Looking like Sesko not coming now price gone to 80 + million. We should concentrate on CDM and a keeper now, move on.

The price has barely changed. It's just gone from €75m + €5m add ons to €80m + add ons.
If we weren't out before I don't see why we would be now.

Guess it depends on the structure of the deal and who can offer Leipzig more cash up front. In that scenario yeah we're probably scuppered lol.

I think he will end up at Newcastle anyway.
If he was English and played in the Premier League last year, half the fans here wouldn't be interested. 13 Goals in 33 Matches doesn't justify a €80m+ price tag.

They want him but they want him to choose us before we bid officially.

I'm a huge fan of Sesko, have been for a few years now.
However, I think we'll have a similar problem with him as we do with Hojlund, ie paying a huge fee for potential, not current ability.
I have no doubt he's going to be a top striker, but he isn't ready to walk into our team as undisputed first choice and bang in 20+ goals.
If we aren't getting that, I don't think we should be shipping out a young striker with high potential at a heavy loss just to bring another young striker for a massive fee and have the same problem all over again.
I'd rather see us stuck with Hojlund and Zirkzee. I'm a big fan of Hojlund too, and I'm pretty confident he is going to be a top striker too (albeit slightly less confident than I am of Sesko), but I'm actually more excited to see how Zirkzee can combine with Cunha and Mbuemo. I think that trio could be deadly this season, and I can see them really complementing each other.

Agreed Thorne. Stick not twist.

The thought of another Rasmus/ Zirkzee campaign sends shivers down my spine, but it does feel like our options are getting thin in terms of bringing in a transformative player. If we are stuck with what we have we can only hope the dynamic changes with the new signings we have. At least it feels like we'll be creating more for a no.9 to be feeding off.

Rooney only scored 15 in 67 for Everton. Why on this earth did we buy him?

Rooney was 18, not 22.

The United bid has gone in so he must have given an indication. If we get him in he will get far better service than Hujlund and Zirkzee received last season.

Is there room for improvement Ken?

I do not think the coaching team are sold on Hojlund otherwise they would be sticking with him. We see in matches that it has not worked, some time based on him others based on no service. What the coaching team will see is what goes on in training so if they are getting rid then as a whole he is not for them.
If we end up going with Sesko I don't think they are expecting 20 goals in year 1 but more a player that suits what we need and will get 15 goals. along with Cunha/ Mbeumo our goals scored will have increased collectively.
This historically is how we have had success, not regularly having a 20+goal scorer as nice as it will be if we find one.

i think we will retain Hoiland even if Sesko comes in. Zirksee is not really an out and out striker. Sesko has bags of talent and plays in a tougher league imo.

The coaching team have been working with Rasmus 1 2 1 since turn of the year and RA ordered, he just not taking it in, they can teach everything but if you got a delayed brain with no strikers instinct that can’t be teached, he got a split second delay and in the epl it means the defender is there first.
Rasmus got to go, Zirkee is no striker either, great touch but no movement and not a great finisher and again no pace…. both need to go really, but no one really wants them I wonder why!

I think there is plenty of clubs interested in rasmus German. not at the price we overpaid but at around half the price.
So not a huge loss on the books.
@ patrick. Tonnes of room for improvement obviously but I'm not sure he has the capability to improve enough. More importantly that's the managers view.
If we can afford to loan him for a season I think that would be ideal.

I seem to remember reading that Sesko has an agreement with Leipzig that would allow him to move for a little less if an elite club puts in a bid for him, so I suspect we may be banking on that with our slightly lower offer. Ultimately, if Sesko tells Leipzig that he only wants to move to us, the fact that Newcastle have offered €5m is kind of irrelevant.
