Question for Ed001, what do you think of Martial this season Ed? His hold up and link up play seem to have got better, along with his touch. Looks as if he's working on his weaknesses which is a huge bonus. Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - major improvement, but it helped that he has been able to play consistently up top where he is at his best. He has developed an understanding of his role and his team mates which helps the hold up and link up.}

Ed001
I think his biggest weakness is when he fails to make a run in the box. He has show some good finishing from headers when he does. Everything poi ts to Ole and the coaches trying to work on that with him. But he still has moments where he is too passive or just hangs back when it is obvious the team need him to make a front or back post movement.

Do you think a player can learn to make those runs, or is just programmed that way and it won't develop?

Just to be clear, I rate the guy. His application has been better without the ball. But I still feel he offers little to his wingers. To me he plays like a second striker.

{Ed001's Note - they can learn to make the runs, anything can be learnt with the right mentality. The thing is that it is up to the player to get it, to want to learn, in order for the coaches to be able to teach him.}

For every game martial doesn't make enough runs there are plenty of games where him and rashford this season have made runs and the midfielders have not even attempted to find them.

If you want a perfect example, rewatch the arsenal game from january (most people have enough time on their hands to rewatch it for the whole 90 mins at the moment lol) . Martial and rashford made plenty of runs and the midfielders (fred and matic) played it back and sideways every time.
