Garnacho did everything needed and more to make that left wing position his for the next game.

Likewise Pellestri on the right. Martial had one of his better games but injury worries and long-term inconsistency go against him.

But the headline is Rashford has to be dropped. Come on ETH. This is a test of your integrity here. There is no logical reason for Rashford to be brought back. Don’t care how he trains this week, his status (whatever that is) or what his salary is. Bigger picture rules and Garnacho deserves. Anything otherwise is a slap in the face.

As for Amrabat. An easy baptism but what a breath of fresh air. There’s no way McT would ever play that role. Hannibal is bringing much needed energy and is now a rotation starter and first change sub. He’s head and shoulders above McT too.

A much needed night of positivity. The Carabao Cup is our saviour again.

I think Garnacho had his best game in terms of link up play and getting wiser and understanding he needs to recirculate the ball if there is nothing there when he receives the ball, which he did not do well in previous games he started. I don't see rash being dropped though but he has needs to recirculate ball faster when there is nothing there.

How good was an unfit Ambrabat and cas with some help oozes class. Mount was really good too and Varrane at the back just calms everything down for us. Ambrabat is still a step or two slower than when match fit so imagine how good this guy can be.

Martial is looks lean and fit and hopefully can start firing as he has the talent to score a lot of goals. I can see him getting some starts ahead of Hoiland and the manger clearly likes him and always talks about his importance to the teams performance.

Maguire was very solid too and just a very good team performance.

First time seeing Gore play and I was impressed, he will make it imo and he is a couple of seasons away from being there but really nice player and excited for him and his future. Pellistri and Gore need some filling in and physically and get stronger but both have a great future ahead of them if they work hard at it.

I think Bruno can join Rashford on the bench along Ericsson for the next game. Those 3 have been very poor this season. A similar team that played last night should play again on Saturday.

Would people play Reguilon or Amrabat lb next game and keep the same midfield that played last night?

I certainly would, given how fluid the team played last night. It was our best game so far this season.

3.) 27 Sep 2023
27 Sep 2023 10:57:14
I would put my life on it that Bruno and Rashford will be starting the next game

I would drop Rashford, I’ve been his biggest critic I just don’t rate him and think he is probably the most overrated player to play for us.

4.) 27 Sep 2023
27 Sep 2023 11:00:29
Didn't Reguilon get an injury? Hammy or groin? So unsure if he's available hence Amrabat at LB last night.

5.) 27 Sep 2023
27 Sep 2023 11:28:47
We're firing on all fronts, no I can't see any way that the squad isn't utilised and Rash/ Bruno are left out again. Maybe Eriksen as with Amarabat and now Hannibal forcing his way into the fold there are options.
Maybe we'll see more of a cup team that looks like last night and rests certain players, with 60 odd games makes sense but once we get a tougher tie I'm sure it'll revert.

6.) 27 Sep 2023
27 Sep 2023 10:34:00
Amrabat played LB into midfield, bolstering midfield numbers. Same role as Zinchenko plays. What Arteta was doing with Partey at RB. Like Trent at Liverpool etc. It works when implemented and executed well. It's easy for player who can also play as a defensive midfielder.

7.) 27 Sep 2023
27 Sep 2023 11:40:29
Mind you garnacho had a makeshift LB behind him. Makes his performances a lot more better.
If this was regulion, or any decent LB who overlapped this would have been better.

I am of the opinion our second team plays a lot closer how the manager wants to play than our first team.

8.) 27 Sep 2023
27 Sep 2023 12:41:49
Bruno and Rashford will be back in the team on Saturday, no doubt about that.
They seem to be ETH'S favourite / go to players.
I must say not only was Amrabat brilliant last night but because of his work rate it gave Casemiro more of a free role to express himself with some lovely passes and forward runs. Casemiro looked a different player last night.

9.) 27 Sep 2023
27 Sep 2023 13:18:10
Garnacho is a great talent absolutely no doubt, and I want to see him get more game time this season.

Yet he is still very young and will be inconsistent this season. He was great last night, but in truth has been fairly poor in his game time previously this season. With the occasional bright moment rather than good form.

I think his game time still needs managing and he needs to used more often than not as an impact sub (which he has shown he can do very well) .

Rashford has shown that he can be relied upon more often than not, and he needs to regain his best form. As on form he is probably our most dangerous attacking threat. However, to be fair the form of attacking players tends to be impacted most by poor team performances as they are relying on everyone behind them to do their job well to feed them the chances they need to score and create goals.

10.) 27 Sep 2023
27 Sep 2023 13:39:05
Amrabat moved into midfield at HT when Lindelof was brought on, who did really well btw.

Interesting to learn that Hannibal covered more distance against Burnley than any other United player has covered in a single game since 2019. That tells you all you need to know about some of our players.

Bruno should come back in, he’s been pretty good, not as bad as some people claim.

Rashford is an interesting one. He will score more goals than Garnacho over the course of the season. Garnacho did ok last night but he needs to be more patient. He was throwing his arms around whenever he didn’t receive the ball, which might not have been caught on tv.

11.) 27 Sep 2023
27 Sep 2023 14:25:27
Are we being serious here? Palace were bloody awful, it was practically their reserves, the first team will be back for them on Saturday and also for us.

It was good to see the squad players playing well yesterday in an easy game but leave out Bruno? Haha you have to be joking.

12.) 27 Sep 2023
27 Sep 2023 14:26:42
Rashford is a good player, but does he suit a team that wants to "control" games as EtH keeps saying?

He loses the ball far too often, is weak in physical battles and makes little to no effort to press or track back.

He seems to be someone who maybe suits a counter attack side a lot more?

13.) 27 Sep 2023
27 Sep 2023 14:40:48
GSD2,

Do you think Bruno's performances so far make him an automatic starter?

Sure he is the Captain, but so was Maguire last year and he was dropped. Bruno along with Ericsson have been guilty for hoofing the ball and giving it away.

14.) 27 Sep 2023
27 Sep 2023 14:56:23
All this slagging of Rashford is unbelievable. Class players will score and assist more than anyone in this team. A no brainer starter for me and seems the manager thinks that way too.

15.) 27 Sep 2023
27 Sep 2023 15:10:01
I'd echo GDS2. You cannot draw any conclusions from that game. Palace hardly came out of their shell even when they were losing in a KO competition. The Carabao was clearly not their priority. That said, against a lacklustre and unenergetic side, Garnacho did well, as did Mount, Martial and Amrabat. The central defenders were hardly troubled and did what little was asked of them. Pellistri worked hard but seems very light weight, gets hustled off the ball, and, frankly, seems just a little bit slow. A top winger would have scored last night from one opportunity he was given. Same goes for the game against Bayern when he had the ball tackled away from him from behind when a goal looked nailed on. I don't see Pellistri having a future at United. Beyond his hustle I've yet to be impressed by Antony but for me he remains the better choice, assuming he ever returns.

By the way I predicted at the beginning of the season that we would be surprised by Martial this year, if he can remain fit. There's nothing like the termination of a lucrative contract to inspire a player who wants to remain amongst the elite when it comes to compensation.

No way Rashford and Bruno get dropped for the game this weekend. Rashford has not had a good start to the season but he has looked our most dangerous player. Ten Hag has to persist with the plan to create a partnership between Rashford and Hojlund. Pity Garnacho isn't a left winger.

16.) 27 Sep 2023

Pellestri should have been a pen last night, incredible that it wasn't given. So therefore a bit harsh level against him he is light weight for that.

Hoping for mount off the right on sat, bruno amrabat cass in midfield and rash left (not striker) and hoyland OR Martial up top.

I am just excited that we finally have options in some of these positions, and I really hope to see Eth bring off the so called stars and rotation these great options from the bench. Garnacho needs 30 mins, not 5. Plus the odd start and he is developing well.

20.) 27 Sep 2023
27 Sep 2023 18:08:36
What has been ‘constructive’ about the criticism that Rashford has received? I think that inconsistency is not the preserve of young players. Fernandes is probably the worst culprit.

21.) 27 Sep 2023
27 Sep 2023 18:38:23
My thoughts just now have been stuck on the Match posts page.

Rashford looked like he was sulking, Garnacho scored played well, what is the encouragement for the kid if he is automatically dropped?

22.) 27 Sep 2023
27 Sep 2023 19:33:30
Red Man,

He played because it was the carabao cup, if he’s back on the bench he is not ‘dropped’.

GDS

Do you think Rashford has been playing well, creating chances, scoring goals and should automatically come straight back in? Has he earned that? Or has he been wasteful, sulky at times? Did he accept the score in Munich? This isn’t Rashford on form, nor does it seem Rashford with the right attitude.

I can argue for Bruno coming back in, there is a lot less argument for Rashford.

24.) 27 Sep 2023
27 Sep 2023 20:43:37
Good performance, amazing what legs and energy can do to a team, plus having more options! Great to see Mount do well, already being made a scapegoat after two games! He along with all this summer signings will prove excellent imo!

As regards leave Bruno out this weekend because he’s been poor …… do me a favour! Did you miss the Burnley game! He’s our match winner and has been time and time again!

Well done ETH and all the players last night! Onwards we go!

25.) 27 Sep 2023

Rashford has 3 assists and a goal in six games. 2 of those games he played as a striker because we had no other options and he had very poor game and poor service from both sides and the whole team was really poor and i am sure he was upset or you call it sulking, natural to be upset when your team is playing poorly.

You have this thing with some of our younger players were you see something I just don't see.

I just don't even see a debate there talking about rashford or garnacho atm.

You think its a anamoly for rash to be valued at 100 mill and garnacho at 25/ 30. When was rash sulking last night? he was all smiles with the team after the game and acknowledging the fans.

What did Garnacho actually do last night for eth to drop rash. Scoring against a second string palace team?

Neither wingers or wing play did much last night btw including pellistri and dalot bombing forward was the reason we created most things off the right hand side. cas was the star of the show and not our wing play.

I agree with shaw"s comments and also not a antony fan but there is quite a gap between pellistri and antony. Amad is more of a player than pellistri imo but unfortunately he is injured.

27.) 28 Sep 2023
28 Sep 2023 06:02:49
Bit of a budding Rashford bromance starting up there!

But in all fairness he is 25. That is not really young in the modern day scheme of things. He has less years ahead of him as a player that have gone. He should now be a leader by example in both attitude and performance. It’s funny how a few of the same people that slagged off Ole for awarding mediocrity are now calling for Rash to just walk on the park regardless of output.

I am not slagging him off. I love the bloke as a player, especially when hi is on form. It’s just an observation. Remember last time he was “benched” how he came back and smashed it. I sincerely hope he does that again.

On another note. I would bench Hannibal just for this next game. Not on form or effort in any way. Love his enthusiasm. Purely as a short sharp lesson in staying calm and playing to a yellow card. More cynical players will milk those challenges and get him sent off.

With you. Looks to me like in some peoples eyes Rashford doesn’t have to earn his place in the team, he is an automatic selection. We cry out for leaders in the team, yet in Munich it looked like he sulked. If a player comes in, plays well, scores, why should he be dropped.

Ahmad
Our history is about youth. Garnacho is just 19 and playing for Argentina, you can bet Real Madrid would take him in an instant. He played well and shoukd retain his place if it’s to send the right message.

29.) 28 Sep 2023
28 Sep 2023 09:09:28
Redman

Our history of giving youth a chance is still the same and nothing has changed. There is 5/ 6 now in the squad since eth arrived. What they make of it is on them and if they are good enough. Unfortunately many just turn out to be decent sell on type players and not good enough for united. Best one we have produced in the last 20 years is playing in Spain because he is a bonehead.

Real Madrid will most likely sign Mbappe and they have Vinicius and he will never get a game there. There will be other top teams, which would gladly take him but they don't have a Rashford on the left wing.

Garnacho is a talent no doubt but you don't bench your best player/ star player to give Garnacho minutes. He played 15 minutes of football for Argentina as a sub when they were up 2-0, which also secures his services for that country. Di Maria starts for Argentina whenever available and he flopped at united.

You find them minutes as subs, cup games and when you are resting players until such time they are ready to stake a claim and have closed the gap. You also have to manage the load on young players and playing them too often and too early actually burns many out.

Its actually a good thing to have options and dilemmas of finding minutes for the players.

I suspect when Amad and Mainoo are back there will be lots of debates on who should be playing but its a good thing.

Wrong message both to Rashford and to Garnacho.

Garnacho, you are not going to be selected, no matter how you perform. Goal and play well, nope irrelevant.
Rashford, you are going to be selected whatever you do. Sulk against Munich, not play well, no problem

It’s Crystal Palace again, not City. The media big up Rashford, but he doesn’t do as well against teams sitting deep because he can’t use his pace into space. He may well play, may well score but it isn’t the right message if we want competition for places.

Red Man, I agree in principle about form players getting the chance. But this was one game. The first good performance he's had this season. That shouldn't mean you're a shoo-in for starting the next game.

I don’t look at status. I look at the performances players are bringing. Of course, players have credits - but not for too long. Every time, let's say this - you're only as good as your last game.

“When you don’t bring the performance a couple of games in a row, then it's possible players can take over your position. I'm not a manager who has concerns about bringing young players in - in the first two games of the season, I started Alejandro Garnacho. ”

Tumbleweed, that is the actual message of ETH. Will he practice what he preaches?

34.) 30 Sep 2023
30 Sep 2023 09:08:05
Redman. Who has the most goals and assists this season so far from our forwards?
Rashford is 1st choice on lw and the manager won't change that. His development with rasmus needs time in the pitch and eth will give that because he understands that these things don't happen over night.
He is a manager with a plan and he will give time for that plan to develop. That's the right message. He won't knee jersey for the wrong reasons.
Your man garnacho needs to play better when he gets his chances. He will develop at the rate a 19 year old should and he will get plenty of game time.
I'm looking forward to supporting the team the manager picks not sniping every time he doesn't do what I'd like him to.

35.) 30 Sep 2023

Tumbleweed

Garnacho isn’t “my man”, he is however extremely talented and my point is that we should not have automatic selection. I support the team, always have, but the manager is a transitory employee. If we can’t discuss the players because you call it sniping, that’s cancel culture.

I don’t want the club to lose potentially a really outstanding youth, who needs playing time or we will lose him. I have said before I think he is right footed, play him on the right to give him time if needed.

Rashford has been up and down, at 25 he should be the finished article, but I didn’t like what I saw of his attitude in Munich and have seen it at other times as well.

I think ETH will bring him back and drop Garnacho today, I disagree with that. It’s an opinion, you have a different one and that’s fine.
