Since it is rant season, let me blow off some steam here as well.
I will start with a maguire fact; in a week he has:
1. Tackled his own player (AWB)
2. Injured His own player (Eric)
3. Tried to dribble his own player (Matic)
4. Scored against his own team.
5. Defended atrociously
6. Failed to score from free headers.

When our captain is having such a week, coupled DdG's errors ( Whose performances are Slowly going from van der sar to van der gouw) what can we expect.
For maguire's 80mil not to be a waste, we need a much better co-center back who will compliment maguire. Frankly the Iceman has melted this summer.
I don't think we are ready to play out from the back against some teams. This is partly the reason why pogba tries to turn 2 or 3 markers, so he can create he space and compensate for the lack of movement and options.
Hopefully this will be addressed before we start next season.
Top four and Europa final are still very realistic expectations.

mbd a 80mn signing should not require a better cb next to him to make himself look decent. Even if we replace lindelof with someone quicker, that player is just going to look as bad as lindelof does at times, maguire seems to have an inflated opinion of his skills and pace or he is just plain stupid and doesn't know how slow he is.

Only good thing that came out of this game is we got a reality check that has been due, we were poor against villa until the pen, we were poor vs southampton for large parts of the game, not great vs palace either. Having said that, i feel we will smash moyesiah's team and all will be well.

You're either good enough or not. Maguire is making his own mistakes not being let down because lindelof is beside him.

I still don't understand what he was doing in the collision with Bailly. He ran across from the middle to make a challenge on the touchline, that Bailly was already dealing with. Strange one.

If you look at the replay Stevie. He never opened his mouth either to claim or call for it. When he was coming for that ball he bailly should have known so he could take evasive action.

You’d think Maguire got us relegated from the comments on here. The guy had a shocker of a game, that’s it. He’s vastly improved our defence since arriving and is in the top 5 CBs in the league. I’ve said it before, but he didn’t slap an £80m price tag on himself - to have a go at players for how much they cost is so childish and frankly illogical. Ole got the team/ tactics wrong in a cup we would happily sacrifice for CL next season. Let’s not get all reactionary on our first loss in 19 games!

In the month since the restart he's played 840 minutes of football, or in other words every single minute we've played. It took him 77 days (! ) to rack up that many minutes at the start of the season. He played with painkilling injections at the beginning of 2020. He's had the doctors on the pitch twice following head injuries.

He's never going to live up to that price tag but to criticise him so harshly at the moment is quite frankly ridiculous.

VVD has to play with Lovren if their 2 other good centre halves are injured and they look half the team when he does. I know the done thing is to slate Maguire at the moment but to suggest he shouldn’t have a partner that suits him is just daft imo.

You are clueless gds, maguire is dreadful. 80m for such a poor defender is ridiculous, we need 2 cbs and hope we stay off grealish. But i don't trust this club to buy the right players, always paying premium for average players.

Who's suggesting that he shouldn't have a partner GDS?

Liverpool might look half the team when lovren is in there but VVD doesn't look half the player.

You're either a quality centre half or your not. Maguire might be better than what we have but he surely isn't in that top bracket and the argument that he only needs a good partner to be good after we spent 85m on him is what is daft.
