Carrick given the chance to turn the situation around!

Well that won't happen. Maybe after another hammering vs Chelsea at the weekend they will think again.

Rightly or wrongly the players have lost faith in Carrick. That won't change in the next few days.

Embarrassing to say the least.

Agree7 Disagree0

I'd say a large reason is they have nobody ready to step in and they know another interim will get them slaughtered by the fans.

Completely clueless!

This is the worst of all possible decisions.

They haven't backed Carrick.
They haven't replaced him.

All they have done is kicked the can down the road for another week.

Given that the squad has already publicly undermined Carrick, and know that the club would like to replace him, he has zero authority. It's a classless and cruel way to treat any manager. We've seen enough over the past decade to know when the players have given up on a manager. They won't get Carrick a result against Chelsea, and eventually the club will have to act.

If reports are to be believed, this is about not wanting to spend the money needed to sack Carrick and his coaching team. This is where we're at as a club. Record revenues, and we're still too poor to bring in a new manager. The worst run club in the league. But if Rattcliffe is so worried about wasting money, maybe he should look at his brain trust that have made 3 consecutive blunders with managerial appointments.

{Ed025's Note - spot on Danny..

An absolutely mental decision to leave him in there. All the top decision makers, including some of the Glazers and that's the best they can come up with?

No matter what way you cut it up, the club is in a really bad place. Them leaving Carrick in charge could mirror Spurs leaving Frank in charge at Spurs last year. You leave it too long and we're in a relegation fight, something none of these players are up for.

Going back to when Ashworth was at the club, one of the managers he pushed for was Eddie Howe. Now it seems Wilcox is leading the chant for Howe two failed managers later.

Vivelli who's contract is up at the end of the season wants Nagglesmann. Again a decision to appoint a manager who is only wanted by a fella who will be gone soon.

You have the drips of news this morning about how the Glazers are waiting for the stadium to built before considering selling, and they think if City are relegated, we'll somehow be more attractive to a buyer.

Everyone at the club has sleepwalked into this position. The Glazers have cannibalised the club while the fans have done nothing. I saw the 1958s open letter which i found cringe, pathetic and hilarious in equal parts. Like David Brent tried to write a threatening letter. The 1958 describe themselves as An underground group of reds intent on upholding the values of Manchester United, its culture and traditions.

Someone tell these lads that they don't need ti be "Underground". Its embarrassing being a United fan but its certainly not illegal.

I have said it for years, the season ticket holders are the only ones that have the power to oust this ownership. It will take more than leaving 5 minutes before the end and some booing. They have let the club down immensely letting this get this far. But with the 1958, MUST and any other supporters ground, I have zero faith. Frogs in boiling water comes to mind with the home fans.

Probably written the same post multiple times over the years, but the realisation has set in now, we'll never win a league under this regime.

The fans have a chance to change the clubs trajectory. The have to stand up.

Couldn't agree more Danny there is a big question about what the outcome against Chelsea going to be?

Lose, and I expect it to be ugly. If we get turned over, the club will have thrown a United legend and a genuinely good man to the slaughter, leaving him to take the blame while being backed by a bunch of gutless players who seemingly have no accountability.

Win, and what does that tell us? That these players can raise their game when they feel like it. Because let's be honest, the performances against Como and Bournemouth will not be anywhere near good enough to beat Chelsea.

That's the problem at Manchester United. The effort, intensity and desire seem to come and go depending on the circumstances. New manager bounce, players getting a sulk on, a bit of pressure building, suddenly they can run, compete and look interested again.

And where does that leave Carrick? Thrown into a situation he shouldn't have to deal with, with absolutely no clarity from the club about his future and players who need to take a long, hard look at themselves.

If Carrick isn't the man, come out and say it. If he is, back him properly. Don't leave him hanging while the same players continue to dictate the narrative with their performances.
Because whether we win or lose against Chelsea, the bigger question remains the same:

Are we watching a team fighting for Manchester United, or a group of players who decide for themselves when Manchester United is worth fighting for?

That's what I want answering. Not another round of excuses.

{Ed025's Note - great post Ports..

They would love him to walk, but why would he!
No one wants to take on next 3 games
In the end they will have to pay him off like ETH & RA
So more time wasted
But if you was an incoming would you not rather delay a couple of weeks
Just hope SJR takes the time to replace Wilcox too but also Wilcox does like Southgate so who knows.

27 Oct 2026 19:07:27
This really explains why SJR has failed at almost every sporting venture he has invested in.

I honestly never thought that anyone could actually make the Glazers looks competent, so we'll done SJR!

I'm sure he would love Southgate to be in charge, another Yes man, who would be their puppet!

I suppose it makes good viewing for the uxpomg Amazon documentry.

If I were Carrick I'd go full Mourinho/Conte and dig the club out in the press in a way they can't get him for misconduct. Wilcox would be kicked firmly under the bus, the board would have a nice shiny mirror held up to them to force their hand and pay me out.

As Danny has said the players have called Carrick and his team out in he press, it's an untenable situation.

This has the potential to get extremely ugly, the dressing room is quite obviously a mess, for this to be spilling into the press so readily and frequently shows how bad that dressing room is. The fact they have turned on Carrick so quickly after all the post 3rd place positivity shows there are a number of bad apples in that dressing room.

We find ourselves in a situation of terrible ownership, poor leadership and at best unmotivated/unhappy playing staff. Add in a shed load of debt and it's not pretty.
