A while back I posted a link waxing lyrical about a young talent in Australia called Nestory Irankunda and to keep an eye out. Bayern Munich swept him up and he heads to Europe in a few weeks after the A League season.

But before he goes he will be representing the A League all stars against Newcastle United. Now he may well be outclassed at this early stage but hopefully he can put in a good showing.

This kid has it all. Size, speed, skill and arrogance.

We have Crystal Palace coming up away. I just sat and watched Palace V West Ham. Eze and Olise will tear our slow defence apart if they are allowed to get past the defensive midfield. Only one game I know but jeez Eze looks good.

They also concede goals for fun, 28 in the last 16 games.

2.) 24 Apr 2024 08:56:24
The new manager has definitely instilled something in them already. They were rampant.

3.) 24 Apr 2024 14:06:41
And we have conceded nothing?

Hey Ahmad.

What a game for your lads first at OT!

1.) 18 Mar 2024 11:02:06
Incredible experience and told him its a once every 25 years type game. He lost his voice:)

First time seeing mainoo live very impressive and better live than what you see on TV. Dalot is an exceptional player imo, if he added more goals and more assists to his game he would be one of the best anywhere.

Good reslity check going to a game. Very different vibe to what gets posted here. The fans 98% all behind this manager and players. You get the odd one but asection of the stretford end guys who were waiting to go in together and almost camp outside with flags showing were singing erics army as they started to move towards the stadium. Pretty awesome to look at.

Had a few drinks on the train that was packed with united supporters and a few before the game:) Very very different vibe. Truth be told many thought we would lose and were pessimistic but nothing like the dislike for players or manager that gets posted here. None.

Will be back for both semi and hopefully finals at wembley and maybe arsenal game at OT.

2.) 18 Mar 2024 11:47:32
I don't think there is any doubt that Dalot is decent going forward and he is improving all the time.
It's his defending at times which is terrible, that's what he needs the mostly work on.

3.) 18 Mar 2024 12:36:17
Dalot's defending is not terrible at all. He is excellent in fact. He does have a slight weakness on the back post on some crosses, but his all around play, both attacking and defending are very strong these days. He is close to our player of the season this year.

4.) 18 Mar 2024 16:25:50
Dalot has been very good recently.

He's one of the players who can hold his head up this season and say that he gave it everything. I've said this before that I think he's become steady, and I mean that as a compliment. You know what you're going to get from him. As Ahmad says, a few goals and assists will make a big difference.

5.) 18 Mar 2024 18:09:22
Glad you enjoyed the game Ahmad, and what a game to go to! Also great to read about where a lot of the fans heads are at, rather some of the usual negativity from pundits and online fans.

Agree with you and Wazza re Dalot. Definitely in our best defenders list with Licha, Varane and Shaw.

6.) 18 Mar 2024 21:45:53
Dalot has done well of late and his confidence is clearly high. However, he has a mistake or two in him and does not appear to be a natural defender.

7.) 18 Mar 2024 22:00:26
I'm still to be convinced by Dalot, but no doubt he's improved a lot. What I will say for him, is he 'gets' United.

8.) 18 Mar 2024 22:35:34
Can’t say I’ve been a big fan of dalot over the years, but this season I see big improvements and since the turn of the year he’s been excellent.

All the attributes you want, just needs to polish his game and he will be a very good player.

9.) 19 Mar 2024 00:11:41
He has really tried and definitely improved but I can never see him being a top top defender. He still is drawn out of position too often and doesn't spot danger instinctively. Awb is a better defender but Dalot contributes much more in attack.

10.) 19 Mar 2024 01:33:45
Dalot is technically excellent. Has pace and he defended liverpool breakaways unbelievably well when we looked in trouble. Engine that never stopped watched him go up and down the pitch all game. In extra time he had nunez one on one and never gave him anything. For me its our player of the season given his minutes and performances.

If we had a better midfield he would look even better and can stay high up the pitch. We have seen glimses of his crossing and i think he has a lot more assists in him.

Mainoo is some player i have to admit and no idea what his ceiling will be. If szoboslai is worth 69 mill, this kid double that and not kidding.

i like bruno but he is defensively a liability and far too easy to get past him and would do better if he just sat in pockets and was more patient defensively or offensively, But not going to participate in hate or toxic stuff about our captain. Bruno is a difficult one and divides opinions.

11.) 19 Mar 2024 12:49:14
Dalot has been steady and that is a compliment I agree.
One of our more consistent players this year and personally in my top 3 or 4 players this session for us along with mainoo garnacho and rasmus.
I don't think he is a top class right back at the moment. But has become a steady Eddie.
Would perhaps do better with better players around him.
His partnership with garnacho on the right is developing to a degree but for me a lot of his supporting runs are I'll timed, inconsistent and too often we end up with a poor cross or final ball. That's been evident for 2 years so better coaching required imo.

Pogba banned for 4 years.

Wouldn't have needed much doping. He was most of the way to being a dope anyway.

Wouldn't have needed much to enhance his performance either! A wine gum would have sufficed.

A waste of what was once a great talent.

KeefyT143

1.) 29 Feb 2024 16:10:51
Apparently he was DABbing a lot.

2.) 29 Feb 2024 16:30:05
Nothing will change my mind that he is the worse signing in the club's history.

Leaving on a free.
Bought back for an eye-watering fee.
Paid eye-watering wages.
Poor performance after poor performance.
Leaving on a free. Again.

He is the hero product of the post-Fergie era.

3.) 29 Feb 2024 16:54:01
I'd need to see some evidence of him taking performance enhancing drugs in the last few years.

4.) 29 Feb 2024 17:13:38
Nou, that's a great point and I think it will make a sound defence ?.

5.) 29 Feb 2024 19:01:24
Sad way for his career to end. So much wasted potential, had everything needed to be the best midfielder in the world, but just didn’t have the drive or desire.

6.) 29 Feb 2024 19:33:52
Career-ending? Don't fret, I'm sure we'll be in for the hat-trick in 4 years unless things improve!

7.) 29 Feb 2024 19:54:03
Maybe he play in Gerard Pique's league.

8.) 29 Feb 2024 19:58:28
He won't be too bothered.
4 years is a heavy ban.
Pep only got 4 months all those years ago for steroids in his system.

9.) 29 Feb 2024 22:43:23
He played like he was stoned. Now I understand.

Can we all come to a gentlemen’s agreement to stop harping on and on about the injury list.

Apart from the fact it varies from 6 -13 and in the most part is yet another misleading stat given a lot of those would not be getting a senior game, it’s becoming quite boring and causing some frankly ridiculous and pointless arguments between fellow Reds

It is what it is. We all agree that the team and indeed the squad would potentially be considerably stronger if they were available there is little or nothing ETH can do about it. I say potentially as we do not know how these players would perform in the apparently toxic arena.

I don’t think any realistic person can expect us to go out and beat most teams in this current state. We struggled early season with an almost full squad so ETH is currently on a hiding to nothing.

I think what we collectively want is a team that goes out and comes off that park with nothing left to give. The results will hopefully come when the injury table has done its work. Who knows, we may find a real gem in the youth teams!

That is something that ETH can 100% influence and justify his frankly confusing views on the team performances.

Surely can’t ask much more than that can we?

Keefy

I think Martinez, Cas, Ericksen, Mount are a big miss. Mount has never really gotten started with two injuries and a few games in between.

Cas was a late arrival before the season started as the people who were involved in internationals were given later reporting dates. He was not fit imo played got injured played again and injured properly. still think he is class if he comes back fully fit.

Martinez played two games did not look right and now we know.

Shaw and maguire are shoe in starters atm and that's 5 or out your starters out. Bruno suspended sancho the twat suspended although he does not strike me as type of character for anfield so however you look at it there are 6 to 8 guys who could be potential starters in this game.

Even Lindelof would start ahead of evans given maguire is gone so we are scrapping the bottom of the barrel here. Worse place to go to play even with a fully fit squad.

Hope Rashford is fit. him and Dennis law are our all time leading scorers vs Liverpool believe it or not and he scores in big games whether you like him or not.

Mainoo is carrying some sort of a minor injury to his knee and that's why they are hesitant to play him a full game was reported. If true, I would prefer we don't play him and would be travesty if he played and got a knee injury, which basically means season gone for him between ankle and knee injury.

We will find out later today what the damage and hope the press ask some relevant questions.

2.) 15 Dec 2023 09:58:56
I think an extensive imjury report was probably the opposite response required :D
I think all clubs particularly those in Europe have issues including this weekend's opponents. How the manager deals with these and inspires his team in this period will be crucial for him one feels. Some of the solutions have seemed strange but I don't profess to knowing more than a professional manager.

3.) 15 Dec 2023 10:38:31
Ahmad - personally i don't think Mount offers anything.
Before we bought him he was awful for Chelsea for 18 months and was constantly injured.
I wouldn't have touched him, their were so many better midfielders about at the time for 60 million.

4.) 15 Dec 2023 10:54:46
I think that would be a fair agreement as long as people agree to also stop complaining about the performances and asking why we are seeing poor performances.

The fact of the matter is simple, we are playing poorly by and large because we have so many key players out injured.

It's not just the number of players out at any one time. It's who is out, how important they are to the side, how long are they out, the combinations of who is out.

Players need consistency in team selection to produce consistency in performance.

Likewise, if a new manager is missing the majority of the players he has signed to play his style of play it will be almost impossible for him to play that style.

Also depending on who is out injured plays a big part. For example the team with 4 injuries could be far worse off than the team with 7 injuries if the four injured players are all the CB's in the squad.

For us this season it has been all of the above, we have had more injuries than any other side in the league. On top of that we have suffered the worse from those injuries in defence, losing key players and forcing a constant chopping and changing in the area of the team that needs the most consistency. On top of that the players we have lost are both key to how we play, and players the manager has brought in to allow him to play his style of play.

When Ole was sacked we all said that we couldn't play good football when we had AWB, Lindelof, Maguire and McTominay and Fred as key components of our first 11.

We agreed that they needed replacing and nothing would improve until they were.

Now due to injuries those players are starting again most weeks and those same fans are complaining and scratching their head as to why the football is no better.

Players like Martinez, Casemiro and Eriksen brought in to add quality, quality that we saw last season, are not available.

Those players are also key players as they form the base of the side, the foundations upon which everything else is built. You can't destroy the foundations of the house then seriously wonder why the rest of the house collapsed.

Even players the manager has signed this summer to help build in last season have all bar Onana suffered with injuries and missed large parts of the season. Which obviously makes it even harder for them to adapt to the side.

100% if we had our best players fit and on form this season we would be at least 10 points better off and would currently be sitting joint top with Liverpool in a title race (one that we would be unlikely to win, but up there all the same) .

So you cannot possibly say the injuries are irrelevant, they are the single biggest contributor to our poor form this season.

So if you want people to stop talking about them then you're going to have to stop talking about the performances/ results. Only fair as part of a gentleman's agreement.

5.) 15 Dec 2023 11:02:19
Are we allowed to talk about the suspension list and how it includes our captain who was booked for moaning at the ref in the 85th minute knowing that it would rule him out of this crucial match?

6.) 15 Dec 2023 13:19:27
Keefy why would you want to stop talking about the injury list?
How about people stop moaning and crying and whingeing worse than our captain does.

7.) 15 Dec 2023 13:40:17
Sim, That's not true. He was a key player for Chelsea right up until about 6 months before we signed him when a combination of an injury and a reluctance from Chelsea to play a player who was refusing to sign a new deal took him out of the team.

While not entirely down to Mount Chelsea's form did decline when he was out of the side.

I think Mount will prove to be a very good player for us, but I feel that we need to adjust the tactics ever so slightly to not only get the best from him but for the team as a whole.

Mount can do a job as one of the double pivot, but plays best in the final third, he's a hard working and tactically intelligent player who can work as a facilitator of play in the final third. He presses intelligently, runs himself ragged and has the tactical know how to know which positions to drop into and when to help circulate the ball and manoeuvrer the opposition to create space.

8.) 15 Dec 2023 14:47:44
From the point Mount joined Chelsea to the point he left he was 1st in the following areas:

Appearances, Starts, Minutes Played, Goals, Assists, Chances Created.

He had a bad year not helped by injury, and has struggled with the same since joining. Fully fit it would be naïve to say he offers nothing.

9.) 15 Dec 2023 14:43:11
Mount cannot play pivot.

10.) 15 Dec 2023 14:43:22
Shappy - everything i said is true.
He has been terrible for 2 season now, it a fact!

11.) 15 Dec 2023 17:53:16
If you stop whinging about results, eth, certain players, the colour of the sky, that red is blue and black is green, sure Keefy I'll agree to not mention the injury list.

12.) 15 Dec 2023 18:16:55
Sim, you are frankly talking out of your posterior.

Last season 22/ 23 - He was restricted by injury and towards the end for political reasons, with him being given limited minutes due to him not signing a new deal.

When he played he was still one of their best players and him missing the early part of the season was considered a big reason for their poor start to the season.

In the 21/ 22 season he was their top goal scorer in the league. While he managed 12 goals and 13 assists across all competitions.

He was named Chelsea's player of the year for both 2021 and for a second time in 2022.

He also played a key role in them winning the UCL in 2021.

So quite frankly you are talking nonsense when you say he's been "terrible for 2 seasons now".

When fit and playing he was arguably Chelsea's best player, certainly their most important. This was recognised by both the fans and the club with them naming him their back to back player of the season.

He's since had one injury hit season, and was in and out of the side due to him not signing a new deal with the club. He's come to us and been injured for most of the time. When he played he was decent, not great, not terrible.

If he can get back to full fitness I suspect he'll make you eat your words.

13.) 15 Dec 2023 18:22:20
Simo

He was chelsea player of the year in 2020/ 2021 and 2021/ 2022. His injuries started in first half of 2022/ 2023 season and in 2023 calendar year he has played a total of 600 minutes. That's around 7 games so not a fair statement to say he is terrible.

14.) 15 Dec 2023 19:48:03
Love it Jimbobred. Putting words in mouths is half the problem. Funny how its the same old antagonists on here who pick an opposite argument every time.

If I gave some people on this forum a million pounds it would be the wrong colour!

15.) 16 Dec 2023 11:14:11
Shappy et al.

I agree with everything you guys say. I have never said the injuries are irrelevant. Nothing could be further from the truth.

My point was more that we cannot do anything about the injuries. That’s a fixed issue at this time.

As I have said a hundred times, NOBODY with half a brain can expect us to play to the desired level with the injuries we have. But sadly ETH can do nothing about that at all. In that respect he is on a hiding to nothing. But he can influence attitude and effort.

Of course the team would be far more balanced and productive if we had the players available. We have, essentially, an entire first team (on paper) on the treatment table.

But we can expect a better showing of desire and effort from many players. Ironically my best mate Maguire is the one doing just that so I cannot even single him out! Ha Ha!

I do not actually care too much about the results. Of course I would love to win week in week out but any realist cannot expect much with the players available

As I have also said many times, even though he is frustrating out of me with his tactics and comments, I want ETH to succeed. I do not want another merry go round. At the very least when we have some longevity in the manager and he has time to live or die by the sword then we have a quantified argument either way.

Yep Spenno.

When I moved from one F1 team to another I was forced to sign a non disclosure agreement for IP.

But it wasn’t worth the paper it was written on. Was I suddenly going to forget how to design the electronic systems?

Same with Ashworth. They will call him and he will “suggest” options. As long as he doesn’t do the deal, then all good.

Devils advocate,

We keep ETH. Spend another season in the uninspiring doldrums. Dump him at Xmas, pay him out anyway and spend another year out of Europe, unable to attract players yet again.

Swings and roundabouts.

Whatever happens we need to provide service for our forwards rather than bemoaning their suitability. Pointless spending money on a striker and continuing to play the way we are!

We played against a weakened championship team. We had 11 players on the park everyone of which, on paper, is superior to the team we played and yet were shown the way with desire, passion, effort and belief.

How can 11 internationals not have the ability to outplay and out perform Coventry.

Don't give me this inconsistent selection claptrap. Against that opposition, regardless of the 11 on the park, they should be able to walk it and yet served that rubbish up yet again.

I was firmly on the give ETH a go bus but have long since come to the conclusion that he is out of his depth. The tactical lack of sense and the rubbish he speaks in his conferences is evidence enough that he cannot and will not cut it at United or indeed any top UK teams.

We cannot afford to keep sacking managers. Hell I’d be the first to shout that from the rooftops but we cannot go forward with this one at the helm or we will be royally screwed for his tenure and another 5 years from that.

What self respecting, established player is going to want to join this mess? Unlikely to get to Europe this year. Unlikely next year with the cattle we have.

Train wreck at the moment. Hard to watch and read about.

Having said that. I am coming over to UK for Mum's funeral and will be at OT on Weds shouting myself raw for the club!
