Where's fuser hiding, he's gone awfully quiet. Guessing he's gone off to eat his words!

Okay, after much thought I've decided, if we manage to get sesko over the line and in the door, what do our thoughts turn to next? A goalkeeper or a midfielder are widely touted. With Chelsea and Garnacho sniffing around each other like dogs on heat, my choice would be forgetting the 100 mil donkey 'Jackson' and putting the feelers out for Lavia in that swap situation. Young and raw maybe, but a quality operator. Too good to rot away in the abyss of the Chelsea squad in my opinion! Thoughts?

If we get Sesko our next signing afterwards very much depends on how we get Sesko.
If for example the deal includes Højlund going the other way, then we have effectively swapped one young player with potential for another young player with potential.
That still leaves us with just a unproven 22 year old and a 17 year old Chido Obi as our striker options. Which leaves us pretty light up top.
We've all agreed that the biggest issue with Højlund is that he hasn't had an older, experienced player to learn from and to play ahead of him so that he can come in and out of the line up to learn and develop his game.
If we replace Højlund with Sesko then surely Sesko will have the same issue. Therefore, I think we'd still need another striker. Possibly someone like Wissa or Mateta, older with EPL experience who might be available for 35-40m. Which should be our next target if Højlund leaves as part of the Sesko deal.
If Højlund stays and we have both Sesko and Højlund as options then we can look at either a midfielder or keeper at that point. As while not ideal having two 22 year old strikers, we shouldn't look to add a third player for what is one position in the team.
However, if we sign Sesko without including Højlund in the deal then that will cost us more money. It seems the crux between Sesko/ Watkins is down to value. United feel that Watkins is the better option, but don't value him at the 60m it will cost to get him. While they feel that Sesko is also over priced, his age and the potential to recoup some of that initial spend make him a less financially risky proposition.
However, the club had hoped to bring in Watkins for around 40-45m. If they end up bringing in Sesko for 65-70m then that's a lot more money spent and therefore less to spend on either a keeper or a midfielder.
As to which they should go prioritise, I think that depends on the role of the player they are signing.
If we are going for a genuine challenger for Onana, someone who has the ability and potential to take his place then we should definitely try and sign that keeper. However, I'd we are only looking at keepers who are solid back up, with the thought that Onana will stay as first choice this season then I'd rather us sign a midfielder as a midfielder will have far more impact on the team than a second choice keeper.

I think the only keeper in the world that could be 2nd choice to onana is bayindir.
So any keeper coming in will push onana for his place. He has been garbage since the day he signed.

Chelsea are definitely not sniffing around Garnacho ? they have J. Pedro, Gittens, Neto, Estevao, Palmer, Delap and Jackson with it looking likely they’ll also get Xavi Simons. Even if Jackson left there’s still no space for Garnacho.
4.) 01 Aug 2025 09:32:19
I'm not sure at what point Bayindir become so maligned among us.
There was a stage last season where he came in and did quite well. Jump forward a few months and he's another laughing stock. How have we ended up in this situation lol.
Looks like a few stellar names like Donnarumma/ Costa continue to be linked, can't see those happening myself. There were a few English GKs avail recently like Trafford and Ramsdale who might have been worth punts but missed the boat on those.

Fuser, do you even follow football? Majority of the players you mention aren’t even wingers and would have no impact on signing a winger whatsoever!? There is definitely space in Chelsea’s squad for a winger and they’ve even talked about getting one in themselves? Open your eyes mate, fabrizio Romano tweeted just this morning that Chelsea are actively pursuing deals for both simons and garnacho. It’s literally everywhere you look!

Just pondering the thought of ronaldo leaving and being in a situation of needing an out an out 9. I've often thought why a 'big' club hasn't had a punt on him. His record is poor in the prem, but he seems a different animal now! And he has never really had the top service whilst playing in struggling teams. The way he gobbled up a certain scouser with ease shows me that if you feed him he will score goals. He will be a problem in any teams penalty area, he's a bully. And his goal scoring feats last season are unheard of, albeit in the championship. Could you get him running though in a pressing team?
Aleksandar Mitrovic? Thoughts.
1.) 07 Aug 2022 12:07:49
Played very well last year. He's a handful when he tries. Questionable attitude in the past, but he seems to have matured.
Why would he leave Fulham to come to United?
2.) 07 Aug 2022 12:43:24
Get him in for gameweek 3 for sure.
3.) 07 Aug 2022 13:05:52
I think he could be a decent signing all things considered.
The reality is that we will struggle to attract top tier options given our current situation. While there is actually few top options available on the market this summer. Mbappe signed a new deal with PSG, Lewandowski moved to Barcelona, Haaland to City, Nunez to Liverpool, Vlahovic to Juventus, Dybala to Roma. Benzema will be staying at Real Madrid, Schick has signed a new deal with Leverkusen, while Martinez will be staying at Inter.
If there was a top class striker option available then both Chelsea and Bayern Munich would likely be ahead of us in the pecking order at the moment given their UCL status.
That leaves us with either signing either a young talented player with top class potential. Or signing a player who is proven but at a lower level who could step up.
Normally I'd be all for signing a potentially world class young player. However, given the level of pressure and expectations that would be on them with few other options in the squad to carry the burden then it's a big risk. Especially given the spotlight and increased pressure that comes with playing for Manchester United.
Someone like Sesko for example is a really interesting option, but he just turned 19 in May and has never played in a truly top league. He does represent a huge gamble, and would likely have to carry the goalscoring burden if Ronaldo leaves.
Stepping up to the EPL, with the huge fee we'd end up playing, the increased spotlight, his limited experience and the limited protection of an older player to carry the burden might be too much for him.
Is he more developed and have greater experience than Depay when he signed for us?
Maybe he can handle it, maybe he's more emotionally and mentally mature. It's a gamble though, and would likely be for any player of a similar age with similar experience.
Personally maybe someone like Mitrovic or Toney would be a better short to medium term option.
We have highly rated young forwards in our academy in McNeil and Hugill.
Sesko could maybe benefit from another year playing in Austria. Nothing stopping us going back for him in a year's time. Probably easier for a young player making a step up like that if they are moving to a more settled side that is used to and fully adapted to the demands of a new manager, like we will be next summer.
Ultimately we should make the move the manager thinks is best. I just wonder that for such a key position with so much pressure on it we might be better off looking for a more stable option that while might not have the same ceiling, is less of a gamble and more likely to provide a solid season.
4.) 07 Aug 2022 15:56:06
The arrogance to even suggest that we can just swoop in and take these players, or that they'd be interested.
5.) 07 Aug 2022 16:24:37
That’s the attitude our board and owners have and it’s costing us time and time again. Not sure where the arrogance comes from as we’ve done nothing over the past 10 years to warrant it.
6.) 07 Aug 2022 16:26:09
Shappy i am amused you think we can just get fulhams best player who probably will be their key guy if they stay up. Delusuonal stuff on this page.
7.) 07 Aug 2022 16:32:25
Shappy, Sesko has all the top teams wanting him. Buy him now and take the gamble. Or, let him stay at Salsburg, have a good season, then the price will be £90m and the top teams will be favourites to sign him.
In my opinion, we need Sesko and another striker. And we need to give McNeil a chance too.
Like I keep harping on, we do not score enough goals, and that's the biggest problem we have.
8.) 07 Aug 2022 17:19:18
Our main issue is that we have many, and I mean many, players who are nowhere near good enough. Shaw, Dalot, McTominay, Fred, Fernandes and Rashford cannot be relied upon. We cannot expect to dominate teams and try to pass them off the park with Fred and McTominay in the engine room. It is just not going to work. It is just a pity that we have been unable to get the requisite players in by this stage. I know we have a bit of time left in the transfer window, but what damage will have been done to the team’s morale and to the manager’s reputation if we don’t get players in immediately?
