Hi Ed. Might Buendia be a cost-effective AM/ RW option for Utd? He's very young and I can't see Norwich being able to hang onto him. Plus I suspect he'd cost a fraction of the main target.

{Ed002's Note - To replace the purchase of Sancho? He has not been looked at whereas others have.}

I don’t see the fascination with Buendia? I watched him a few times after lockdown and he didn’t work back, got a stupid red and tried to do everything himself at times?

Anyone wanting wanting players like buendia clearly want to step back not step forward.

Out of that Norwich team the only players I’d consider adding to the squad would be Aarons, Lewis and cantwell.

Buendia is 24 in a few months he's not that young. Plus a lot of Norwich games I noticed he starts on the bench. Nowhere near good enough for us in my opinion.

Buendia is criminally underrated by so many, mostly likely because he plays for Norwich.

He ranks 4th in the EPL for Key Passes, with only KdB, Maddison and Grealish above him.

He ranks 4th in the EPL for expected assists (xA), with only KdB, TAA and Mahrez ranked above him.

Ranks 4th for successful dribbles in the EPL, with only Traore, Saint-Maxmin and Zaha ahead of him.

In Europe's top five leagues only Messi has played more through balls and created more "big chances".

And ranks 3rd in the league for passes into the opposition penalty area.

Yet he isn't just about creativity, he works hard for the team and does loads of defensive work.

He averages 13.6km distance covered per game, for context the league average is 11.4km. Anything over 12.5 places you in the top 10. Buendia is second in the league.

He ranks 5th for presses per game in the EPL, and is first amongst players 23 or under.

Is 4th in the league for counterpresses.

Makes more tackles in the defensive third of the pitch than any other forward in the league.

While, he is third for Norwich for appearances this season and 7th for minutes played. So is very much a regular starter.

Emi Buendia is one of the most complete and creative forwards in the EPL this season. He is EPL proven, which is far more than most other targets for the RW and would be significantly cheaper than most. Especially when we consider that he has managed this while playing for the worst team in the league. He was responsible for 21.3% of Norwich's league goals this season.

The only thing that really let's him down is he doesn't shoot enough, yet in a United side that would potentially contain Rashford, Martial, Greenwood and Bruno we don't really need a goalscorer, but a goal creator. And Buendia is one of the best in the league.

Buendia combines the work rate and defensive nous of Park Ji Sung, but with elite levels of creativity.

Sadly the team pressing hardest for his signature appears to be Leeds United and he would absolutely thrive under Marcelo Bielsa and his style of play. If Leeds sign him I can see them having a similar season to Sheffield United, maybe even going one better and getting into Europe in their first season back in the top flight.

Are Barcelona or Madrid in for him?

Jred.

Barca just got rid of Arthur to sign an aging pjanjc. Their recruitment is a shambles in itself.

I think not, its also a really strange way to judge if we should buy a player.

Stats can be deceptive at times, but that list does make a compelling case.

I haven't watched Norwich that much, so could be wrong, but he looked like he'd be comfortable at CAM as well as either wing, so maybe an alternative to Grealish rather than Sancho perhaps?

Thorne, Buendía is definitely better coming off the right, but can equally play in the No.10 role. Not sure he has played much from the left. But then with Rashford, James, Martial and even Greenwood more than comfortable playing on the left I'm not sure we need any more cover for that side.
