the ship so much that it is now anchored.

11.) 27 May 2021 07:24:00
United Addict I hope it's doesn't stay anchored for far too long.

12.) 27 May 2021 08:39:23
I've said all season OGS has gotten us as far as he can but himself and poor poor coaching stafff are incapable of guiding this bunch any further. Cavani- pure gutsy performance, mctom tried his hardest to drive on but noone else shone in a european final!
Granted villereal didn't lie down, why would they? But we weren't at the races. Not a kneejerk reaction but Ogs has got to step down and we must appoint a winner-.

Maybe it's not all about a managers cv but whether a manager will fit the clubs philosophy, being able to work with the clubs new structure, if we get that right then maybe potter will be the best person to work under that structure, people forget how good he was at Brighton, I don't know the ins and outs but maybe he didn't have the best structure at the time he was at Chelsea.
I think it was ed001 who said he needs time to implement his ideas on his teams. ed001, If we get the right structure in place, do you think potter would be a good choice?

wiggy677

{Ed001's Note - with the right structure, yes. That is a big ask though considering the mess at the club at the moment. Having said that, it wasn't like he took over a professional outfit at Ostersunds. He built them into one, so perhaps taking over a mess and being allowed to work with new leadership to build the structure together is exactly what he needs?}

I'm not surprised hojland isn't scoring goals, the service he's getting is appalling and on top of that he's still adjusting to a new league at 20 years old, how about we show some patience with him, I think he's shown enough to suggest when he gets service and experience he will thrive in the prem.

I have to say for the 1st time I'm starting to question some of his team selections. There was no need for amrabat to be left back, dalot could play there, lindelof right back, maguire and varane in the middle.
What mount has done to be starting games is beyond me, surely mejbri has to keep his place, amrabat, casemiro and mejbri should have started imo.
Pellistri has done ok but my front 3 would have been rashford, hojland and fernandez.
The decision that baffled me most was definitely leaving mejbri out, no energy in midfield again especially 1st half. Like another poster pointed out, we're so predictable in attack, I don't like to question the manager to much as he knows the players, but doubts are starting to arise.

It's always great to win trophies but considering we won it last season and the injury situation, I agree we need to rest key players, the problem is we hardly have any defenders available to rotate so do we throw in a couple of kids who have never played 1st team football, why not, but again I'm wondering who could step up, the only 2 that stand out are kambwala and Bennett from the little I've seen and both are centre backs, we really need full backs, it's all hindsight but it's a shame alvaro fernandez is on loan.

wiggy677
