I think he will stick with Maguire and Varane as the centre backs.

EtH signed Martinez as a CDM for Ajax, coached him for a while and decided he would be better at CB.

So moved him there and almost exclusively played him in that role since.

EtH likes his CB's to play high and wide. In that respect they need to be comfortable in possession and capable of moving out wide to cover the full back.

Martinez fits that role perfectly, as a former midfielder he is comfortable higher up the pitch and in possession. While being left footed he is also comfortable moving out to the left flank to defend if needed.

We have few other if any options who are comfortable playing as high and wide on from the LCB position as Martinez is.

I'd be stunned if he plays anywhere but CB.

Ed02 I believe said we wanted him at CB.

Every scouting site and pundit I have seen says he is a CB.

I don't know why there is any thought we are getting him as a DM.

Look up 'martinez Vs Chelsea' on YouTube. He was played as the holding midfield player in the champions League and absolutely ran the show. Perhaps explains why some people can imagine him as DM for us.
