In some devastating news it seems Maguire is close to a return.

Why is that devastating?

Maguire will be backup and we need experience on the bench. But I'd be highly surprised if he displaces Heaven.

Coz he is pants!

Really don't understand the issue with Maguire. He always gives his all, has scored some great late goals, and brings valuable experience to the younger defenders. I don't want him starting, but I have no problem with him being fit and available.

At this point, it is purely forced hate.

Never been his biggest fan, but if Maguire was fit for the last 6 games we would certainly have more points, think we win both the west ham and bournemouth games we drew at home at the least.

Ironically the way the premier league has been this year suits Maguire the most since he joined, he is an absolute unit and quality in the air.

He’s been good in a back 3, it suits his attributes. I’ve been critic over the years but fair play he is a top pro, kept his head down and has shown up when needed over the last 2 years.

Yep, he's been solid this year. Limited but has shown his value this year.

I am one of his biggest critics, but will be the first to say we could have done with him these last few weeks with MdL out.

That said, we have to keep moving forward as a group. We have a number of players coming through in CB, us we have the likes of Licha and Shaw stepping up or back from injury. For me, if MdL is fit, he nudges Maguire to the bench.

He is coming to the end of his contract, and I think we let him go. Simply because what we have is going to need adding to.

Licha, MDL, Heaven, Yoro, Shaw, Fredrickson, Mazraoui, Maguire

He is 32.

Even if he was on reduced wages (sub 100k/w), I still don't think I'd keep him as he would take a spot away from either a new signing or a youth player coming through.

His experience would be valuable, but we have sufficient experience in that area from MDL and Shaw and Licha.

I would keep him. Seems to be a good professional. Worked hard to get his place back. You cannot buy experience and should be a good influence on younger players plus he is a valuable asset at set pieces.
