Happy and surprised Villa have left Gestede on the bench when we're weak in the air at the back. Come on United!

MDH

1.) 14 Aug 2015 21:55:52
Well if that's the kind of performance we can expect all season like the one against villa , it's going to be a long long season. What the hell is van gaal playing at.Rooney dreadful , Depay 30 million ?, I know a win is a win , but come on , when we play one of the bigger teams we will get trounced , 3 shots on target in two games is not a title winning way to play.
Seems van gaal has ripped out our way of playing , to defensive IMO , the sooner van gaal retires the better for me , our identity has gone and it shows in the players and the way we now play.
Sorry to rant and rave and it's early in the season , but we had this last season . I was hoping this year would be different , but my god something needs to happen quickly . Striker and electric paced winger needed , or I'm afraid we will win nothing again .

2.) 14 Aug 2015 22:52:29
We need a new young fast paced striker! Rooney was shocking!

3.) 14 Aug 2015 23:34:41
Rock,

You are questioning the price tag of a 21 year old after 2 games in the league? I actually thought he did ok, always looking to attack and go at the defence which is different to a lot of the other players.

4.) 14 Aug 2015 23:45:05
Rock

You act like you know a lot about football so you should know the first 6 games mean nothing. It's how teams are playing in October that counts. There's a lot of new players settling in and, let's be honest. Rooney didn't hold anything long enough for anything to develop. At this stage, a win's a win.

{Ed007's Note - So if Utd lost their first 6 games and were 15/18 points off of Chelsea you's be on here saying relax, the first 6 games mean nothing? Behave yourself!}

5.) 14 Aug 2015 23:32:39
We are all aware that you like them young, Ronnie. You could've just said fast paced.

6.) 15 Aug 2015 00:26:22
GDS2 for once we agree something lol too early to be getting on memphis back got to play him on the wing tho.I think I would be looking at playing Wilson or chicarito in next game rooney cldnt even do the basics tonight he was awful.I would take the captaincy off him too and give to BS when he's fit and starting

7.) 15 Aug 2015 05:23:28
Nach,

We agree on the banter page about schweinsteiger as well, maybe this is the start of something beautiful?

8.) 15 Aug 2015 09:12:00
louis van gaal is playing defensive that is the truth and i agree against the bigger teams we are going to struggle. aston villa and spurs both were able to keep hold of the ball without any pressure because we playing with two deep lying midfielders and i don't see the sense in that since we dominated teams last season with only the one holding midfielder. when schneiderlin signed i was under the impression that he was going to have a role where he joins in attack and help defend. because to me that's how schneiderlin is best he is made for that role but again how could i expect van gaal to do that. if the likes of man city them keep hold of the ball the way villa and spurs could we are going to be in deep trouble. yet again he saw if you play ander herrera in the cam role we will hold the ball better . as afor wayne idk what they going to do there because you can't be the striker and when richards and clark have the ball in their half then wayne is in our half lol.

9.) 15 Aug 2015 07:18:09
Ed007

No, I'm not saying that and you know that, so behave yourself too. I'm talking in performance terms. The first 6 and last 6 are always about the points you get, not how you perform. If performances in the first 6 were all that counted, how many times would Arsenal have won the league in the last ten years?

I was highly frustrated at times with the performance last night but a significant percentage of the problem was Rooney - if you're away from home and the ball bounces off your centre forward every time, you're going to look disjointed (especially when the team is set up to allow him to drop deep). I think Depay's decision making wasn't great and he was lazy in possession at times, and Mata doesn't have the pace to destroy the right flank. Januzaj did well first half, faded second.

The biggest issue at the moment is the midfielders getting used to each other so they can learn when to break forward - that's making us a little static in the middle at the moment. That is something that comes with time together. Equally, I think Herrerra would bring it more naturally in there but he showed three times last night why LVG has an issue with him, losing possession cheaply on the edge of the Villa box. But I'd still have him in there alongside 2 of the other 3.

The other question is - how attacking can we be with our current centre back pairing and goalkeeper? Are we setting up to keep opponents in front of them because we're worried about pace in behind?

I'm not certain LVG will get us where we want to be but a) good coaches make sure teams work defensively before attacking (SAF included) and b) pressing the panic button game 2 isn't getting anybody anywhere.

{Ed007's Note - So you didn't say:

'You act like you know a lot about football so you should know the first 6 games mean nothing. It's how teams are playing in October that counts.'

No mention of performances or anything else.}

10.) 15 Aug 2015 12:43:56
Monkeyballs, at this point, ok I'd prefer a 'younger' striker, but anyone after the way Rooney played last night!

Edds, is Dom Beradi classed as a winger or striker or is it he's quite effective doing both?

Also, please excuse me for this, but would Charlie Austin be worth a punt? At 25/26 he was banging them in for qpr last season, kinda like a fox in the box!

Stick with Hernandez, got pace? We just seem to have good possession with no end product? Striker needed Louis!

Also Edds, are reports we are interested in Lavezzi of PSG true?

11.) 15 Aug 2015 12:47:14
I disagree with GDS2.
I thought Depay was terrible, and Rooney worse.
But delighted with points
😎

12.) 15 Aug 2015 13:15:36
It's was an average performance as was Spurs. But 6 points is 6 points. Some of the comments her read as though we got beat both games.

13.) 15 Aug 2015 17:05:36
Ed007

I was replying to Rock who was talking about the quality of the performance being poor despite the results being OK - that was the context.

So, FA Cup against lower league opposition tonight. Any youngsters likely to get a game?

I hope we play most of the first team but give a few a rest and blood some youth. The rest will do a few players good after the hectic Christmas period and it's always nice to see youngsters get a chance, especially if it's alongside the majority of the first team.

MDH

1.) 05 Jan 2018 13:16:22
Really want to see Tuanzebe giving a game tonight. With Bailly and Jones injured and a question mark over the fitness of Rojo it would be foolish to not give Tuanzebe and run out and protect one of Smalling or Lindelof as they are our only senior fully fit centre backs. Would like to see McTominay given a run out too.

2.) 05 Jan 2018 13:20:56
I hope we play the same team we played against Everton MDH. Think we need consistency with selection and we need to keep the momentum up from the last game. We have chopped and changed a lot this year due to several factors so I the less changes the better to allow the players to get used to playing together and to create partnerships across the pitch. However, I do expect Lukaku to start and Martial to be shifted out to the wing.

3.) 05 Jan 2018 14:05:44
Good shout Shappy. If the few centre backs we have left were to pick up an injury at least Axel would also have another games experience to his name.

I'm sort of with you Park, would just like to see 2 or 3 youngsters thrown in with 8 or 9 regulars to balance momentum, gained experience and rest-time.

4.) 05 Jan 2018 14:37:34
Agree with you chaps would love to see Tuanzebe start tonight. But I would keep the attack and midfield the same. If I’m correct we haven’t got a game for 10 days after this so plenty of time to rest and recuperate. I hope we show fight and desire compared to when we played Bristol City. I’m sure we will and if we do we should win comfortably.

5.) 05 Jan 2018 14:59:21
would love to see angel gomes get a game. romero

6.) 05 Jan 2018 15:03:41
Derby are not a bad team the FA Cup is prob the only realistic chance we have of silverware so I want us to put out a strong and committed team.

7.) 05 Jan 2018 15:44:06
I can see Gribbin on the bench and I’d love to see Angel gomes there too but can’t see both being in the squad.

8.) 05 Jan 2018 19:43:30
Well that was predictable. Shame no youngsters made the bench. I'd have hoped we could have had a mixture of experience and youth for scenario a (tight game) and b (comfortable enough lead to blood the youth, mind you, when have we last had one of those! ) .

If Spurs don't win tomorrow. Leicester would be crowned Champions if they beat us. Who'd have thought at the start of the season!?

I'd like to see them win it, but they can wait for it.!

MDH

1.) 24 Apr 2016 19:44:05
If spurs draw tomorrow and Leicester beat us spurs can still win the title.

2.) 24 Apr 2016 20:05:03
It's a real worry for our chances of top four.

I expect Spurs to win tomorrow - but their next game is against Chelski. Leiecester will go into their game with us knowing that a win will more than likely guarantee them the title (on the assumption that Chelski can take at least a point against Spurs) .

Add to that the fact that we will go into the game with West Ham either level on points (if we lose to Leiecester) or within 3 points of them (with an inferior goal difference) - and I expect they too will be well up for the game and fancy their chances when it comes to the Europa League spot. It's also their last ever game at Upton Park which they will want to win.

3.) 24 Apr 2016 20:05:42
I think not ken. If Spurs tie tomorrow they will be 7 pts behind with 3 games left. If LC beat us they will be uncatchable. Its hard to see Spurs not winning tomorrow given the meaningless of the match from a WBA standpoint and the way they played against Arsenal.

4.) 24 Apr 2016 20:13:03
I want Leicester to win it but I want to give them a beating next week.

5.) 24 Apr 2016 20:13:32
Leicester winning will leave them on 79 points. As it stands Spurs can reach a maximum of 80 provided they win their remaining four games. If they draw with West Brom this week then the max they can reach is 78, so Leicester will win. Personally hoping Spurs drop some points against Chelsea and Leicester manage to do it against Everton the week after and don't scupper our chances at top 4.

6.) 24 Apr 2016 20:13:55
ken

spurs draw tomorrow - leicester 7 points ahead. 3 games remaining
leicester beat us- 10 points ahead with spurs having 3 games remaining.

7.) 24 Apr 2016 20:22:37
If spurs draw tomorrow and Leicester beat us then its all over as they will be 10 points clear with spurs having only 3 games left.

8.) 24 Apr 2016 20:35:05
Ken - How's that? Leiecester are currently 8 clear. If Spurs draw tomorrow they are 7 behind. If Leicester beat us they will be 10 ahead of Spurs with Spurs only having 3 games remaining.

9.) 24 Apr 2016 21:04:32
My mistake I thought they were only 7 points ahead.

10.) 24 Apr 2016 22:26:03
I can't see anything other than a Spurs win tomorrow but to be honest we need to concentrate more on our own results. Each of our final games this season is a cup final, we need to win them all and let the other teams take each other out.

11.) 25 Apr 2016 09:53:57
Ken you silly billy.

12.) 25 Apr 2016 16:41:52
I think Spurs will thrash WBA tonight and we will beat Leicester. The question is will spurs close the gap to 2 points or 4 points. Chelsea at best maybe get a draw but I think spurs will beat them. This chelsea team is just not very good in the big games against top opposition.

The most interesting game of next week as far as i am concerned is city away to southampton. we need a big favour :)

My last post was incomplete. Fat fingers. Sorry!

I just hope that the foundations are being laid for the next man. If you stay in the Top 4 and add more youth to the squad hopefully that will be the case.

However, clearly references to hope are not good and we should be aiming higher.

Lastly, I'd just like to add that watching Rooney appear so far behind his previous standard is a stark reminder that everything that goes up must come down. I'm of the age where the Giggs and Scholes generation are a few years older than me but I have a fee years on Rooney. So watching his dip just makes me feel old!

Peace out x.

Win, lose or draw, excite or bore. We all love United. I am a positive person and in my head if we're boring to watch at least moaning about it is something to distract from the everyday problems life brings us.

I tend to agree that this stems from the manager but I also sympathise with LVG and think we're simply not good enough in the final third. I can't help but wonder if we'd be more open with our style if LVG was confident we could outscore the opposition? Yes, he has to take the blame and the buck stops with him because ADM wasn't the answer, Falcao didn't work out, Depay has struggled to make an impact, etc.

Memphis signed for a big fee off of the back of a half decent World Cup and has had plenty of games to make an impression. The expectations were a bit lower for Zaha but I get what you mean.

Hopefully Memphis will start to kick on next season.

And hopefully Zaha doesn't make us regret letting him go when we meet at Wembley!

Chiswick "you're" crazy if you think United would settle for someone who isn't even the best manager in North London, let alone all of London.

Like I said, this is what I've heard and I am sceptical myself. I suspect Chelsea fans would be just as annoyed to see Jose in the Spurs dugout as they would the United dugout so it's win win really.

Angelred, do you not think the likes of Mahrez, Kante and Vardy won't get their heads turned by being able to double their wages by moving on? They've recruited well on a budget and deserve to be where they are, but recruiting well on a budget is not a sustainable long term model. I'd guess they'll lose a key player or two and with (deserved) European football will be mid table next year. Happy to be proved wrong and would hold my hands up if so, but also tbh won't remember who disagreed with me this year to come back and say I told you so should I be right anyway.

Leicester have had a great season but I can see them returning to average next season. European football will test their squad depth and they have the threat of the possible departure of some of the star performers that propelled them there in the first place. The likes of Mahrez, Kante and Vardy will be on the radar of the clubs that pay higher wages and we all know money talks.

As for Kasper, for me he's a decent keeper but I'd fear he's not at the level to match the huge weight of expectation that would be magnified because of his surname.

Butland would be my preference but in all honesty whoever we signed out of realistic targets it'd be a step down from DDG imo.

Lots of interesting debate on the Luke Shaw comments. Tony V didn't get away free from criticism in the very same interview yet that hardly got a mention in the media let alone the big fuss the LS comments have attracted, and Tony is our team captain!

I thought LS looked like he had taken previous criticism on board and was starting to mature a bit when he had a run of games a couple of months ago, but seems he has regressed again. Who knows what goes on behind closed doors but perhaps Jose is trying the same tactics again (he has form for using the same tactics! ), perhaps he's sending a message to the rest of the squad, or perhaps he's simply run out of patience with the lad.

My personal view is that the public nature of the criticism is a little odd, but the comments have been magnified by the media more than necessary.

The bullying debate is interesting and I see both sides. It can't be nice for the Shaw family to read and I feel for them mostly, but it comes with the territory and criticism can comes from current/ former/ rival managers/ players, pundits, fans, etc. I'd happily take a few public bashings from Jose for ~£100k a week without having to put in too much effort to earn it. In fact, I'd even write the scripts for the bashings myself!

Lastly, I don't get the thought process of some that says give LS game time to hike his sale price. We are Manchester United, if he's not good enough or committed enough to be at the club then he shouldn't be wearing the shirt ahead of someone who is; appearing for United is a privilege that should not be devalued. I'm not the biggest fan of Ashley Young at left-back, but he's been better than LS this season, and it would be criminal for him to be denied the chance to cement a place in the England World Cup squad to put LS in the shop-window.

FZZ, isn't the point about the media that we are bigger news than City and journalists like to sensationalise to create headlines? Maybe, maybe not.

I couldn't care less about other clubs or how much of their money they spend, but am perfectly capable of looking objectively at how any new signings will impact the chances of our rivals.

My main point is the "The media are conveniently rounding our spending up and City's down and trying to make us look bad but Pep can't do anything without spending money, etc, etc. " brigade come across as very he said she said. Who cares what the media says!?

And as for the source of their funds, that's an entirely different debate and not one I'm entering. But I will say this, no billionaire is as clean as a whistle.

Wouldn't we all rather engage about United rumours/ banter?

Greedy ;-)

I got slated for suggesting Mahrez in the summer but still maintain he'd hit another level with us or any of the other "Top 6" clubs, the latter looking more likely though as with his return to form I can see either Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs or Chelsea trying to sign him.
