I think we need to be more defensively sturdy against City.

I'd be tempted to play 442 diamond with Rashford and either Sancho or Weghorst up top to start with Garnacho an option on the bench against tiring legs.

Play Casemiro at the base, Eriksen and Bruno right and left and Fred at the top as a disrupter shutting down Rodri and stopping them building from midfield.

No point trying to play a possession based style against City they are too good and we won't get enough of the ball. Better to play in a manner that limits them and look to play quick transitions. Use Rashford's pace in behind and probably Weghorst's pressing, work rate and possibly as a target man.

It won't be pretty, but if we win the cup who will care.

I don't think we have any other choice AJH. It surely is the final chance for Martial and shows he can't be relied on regardless of how much he plays.
In hindsight should have rested him against Fulham but I get he plays best after a run of games

If this means Weghorst starts then I believe we would lose. We must not overcommit and must keep it tight at the start, ensure we compete in midfield, protect our full back areas. Weghorst would be a disaster, if I see him in the starting line up, I will feel frankly like we have little chance.

I don't think there is any scenario where I'd play Weghorst. Not a single one. I would Pack the midfield and use Garnacho and Rashford to counter.

Seems that way. He’s done - nobody will buy him, but they might loan him to Italy where he may fare better.

I find the timing of Erik mentioning Greenwood no coincidence just as this is happening. No way we can afford two strikers to replace Martial and a new No9. I think we will see Greenwood back playing understudy to Kane or whomever we buy to play up front.

The thing is no one will pay money for him AND match his 250k per week wages. In fact I think there are very few sides that would take him that could afford to pay him more than 100k per week at most.

I suspect he'll either stay for his final year and be a squad player, or head out on loan before leaving for free in the summer of 2024.

Blessing in disguise this latest martial injury, Garnacho should be starting most games tbh, Sancho right and Rash thru the middle. Funny how martial injures again when the transfer window upcoming. Still a few to get rid of, DDG, Maguire, Scotty Mac, Fred, Martial, question marks over Sancho and tbh Shaw, RB slot losing Sabitzer and other GK’s, lots to do to get this squad in shape with in and outs.
I’ve said a while but Raya, Kim, Amrabat, Kane be great window and I feel you can get away with the full backs we have and even DDG to a degree playing out from back if we’ve 2 top quality CBS and Cas/ DM there.

I think the key to beat (or at least slow down) City is relentless pressing in midfield, cutting off the supply to de Bruyn. Love him or hate him I think Fred has to start because Eriksen isn't going to do that. Then cross your fingers, as there are 10 more de Bruyns!
We are so limited up front, now Martial has been ruled out it's safe to assume Wieghorst will play some part. Unless Garnacho starts, Wieghorst probably will.

I'd have Fred over Eriksen all day long for this game. Have to be in their faces in the middle, and I could see the game just passing Eriksen by. Start off strong, in about them, and hope to sneak a first goal on the break.

Tactics on the weekend are simple be as aggressive as possible without stepping over the line.

They have a bigger game in a week and will not want to get injured ahead of that, lots of early tackles, let them know they have a game on their hands and see if they back off.

As everyone else has said, win the midfield battle and hit them on the counter.
