So Fonte has handed in a transfer request.

stoatweed

1.) 05 Jan 2017 21:44:57
He'll do well at West Ham.

2.) 06 Jan 2017 09:53:10
Well said Eric :)

Hull have bid £10m for Ashley Young, it's a fire sale.

stoatweed

1.) 10 Aug 2016 19:12:27
Source?

{Ed041's Note - 10m for ashley young? Yeh I think he's been on the sauce :)

2.) 10 Aug 2016 19:38:38
Id be very surprised if we got rid of Ashley Young. Very versatile and when not injured puts in a solid performance.
Good back up for me.

3.) 10 Aug 2016 19:50:01
Great business if this happens, getting old, big wages and free's up space for an up and coming player.

4.) 10 Aug 2016 20:54:01
Here here beast . Can't see anybody passing that.

5.) 11 Aug 2016 06:43:15
The same source that is claiming we will be in for Sanchez next year. No idea if it's true but always worth mentioning.

01 Aug 2016 12:06:38
Heard a rumour Fellaini to Sunderland is almost a done deal, I know he has his detractors on here but I would be sad to see him leave.

stoatweed

1.) 01 Aug 2016 12:31:39
i would be surprised to be honest but the lad may want first team footy.

2.) 01 Aug 2016 12:34:32
I think a move to Sunderland would be good for Fellaini. Never thought he was good enough to do the role he did at Everton for us and we had better players in that role and he certainly is not a DM so we didn't really suit his game.

Might have a look at him for the Fantasy Football Team if he goes though, could get back amongst the goals although not sure the cards will stop coming his way!

3.) 01 Aug 2016 13:01:40
It wouldn't surprise me. I've been saying saying it for a while.
Seems like a really decent lad off the pitch and I would like to see him move on and do a good job for Sunderland.
Just not the type of player that's fits the club imo. There is no doubt he has good attributes but not best suited to United imo.

4.) 01 Aug 2016 13:27:27
im not sure he is a united player although i'm not sure what that is any more but he could be a jose player .

he definitely gives you a different option and jose tends to like that.

5.) 01 Aug 2016 13:30:16
I think signing Fellani was a bit like when Liverpool signed Speedie, you knew standards were slipping. He may be a nice guy and a decent player but he was never right for us.

6.) 01 Aug 2016 13:34:33
Agreed. Great fantasy football addition if he joins a club where everything goes through him!

7.) 01 Aug 2016 14:13:14
Good news, Moyes has said Fellaini is too good for Sunderland.

8.) 01 Aug 2016 14:40:11
Spot on tony great analogy.

9.) 01 Aug 2016 15:43:30
I can't stand the guy HOWEVER, after last season i gained a little espect for him and thnk jose can make use of the big lump 😊.

10.) 01 Aug 2016 15:53:15
I do respect him. Really good Pro in many ways although he has poor regard for opponents well being.
I just don't want him in our team. I agree He offers something different.

11.) 01 Aug 2016 17:11:23
"I'd love to have that level of player, " said moyes. "Realistically, that's probably not going to happen. "
Moyes on the wig.

31 Aug 2015 11:10:13
Januzaj off to Dortmund on loan, Hernandez to Leverkusen

stoatweed

1.) 31 Aug 2015 11:13:58
Januzaj sweetener for Reus?

2.) 31 Aug 2015 11:15:21
With Januzaj and Hernandez gone we are surely brining someone in?

I'd be annoyed if we didn't at least ask about Reus when discussing Januzaj with Dortmund.

3.) 31 Aug 2015 11:15:59
if them 2 go we surely have to have players lined up, the squad will be far to small and not enough quality up top to challenge.

hummells would be nice in the deal with adnan.

4.) 31 Aug 2015 11:35:09
if that's the case, we are left with fellaini, Wilson and rooney. We must be bringing at least 2/3 forwards in. We have cut our squad down big time, and have more fixtures this season, I think we are in for some big surprises

5.) 31 Aug 2015 11:59:11
seems like 1 of them would be anthony martial with France conforming that they have allowed him leave to get his transfer to utd sorted out as per France football official website

6.) 31 Aug 2015 11:59:17
Martial on his way to sign contract!

One down
The eternal optimist in me is reading stuff in to the adnan to dortmund story I'm hoping rues or hummels

7.) 31 Aug 2015 12:13:32
Reus, Reus, Reus :) And again some news circulating about Greizman.

07 Aug 2015 11:18:02
So it is Club Brugge couldn't have asked for better than that.

stoatweed

1.) 07 Aug 2015 15:45:32
Cheers stowed you have pretty much guaranteed we will get knocked out now haha

2.) 07 Aug 2015 15:55:56
Don't be so fatalistic.

3.) 07 Aug 2015 17:50:41
God I hope van gaal is not playing silly buggers by dropping de gea. I'm sure de gea is professional enough not to stand in goal and not make any saves. If his head has been turned by Madrid then fair enough , but I'm sure his head was turned long before the USA tour , so why take him in the first place.
We need a winning start this year , Hope van gaal as got some other players lined up , striker , centre back , and now possibly a world class goalkeeper.
You wait for months for the new season to start , then get the news de gea has been dropped.
DEFLATED.

4.) 07 Aug 2015 18:21:20
I'm speculating but maybe LVG told DDG that it was too near to the start of the season to move and that he would have to say. Naturally DDG would be disappointed and that is why LVG decided not to play him tomorrow.

5.) 07 Aug 2015 19:59:07
He is going. detail to be sorted out. expect him to be gone by end of next week. Over 30 million i reckon.

So the date of Richard Arnold taking over from Ed has been set as 1 Feb.

While we can all probably think of plenty of negatives, what positives did Ed W. bring to United during his time in charge?

stoatweed

1.) 06 Jan 2022 13:48:35
In all fairness Richard Arnold did a great job on good morning Britain, so I'm expecting big things from him, he's definitely connected to the celeb circles, maybe David Platt (corrie) as next manager? The possibilities are endless!

2.) 06 Jan 2022 13:51:09
None from a footballing perspective, a disaster.

Commercially, financially? No idea but I'm sure there were a few.

3.) 06 Jan 2022 14:00:56
He made the EPL a more competitive league by destroying the most dominant side.

4.) 06 Jan 2022 14:01:56
Biggest positive…him leaving. Honestly other than making the owners money through commercial deals I can’t think of any positives to his tenure. From a purely football standpoint (the essence of a football club) I can’t think of one decision he has got right, we are miles away from where we should be and structurally we’re a mess.

5.) 06 Jan 2022 14:46:53
he did what he was paid to do. can knock him but the revenue he brought in for a team not won anything in 8 seasons you cannot knock.

what other team would still be as competitive on that side>?

shame the footballing side was neglected and ran badly.

6.) 06 Jan 2022 15:15:31
From a business sense he was fantastic.
Revenues were up and Manchester United PLC were very profitable which made the Glazers even more happy.
The less said the better on the football side of things.

7.) 06 Jan 2022 15:36:18
He brought nothing positive, toxic little rat! He didn’t make United money we’d of done that regardless! Head man of a vile toxic regime! Arnold is another we need rid of!

8.) 06 Jan 2022 13:48:35

Anyone seen the shop on the Man Utd website, with the picture of a sad looking Januzaj with 25% off sale underneath. Good to see that the website staff have a sense if humour.

Why was Louis Walsh driving Pogba into Carrington?

stoatweed

1.) 09 Aug 2016 04:59:13
Maybe he's going to manage Pogba's rap career? 😋.

06 Aug 2016 22:39:50
As we have followed Pogba's movements across the US over the last month, I think he could be the new Judith Chalmers, you can see the show now, Pogba's Postcards.

stoatweed

1.) 07 Aug 2016 08:37:58
Or Pogba's parties. This week Paul is at a pool party in LA.

2.) 07 Aug 2016 08:49:22
Or " How to triple your wages "

3.) 07 Aug 2016 09:18:17
Around the world in 80 days with Paulius Pog.

4.) 07 Aug 2016 16:03:25
Denis Irwin i would guess, so understated but so good at what he did.

29 Jul 2016 12:30:01
I was just looking at our strongest line-up for next season and apart from Bailly, Shaw and Mikhtaryn none of them have yet had a match, with the season starting in two weeks and only three pre-seasons games left, does it concern anyone that we might not be ready for Bournemouth.

stoatweed

1.) 29 Jul 2016 12:39:10
I think everyone will be a bit rusty to start off with.

2.) 29 Jul 2016 12:39:22
Nope. Not at all. If the manager isn't happy i'm sure a BCD game can be arranged.

3.) 29 Jul 2016 12:41:05
I think players like Zlatan and Rooney can slot straight in. I do worry about the other but i think it will be a gradual thing, so 3 games in we then have the strongest squad.

4.) 29 Jul 2016 13:01:30
Not really as we don't know what our strongest XI is yet. Carrick might play more than schneiderlin, TFM more than darmian and Jones more than Smalling and Bailly. they've all been with us since the start of pre season.

Also three games should be enough to get the likes of rooney martial, ibra and de gea up to full match fitness.

5.) 29 Jul 2016 17:11:57
Our pre-season preparations have once again been shambolic. I understand that it's our global appeal that allows us to be linked with players like Pogba - but at the same time would love to see some consideration given to the conditioning of the team. Traveling half way around the world and only playing one game is ridiculous.

At best we will end up having played four pre-season games (two of which most of our first team didn't feature in) . Dortmund, on the other hand, will have played ten.

6.) 29 Jul 2016 18:48:51
I mentioned this before. I think we'll be seriously undercooked at the start of the season, which is a shame when there's so much optimism about the place. Happy Birthday, Ed01, by the way.

{Ed001's Note - cheers Noucamp!}

This is what Ed02 wrote late last year in the now legendary shappy-esque update post, hope this helps.

Boubacar Kamara (DM/ CB) is doing himself no favours by not committing to a new contract. Bayern Munich are still keen and may well have a pressing need to replace Marc Roca in January. Marseille have been approached by a third party on behalf of Newcastle, but they will be seen as a less than attractive option. Milan may just bite and look for a pre-contract, but Marseille could look to a January sale with ex scout Georges Santos joining West Ham and recommending the player - but he would probably be a Declan Rice replacement if anything were to happen, so it is unlikely. Interest of Chelsea has shifted elsewhere but Barcelona remains keen on taking Boubacar Kamara and a member of the Marseille staff. The member of Marseille staff says she is still hopeful that agreement can be reached to extend his contract. If there is no decision by the end of December, then Marseille accept he will move on - possibly as a Free Agent. Manchester United have spoken with his agent, which would be as a Matic replacement. Manchester City, like Chelsea, have a preferred option now.

Yeah he was good on Pogba, it's an odd one though, that would mean Mourinho doesn't fancy Martial on the left wing. Maybe he see Martial's future up front with Sanchez, Mikhtaryn and Rashford playing behind for next season. It's just speculation at the moment but would be interesting.

I would argue that Evra and Vidic were low-key purchases, started off badly then became regulars.

We still look quite brittle at the back, maybe that is down to the continual changing line-up in the back four, needs some consistency.

Maybe Pogba wanted a bigger share of the image rights than Madrid were prepared to pay him.
Ed002 said last year that Barcelona was Pogba's favoured destination but Barcelona needed to clear space on their wage bill before taking on Pogba and with Messi staying put the transfer was never going to happen.
It's odd that a team like Madrid who have never been short of money seem to struggle to raise funds to buy whover they want, you got to wonder if there are some real financial issues at the club.

{Ed001's Note - they no longer have govt assistance....}
